To insist that exH rectify this?

Exh has our dd every other weekend. She is almost 8 and very well behaved. She came home after a visit and used the word 'crap' to say that something was rubbish. Apparently she had heard ex H's teenage stepson using this word. AIBU to message him asking that he make sure this never happens again?

Get a grip

TheReluctantCountess · 17/11/2019 17:43

Yabu. If you don’t like it, tell her not to say it. I’m sure she hears much worse elsewhere.

MsRomanoff · 17/11/2019 17:44

Really?

FudgeBrownie2019 · 17/11/2019 17:44

YABU to the point where I doubt this is even true

Scuzzymummy · 17/11/2019 17:44

If that's the worst she hears at 8 then you are doing pretty well! Don't pick a fight for the sake of it. Just tell her it's not a word you like or would want to hear her saying and that some people will use words that she might not understand or know if it's ok to use.

OhWellThatsJustGreat · 17/11/2019 17:44

Could you just explain to your dad that crap is not a word used in your house? Unfortunately her step brothers language is beyond your control, I doubt your ex would be able to stop him using crap even if he asked.

AmIScary · 17/11/2019 17:44

Yes,message him. You won't sound daft at all.

wishywashy27 · 17/11/2019 17:45

Jesus wept. Pick your battles.
Crap isn't even one of the good swear words 😂

TheNewSchmoo · 17/11/2019 17:45

What is wrong with this place today? I might start a thread because yesterday my nephew said bum

Dd not dad

wonderstuff · 17/11/2019 17:45

I think you're being a little precious. I'd explain that adults/teens sometimes use words that are inappropriate and you don't expect her to repeat it. I'd be grateful she's not hearing worse at school.

Hurdygurdy24 · 17/11/2019 17:45

Holy crap are you serious?

IWentAwayIStayedAway · 17/11/2019 17:45

Your child will hear lots. Just explain thats not a word we use

Job done

icclemunchy · 17/11/2019 17:46

How did she get to 8 saying nothing worse than crap?!

CamembertIt · 17/11/2019 17:47

AYB serious?! Grin

Farontothemaddingcrowd · 17/11/2019 17:48

Sorry folks it was actually my child who is the step child and I wanted to gauge reactions. DP received an angry text and I was really annoyed as my teen is a good kid generally, doesn't habitually swear and I just thought it was ridiculously precious.

Is crap a bad word in the UK?

AuntieStella · 17/11/2019 17:49

DC always pick up bad language from older DC.

I don't think this is worth causing family strife about. So if thoroughly amicable, you could mention it and ask him to keep an eye on it (because it's really not good for DD is she starts using it in the playground - though the word is bound to be already known by many).

But on the basis of 'pick your battles' I'd just ignore how she picked up the word, and concentrate instead on how you teach her to choose her tone/vocabulary to match who is around her.

PennysPocket · 17/11/2019 17:49

This is the 2nd "swear that's not really a swear" thread today the last one was fart Hmm

AllStarBySmashMouth · 17/11/2019 17:49

Hahaha love a reverse.

Yeah, it's precious. If she's mad her daughter said crap, all she needs to do is tell her not to say it again and explain why.

Scuzzymummy · 17/11/2019 17:50

Good reverse. No your teen us not being unreasonable. Just give them a heads up to not go ott with swearing. But honestly the mother needs to get a grip

StroppyWoman · 17/11/2019 17:51

What a precious flower your ex is.

AuntieStella · 17/11/2019 17:51

Oh, FFS, why did I waste time on this.

Ignore my previous post - written before 'reverse' revealed
