Licking fingers after a meal

My SIL does this and it drives me mental. I realise I can't change it, according to my husband it's a habit of a lifetime for her, but wondered if anyone else was annoyed by this sort of thing?

After eating with a knife and fork? That would be strange.
If she’s been tucking into somE KFC with her hands, then it’s quite normal.

Sparklingbrook · 17/11/2019 22:43

Ewww no, that's what napkins are for.

Havaina · 17/11/2019 22:45

I eat with my hands quite happily but I agree licking fingers is a bit boke, because the saliva dries Envy
It would be rude to say anything though.

MsChatterbox · 17/11/2019 22:47

What about after a packet of Crisps?

Sparklingbrook · 17/11/2019 22:56

If you lick your fingers after eating a packet of crisps what do you then dry them on?

justilou1 · 17/11/2019 23:18

My husband does this and it honestly makes me stabby... I have asked him repeatedly to desist, but he won’t respect this. I am going to start making loud gagging noises from now on.

Elbowedout · 17/11/2019 23:21

I am with you OP. It is a disgusting habit and I develop a combination of nausea and violent tendencies if I see someone doing it.

KimchiLaLa · 18/11/2019 21:04

Yes after eating with a knife and fork. It's any food left on her hands. She just licks it off, one by one.

My husband does this after eating crisps. It gives me the rage Angry

Vulpine · 18/11/2019 21:22

Id be more bothered by people sticking fingers in their nose

Sciurus83 · 18/11/2019 21:23

YANBU it's vile

TildaKauskumholm · 18/11/2019 21:27

Yes, makes me heave.

LonginesPrime · 18/11/2019 21:34

How is food getting on her hands if she's eating with a knife and fork though?

KimchiLaLa · 19/11/2019 23:15

Just if she picks something up, tears it apart, garlic bread, pizza, roast chicken, etc.

I just think it would be better to dry your hands with a napkin then wash them after your meal.

I can't stand seeing/hearing people lick or suck their fingers whilst eating. It's fucking disgusting and a really bad lack of table manners.

That said, I also can't stand the sight or sound of people chewing with their mouths open (that wet, sloppy sound!). I know some people hate the crunching of crisps which doesn't bother me. And I don't care if it's food or gum, close your mouth! Well aware I have Misophonia, though, so these types of things give me the rage anyway!

I physically have to move away from people guilty of such offenses, and would get up and walk away from the table of anyone eating with bad manners.

Munkers · 20/11/2019 00:18

Cor you all sound like fun. Leave her alone, it’s not like she’s licking your fingers jeez can’t see how it should affect you

Sparklingbrook · 20/11/2019 05:24

Cor, there’s such a thing as manners! Other people’s manners do affect you unfortunately as you have to watch it.

EleanorShellstrop100 · 20/11/2019 05:29

Hahahahahahahahahaha I love posts like this! Only on Mumsnet would someone be annoyed by someone licking a bit of sauce off their finger after a slice of pizza and then find lots of other people agreeing with them 😂

Sparklingbrook · 20/11/2019 05:33

Did you miss the ‘one by one’ bit?

Oblomov19 · 20/11/2019 05:42

I do it all the time. Didn't realise it was a 'thang'.

JellyBook · 20/11/2019 05:48

My mother does this, makes me question if I was adopted.

She’ll also lick her finger & thumb when preparing or clearing away food, eg after she puts the lid back on the butter, or catches a bit of food on the plate she’s picked up.

I never eat much round her house.

Biancadelrioisback · 20/11/2019 05:53

My son licks all 4 fingers at once. He's only 2 though but I'm desperate to get him to stop

Sibello · 20/11/2019 05:59

It's quite yucky.

Cambionome · 20/11/2019 06:28

It's disgusting. Also people who lick their knives after eating... Angry

Branflakesagain · 20/11/2019 06:34

That’s disgusting. That would give me the rage
