Licking fingers after a meal

KimchiLaLa · 17/11/2019 22:36

My SIL does this and it drives me mental. I realise I can't change it, according to my husband it's a habit of a lifetime for her, but wondered if anyone else was annoyed by this sort of thing?

The worst is when you are sharing crisps with someone and they eat some, lick their fingers, and then go back to the (shared) bowl for more Sad No more crisps for me thanks...

SirHumphreyDrinkalot · 20/11/2019 06:49

I have found my tribe!!!!!!!

fromnowhere · 20/11/2019 07:50

Sorry I have to chime in to say it's foul. My friends does this and it's so annoying it makes me want to cry (perhaps another misophonia sufferer here though).

BillHadersNewWife · 20/11/2019 07:54

My DH's Aunt licks the spoon from communal bowls...say she's serving from a bowl of potato salad at a buffet....well she serves some, then licks the spoon, then puts it back in the bowl. Angry

Orchardgreen · 20/11/2019 08:00

My mother ate with her mouth open. I couldn’t stand it.

Ugh.. rank

Allthecheesecake · 20/11/2019 09:08

"Hahahahahahahahahaha I love posts like this! Only on Mumsnet would someone be annoyed by someone licking a bit of sauce off their finger after a slice of pizza and then find lots of other people agreeing with them 😂"

Allthecheesecake · 20/11/2019 09:11

Quote fail!

But this "Hahahahahahahahahaha I love posts like this! Only on Mumsnet would someone be annoyed by someone licking a bit of sauce off their finger after a slice of pizza and then find lots of other people agreeing with them 😂"

Perhaps because more often than not people find it bad manners? That's what tissues are for. There's no need to tongue your fingers clean like an animal at the dinner table. Horrid thing to watch.

I find this so disgusting. A friend of mine does it so reliably at every meal I don’t go out for dinner with her anymore, and if we are all sat around eating at someone’s house I have to position myself a few seats away cos I know as soon as her fingers find her mouth I’ll feel sick and be put off the food. I don’t understand why people think it’s a normal thing to do tbh. Worst is when the entire finger goes in for a suck. And the noises 😭

Echo PP, only real solution is every time it happens hand a napkin and say brightly ‘there’s a sink through there if you need to use it!’, hopefully will shame her into stopping or at least make her aware it’s not a normal thing to do in someone else’s company.

And no one says a word? Confused

Pinkblueberry · 20/11/2019 10:11

If she’s been tucking into somE KFC with her hands, then it’s quite normal.

No it’s gross. Just wipe your hands. Their ‘it’s finger lickin good’ slogan really makes me cringe and the image completely puts me off food - it definitely doesn’t put me in the mood for a KFC, quite the opposite.

Sparklingbrook · 20/11/2019 10:12

Don't KFC provide those little lemony handwipes any more?

Munkers · 20/11/2019 10:15

I don’t see what the problem is as long as they wash their hands before after eating. If you are getting worked up over something so petty I don’t know how you will handle the bigger things that actually matter.

Sparklingbrook · 20/11/2019 11:30

I think manners matter. It's not the before eating that bothers me. Where are they putting their wet greasy fingers afterwards!

I assume all the posters saying it's ok are finger lickers themselves. Eww.

Blingismything · 20/11/2019 12:53

It enrages and disgusts me.

Monkeynuts18 · 20/11/2019 14:16

My DH - wait for it - will pick up and lick the PLATE.

Vulpine · 20/11/2019 14:21

Im not a finger licker but have no problem with it. I like some one with a good appetite. And what if the food is finger lickin good? Wink

Thestrangestthing · 20/11/2019 14:26

I watched my mum use her finger to wipe her plate clean and lick it of her finger for a good solid 3 minutes the other night. Made me feel physically sick and in my head I was screaming 'for God sake there's nothing left, stop!'

EmmiJay · 20/11/2019 14:41

Ew. I bet they never wash their hands after using the loo or touching their shoes or something before licking their fingers either. Blehhhhh!

GimmeBread · 20/11/2019 15:24

@Munkers 😂😂

OlaEliza · 20/11/2019 16:02

I don't think there's anything wrong with licking the plate IF YOU ARE AT HOME, WITH NO COMPANY ROUND. I've done it before 🤷

EsselGruntFuttock · 20/11/2019 16:30

It’s not a habit though is it? She could easily stop doing it. I wouldn’t sit at a table with anyone that did this, it’s disgusting.

rainbowlou · 20/11/2019 16:54

We went to a friend’s party And she had made scones for dessert.
Her sister proceeded to ask who wanted one so she could dish them out but between putting jam/cream on she was wiping the knife with her finger and licking it off.
Everyone outside of the family declined but the rest of them didn’t seem to mind 🤮
