To think that the Lidl Bakery beats Greggs hands down

Especially for cakes and pastries.

I love the lidl bakery and would pick them for bread and sweet pastries etc. over Greggs.

BUT a Gregg's sausage roll or sausage, cheese&Bean slice? unbeatable.

Sceptre86 · 22/11/2019 15:17

Lidl baked goods are yummy but I have seen people use their hands rather than a scoop to pick up items. Considering so many people don't wash their hands after a pee this grosses me out. Gregg's has always as far as I have been aware stock rolls.

soupforbrains · 22/11/2019 15:18

What is this Cooplands of which you speak?

HollowTalk · 22/11/2019 15:21

I always wonder how often those tongs are washed. And they're put back into a little tube thing which would be impossible to wash.

They do really nice cakes too and they make sandwiches to order.

Gregg's have regional items on their menus which might be why some don't stock bread and rolls if there isn't the demand for them locally. You can only get stotties in North East England branches and I'm sure some of the cakes and biscuits are regional too.

Bread offerings are very limited to buy in Greggs , like why can’t I buy those seeded rolls they use for sandwiches ?

But until they stop doing a bacon sarnie and coffee for £2.30 I will be a loyal customer twice a week

QuestionableMouse · 22/11/2019 15:38

I got a huge chunk of sharp plastic in my lidl muffin. Cut my lip and mouth quite badly and put me right off their stuff.

MadisonAvenue · 22/11/2019 15:42

Our Lidl closed down several years ago and hadn’t long had the bakery before it did so.

We’ve recently had a Pound Bakery open though, right opposite Greggs, and I seem to keep finding myself in there.

Sh05 · 22/11/2019 15:48

Lidl bakery in ourlocal store looks yummy but I only buy if it's around lunchtime and they're restocking otherwise like others have said you don't know who's grubby hands have been on what

cornstarch · 22/11/2019 18:43

You are correct

OlaEliza · 22/11/2019 19:26

I miss Hibbard's 😔

CareOfPunts · 22/11/2019 19:28

I love the Lidl bakery, I’ve managed to not die or develop a dreadful lurgy from other people breathing on or touching the food.

Just had a cinnamon bun in fact

GreyGardens88 · 22/11/2019 19:31

Not really, in lidl its all out in the open and the clientele lidl attracts don't seem to care too much about hygiene

Miggymoggymugwumps · 22/11/2019 19:41

Lidl stuff night be good but after witnessing a man drop a roll on the floor and putting back, and also seeing a woman coughing all over the cakes I think I'll pass!!!!

I've seen that many times, and when I'm rarely at lidl on sunday at opening time everyone converges on the bakery like pigs round a trough

Lidl stuff looks dried up and the bread rolls etc may be cheaper but they're also a lot smaller. They do cakes?????? Never forgiven them for stopping doing chocolate twists though.
Thoroughly recommend the Aldi sourdough baguettes in a pack of two, also their packs of pain au chocolat.

Stupiddriver1 · 22/11/2019 19:50

Well I’ve just come down with a lurgy after yesterday’s Lidl muffin and bread roll. I’m now blaming Lidl! 😁

SnugglySnerd · 22/11/2019 19:50

Agreed!

Schwibble · 22/11/2019 19:51

The bakery section in my nearby Lidl is uncovered, as upthread posts, only ever eaten from there once and although delicious the hygiene aspect is questionable. Have seen wasps, flies and grubby fingers on the things there. So I'm sticking with Greggs.

HariboLecter · 22/11/2019 20:27

Cooplands > Gregg's!!

Lidl would be better if the bakery was covered. Somewhere abroad (I wish I remember where) had a vending machine type thing for the fresh bakery items- heaven!

HariboLecter · 22/11/2019 20:32

I also miss Bakers Oven Sad

brittabot · 22/11/2019 20:45

Maybe but Wenzels is best.
