Especially for cakes and pastries.

But they don't do a festive bake though [santa] Grin .

Ebonyandivory2 · 22/11/2019 12:09

Absolutely

Poppyfr33 · 22/11/2019 12:10

Love Lidl bakery, and all cheaper. Greggs lost me when they stopped being a bakery selling bread and rolls.

Stupiddriver1 · 22/11/2019 12:11

Had a fab chocolate orange muffin from Lidl yesterday.

WitchesGlove · 22/11/2019 12:11

Customer service is Lidl is awful, and you queue for ages to pay....

Biggobyboo · 22/11/2019 12:14

The local Lidl often has tiny fruit flies buzzing around the open bakery. I wonder how sanitary the baked goods are and how many dirty hands have touched them.

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 22/11/2019 12:14

But a Greggs sausage roll is to die for......

Sparklesocks · 22/11/2019 12:14

Love lidl cakes but Greggs does the superior sausage roll in my experience

Venger · 22/11/2019 12:16

Greggs lost me when they stopped being a bakery selling bread and rolls.

Gregg's have always done more than just bread and rolls, or least they always have done since as far back as I can remember and I'm almost 40. When I was little and in town with my mum she would buy me a cheese and onion pasty for my lunch and she would have a tuna half-stottie.

BigFatLiar · 22/11/2019 12:16

Local Lidls has pizza slices, belgian buns and doughnuts, thats about it from them, not exactly a massive selection.

GrumpyHoonMain · 22/11/2019 12:17

Greggs (and for that matter Waitrose) don’t allow kids to lick the bread rolls before putting them back in. Sad

ELM8 · 22/11/2019 12:18

The hygiene factor puts me off with the Lidl bakery.. might look nicer but you don't know who has touched (or worse) what you're buying. Grim.

TheHootiestOwl · 22/11/2019 12:20

But but people or children put their grubby hands on the Lidl bakery food and then put it back.... I just can’t do it.

You can’t beat a Greggs sausage roll though, or chicken bake.

Theimpossiblegirl · 22/11/2019 12:20

I'm sure they're ok about it. I love Gregg's. Their coffee is nice too.

inwood · 22/11/2019 12:23

Nope. Way too many people breathing on and touching stuff in Lidl.

tabulahrasa · 22/11/2019 12:24

“Gregg's have always done more than just bread and rolls,”

They don’t do bread or rolls at all though, well not round here anyway.

inwood · 22/11/2019 12:24

And I can buy a steak bake frozen in Iceland and have no contamination at all. I only found this out last weekend.

Venger · 22/11/2019 12:28

Shock

What?

Shock

They do here (NE England, home of Greggs). They do stotties, many different types of bread roll, and fresh cut loaves.

Venger · 22/11/2019 12:28

Also scones, cakes, doughnuts, cookies, etc.

WaningGibbous · 22/11/2019 12:29

"Hands down" is exactly how to describe Lidl though, someone's always got their hands in the bakery.

tabulahrasa · 22/11/2019 12:45

“They do here (NE England, home of Greggs). They do stotties, many different types of bread roll, and fresh cut loaves.”

They used to here, they definitely did... (central belt of Scotland) but nope, it’s only the ready to eat stuff and cakes, no bread, no rolls Sad

Womenwotlunch · 22/11/2019 12:47

Totally agree
I blame Lidl for my five pounds weight gain,
I am forever eating their croissants and chocolate chip cookies

HairyFloppins · 22/11/2019 12:55

I think Greggs is better. The hygiene aspect always puts me off. I always try and pick the stuff at the back. I had a chocolate orange muffin the other and was quite disappointed by it. The cheese twists and pain au chocolate are my favourites.

ChicCroissant · 22/11/2019 12:56

No bread or rolls to purchase here in the SW either in any of our Greggs - I also love their sausage rolls, chicken bake and their coffee is really nice. Wonder if it is a regional thing (selling bread products).

Lidl croissants are gorgeous and enormous! DD loved their crusty bread rolls too. We have a large, modern Lidl which has self-scan - brilliant!

InsertFunnyUsername · 22/11/2019 12:56

YANBU. Always buy the cookies and croissants. Even better if you catch them while they're being put on display.
