To be angry that every single Lib Dem sat back and allowed the privatisation of the NHS

Yellow Tories the lot of them. Sickening. They showed their true colours tonight.

What happened?

Mistlewoeandwhine · 23/10/2019 22:30

They all abstained on a vote to prevent the privatisation of the NHS to US investors.

I don't understand how anyone ever trusted them after they got into bed with the Tories.

The NHS hasn't been privatised. What an ridiculous biased article

RosieLynn · 23/10/2019 22:36

You do realise that the vote was a Labour-proposed amendment to the Queen’s speech that would not bind the government in anyway?

The vote, even had it carried, would have had absolutely zero legal effect.

Given that context, of course the Lib Dems didn’t vote for a Labour amendment - why would they vote for something that gives another party a propaganda win, but has no substantive effect? Are you new to party politics?

RosieLynn · 23/10/2019 22:36

By the way, if your source is ‘Evolve Politics’ chances are you don’t know what you’re talking about.

Cinammoncake · 23/10/2019 22:38

Confused well the NHS hasn't been privatised so YABU

geekone · 23/10/2019 22:38

I really don’t think any of that article is true.

It’s definitely true you can put a slant on anything on the internet and make it seem true.

Very biased

Mistlewoeandwhine · 23/10/2019 22:38

The NHS has been about 50% privatised already. My sons neurologist made that exact comment about a year ago. Still free at the point of entry but it is only a matter of time when the Tories and centrists are rubbing their hands together over it.

OP posts:
RosieLynn · 23/10/2019 22:38

Just think about it.

The Queen’s speech is a largely symbolic motion that simply lays out what a government wants to do. The vast majority of it will never get done - Johnson doesn’t have the votes to get it through the Commons.

Thus, the Queen’s Speech (and any amendments to it) cannot be legally binding. It’s a declaration of intent, nothing more.

Mistlewoeandwhine · 23/10/2019 22:40

Lib Dems have shown they don’t support the NHS. Argue otherwise all you want then pray to God it’s not you or your kids needing pricey operations in a few years.

OP posts:
Mistlewoeandwhine · 23/10/2019 22:41

Yes it’s just a declaration of intent but it’s the Lib Dems’ intentions that they are also declaring. They’re showing us who they are.

OP posts:
RosieLynn · 23/10/2019 22:41

Lib Dems have shown they don’t support the NHS

Nope, they’ve just shown they don’t support a cynical Labour attempt to get a positive-sounding, but meaningless headline.

Namenic · 23/10/2019 22:42

? PFIs happened under labour. They are bleeding the nhs.

DorisTheFlorist · 23/10/2019 22:42

Labour have shown that they don't care about the NHS. That is why they have someone totally unelectable as leader

RosieLynn · 23/10/2019 22:42

Yes it’s just a declaration of intent but it’s the Lib Dems’ intentions that they are also declaring. They’re showing us who they are

Again - are you new to party politics???

Labour never votes for non-binding Lib Dem amendments either, however noble the cause.

kingsassassin · 23/10/2019 22:43

Ok Seamus, we've got the message.

hazeyjane · 23/10/2019 22:45

Huge chunks of the NHS have been contracted out to providers like Virgincare. Children's services, school nurses, health visiting, GP services, care provision, social care....

Our experience of this change in our area has been fucking awful.

RedSheep73 · 23/10/2019 22:45

I find it hard to forgive the Libdems for their support of the tory bastards during the coalition years - but right now they are seem like the least worst option. Any chance of getting rid of Brexit depends on them, doesn't it. And Brexit is the ultimate threat to the nhs.

TowelNumber42 · 23/10/2019 22:46

You are living in some alternative universe UK if you think that centrists (and all Tories) actively want to make the NHS be not free at the point of care. That's clearly not true.

Still free at the point of entry but it is only a matter of time when the Tories and centrists are rubbing their hands together over it.

ViaSacra · 23/10/2019 22:47

Oh come on. The NHS has used private contractors since its birth.

I, as a GP, am a private contractor within the NHS...

My services are still free at the point of use and always will be.

IdiotInDisguise · 23/10/2019 22:49

I would be angry with those who did it rather than those who didn’t oppose it.

DorisTheFlorist · 23/10/2019 22:51

Jeremy Corbyn is clearly a Tory stooge. He has been put in place to ensure Labour are unelectable the Tories can pursue their wrecking agenda with no effective opposition

Mistlewoeandwhine · 23/10/2019 22:51

Our only chance for a guaranteed free NHS is under Labour. You’re all very naive if you think otherwise. Remember the student loans lies? They’re telling you they don’t give a damn about the NHS. They will sell it from under our feet.
