Could I please have a link to the Dropbox? Excited to read the books I missed as a child!

Chouetted · 23/09/2019 03:05

I used to have lukewarm morning baths and hair washing certainly wouldn't have been an option - not enough water, for one thing. Remember you only run a couple of inches of water, not a full bath. It's basically just enough to reach your nether regions.

Hot baths are inappropriate for a morning because they make you relaxed/sleepy and encourage you to linger (and steam makes my hair go weird).

Papergirl1968 · 23/09/2019 08:15

Biddy O’Riverdance! Love it Grin
In New Mistress, Kathy is shown the bathroom she’s to share with three others and reminded to stick to the schedule. So not only the girls but the teachers had a bath list. It doesn’t say if it’s morning or evening though.
Going off at a tangent slightly but my mom, born in 1933, was telling me a girl in her class had fits and had to have an hour rest after lunch every day in a deckchair. Very Chalet School (but actually a very ordinary school in the Midlands!)

Yugi · 23/09/2019 08:39

My dad told me that when he was a kid in the fifties, they had a wash every day but baths were once a week and they were considered a clean family. However, they were working class inner city definitely not private school in Switzerland types :D

I have the Dropbox link but can’t send the files to my kindle or open them at all now! Could you resend them s’il vous plait?

swampytiggaa · 23/09/2019 11:35

Still having the same issue 😢 I sent it to kindle but this is what I get when I try to open it

Parker231 · 23/09/2019 11:57

Sorry I don’t have any suggestions. I’ve transferred the books to my Kindle and it worked. Does anyone have any technical answers?

swampytiggaa · 23/09/2019 12:03

I’ll have to ask one of the teenagers when they get home from school 🙂 thank you for sending them again and at least I know now how to transfer them to kindle.... Flowers

Yugi · 23/09/2019 12:12

I have to select copy to kindle rather than send to kindle. That is on my ipad.

Select the book I want on the drop box app, tap the three dots to get the menu. Select export and then Copy to kindle.

Hope that helps

CarrotVan · 23/09/2019 13:03

I do the same as Yugi

I do it a bit of a long way round but I use calibre. I upload titles from the Dropbox, then convert to mobi (even if they already say they're mobi) then email to my Kindle Paperwhite (which I've attached to the pc by a usb cable) using its email address.

I've found this the only foolproof way of doing it and I've now got all of them on there.
They also go into the 'docs' library on Kindle, not books Smile

swampytiggaa · 23/09/2019 13:33

I tried Yugis way that didn’t work.

Can you get free calibre for iPhone? I don’t want to pay out in case it doesn’t work either 🙂 thank you!

flossie80 · 23/09/2019 13:42

Please could I have the drop box link too ! Just about to start Mat leave with baby 2!

Howyoualldoworkme · 23/09/2019 14:54

swampytiggaa Sorry I don't know, I use Android and pc. Maybe you can download a sample and try?

ReanimatedSGB · 23/09/2019 23:43

Was someone wanting Jo Returns ? I have a few of my duplicates up on eBay this week

ReanimatedSGB · 23/09/2019 23:45

Also I went to Interlaken for Christmas a couple of years ago and had to try hard not to bore my family with bouts of excited squeaking when we first saw Lake Thun - and we actually went up the Jungfrau on a funny little railway...

ReanimatedSGB · 23/09/2019 23:46

(I managed not to fall into any crevasses and didn't see any stout peasants.)

QuaterMiss · 24/09/2019 03:48

swampytiggaa I also get the ‘No previews available’ cat sometimes (both in the new kindle-ready file and previously in all the other CS Dropbox files) - but clicking the three dots at the top of that page gives the ‘Export to kindle’ option.

I’m using Dropbox on iphone and exporting to the kindle app on the same device.

As pp have said, with the older non-kindle ready files Send to kindle just doesn’t work. You probably know and have tried all this - am posting merely in acknowledgment of frustration. Hope you’ve found a solution.

BlueBilledBeatboxingBird · 24/09/2019 07:59

Please may I have the Dropbox link? DD is in a boarding school novel phase and I’m hoping to recruit her as a CS new girl Smile

publishGoodbooks · 24/09/2019 08:45

I’m glad I’m not the only one who feels horribly guilty when peeling potatoes.

Speaking of unverified facts, does anyone know if it is actually possible for hair to turn white during a few hours?

And can I please have the link to the Dropbox folder? I’m very impressed that someone has managed to find and type them all up.

Papergirl1968 · 24/09/2019 09:31

publish I was told of a relative who, upon learning her husband had tragically died, put her hand to her head, and where she touched it her hair went white and stayed that way for ever. Kind of like a Mallen streak if anyone read the Catherine Cookson books.
I’m just getting to the end of New Mistress and Kathy has just gone to tell Miss Annersley that she and Mary Lou were injured on the glacier.
But bloody Joey is there, needing to be centre of attention as always, saying she’s become a great aunt as Daisy, her “niece by marriage,” has given birth. Anyone over the age of about ten would have realised there was something wrong and shut their mouth. And when they did share the news they’d say “Daisy has had a baby,” rather than “Hey folks, get this, I’m a great aunt!” Typical Jo to make it all about her Hmm

LaurieMarlow · 24/09/2019 09:31

I’m glad I’m not the only one who feels horribly guilty when peeling potatoes.

Grin I felt it for years.

Then one day I just snapped and thought ‘fuck Frau Mieders. She didn’t have a full time job, 2 kids and 20 mins to prep this shepherds pie’.

And it hasn’t troubled me since.

ReanimatedSGB · 24/09/2019 10:25

I think the hair-white-overnight is a bit of a myth. Mind you, have just been rereading Mary-Lou and rolling my eyes a bit at the great recovering-consciousness scene - the kid's been in a coma for five days and the first thing she does when she wakes up is spew her ring? For which Dr Jack is 'thankful'? Firstly, surely she would have had nothing to throw up, and secondly, why is vomiting post-head-injury supposed to be a good thing?

Evenstar · 24/09/2019 10:47

If it helps anyone, I was having problems with getting the links out of the Dropbox until I installed the Kindle app on my iPad and then it came up as an option to copy it there when you clicked on the little chain symbol, Create a Link and then Open In

TheMustressMhor · 24/09/2019 13:21

There's a similar bout of thankfulness when Win throws up after having been unconscious.

I have no idea why.
