Licking fingers after a meal

My SIL does this and it drives me mental. I realise I can't change it, according to my husband it's a habit of a lifetime for her, but wondered if anyone else was annoyed by this sort of thing?

This wouldnt really bother me that much but if it bothers you maybe go somewhere or serve foods which don't need to be eaten with your hands. So dont go to a pizza place or nando's. The majority of food is eaten with a knife and fork entirely.

Minging 🤮 Why can’t she just use a piece of kitchen roll like the rest of the civilised people 😂

Sparklingbrook · 21/11/2019 06:50

I hope the plate lickers only do that in their own home. ☹️

DBML · 21/11/2019 07:20

@PapayaCoconut

Lol - autocorrect. It was meant to say chocolatey

PenelopeFlintstone · 21/11/2019 08:35

Can I just ask?
When I say licking, I mean sort of sucking my fingertips.
Is that what you all mean? Or is there some grosser kind of licking, like actual licking with a visible tongue?!
Sorry for creating that visual for you.Grin

I'm not a finger licker generally but I don't have too much of an issue with other people doing it so long as they do it SILENTLY.(And obviously only at home, never in public) There's absolutely no need to make that sort of kissing noise at the end of each lick Angry

I can say hand on heart that I've never licked my fingers after kfc - I use kitchen roll.

Ideal Christmas gift for the finger lickers

When I eat the coop Chardonnay vinegar crisps I save all the favour on my fingers till I’ve finished and slurp it all off. It’s the best part of the experience!

Sparklingbrook · 21/11/2019 08:59

Oh yuck Mustard that image has put me right off my Coco Pops. Bleurgh.

MustardScreams · 21/11/2019 09:07

😂😂😂

Sparklingbrook · 21/11/2019 09:10

I bet your glass is covered in greasy fingerprints too.Sad

MustardScreams · 21/11/2019 09:12

Sorry @Sparklingbrook, promise I only do it at home though!

UnalignedAnt · 21/11/2019 09:44

Like middle class bingo this. It's 'common'. HOUSE!

GimmeBread · 21/11/2019 10:05

I remember back in the day when chippy chips were cooked in fat. Buying a poke of chips in the winter, the fat from the chips would solidify in your fingers and you scraped all that salty fat off your fingers at the end. That was the best part!

OlaEliza · 21/11/2019 11:06

What about sucking all the orange off your fingers when you eaten wotsits??

Vulpine · 21/11/2019 11:34

So generally the rule of mumsnet is no fingers in ones mouth ever in public?

PenelopeFlintstone · 21/11/2019 11:36

Great question, OlaEliza!

smalalalalalala · 21/11/2019 11:56

Went for dinner to my uncle's latest partner. She liked her fingers after plating the food.

We were stunned. She offered to cater for my coming wedding (?), thanks but no thanks.

Since then, when we mention her in the convo, we 'lick' our fingers.

SherleenDionne · 04/05/2021 22:25

It drives me crazy, especially when people lick all 5 fingers and put almost their whole finger into their mouth Envy
