Hi, sorry for coming late to the thread but may I get the link to dropbox please. I never read the series but my mother often talks about them.

PotteryWheel · 03/12/2019 11:36

Yes, she gives her a careless nod and says 'Night night, kid', I think. And really, Joyce is a bit of a brat, but Joey is being a pain to resent that. Joyce has missed the memo that the Robin must be worshipped on sight, plus she has just made a long and difficult journey across Europe in midwinter with her seriously-ill mother, has literally just arrived in a strange household in a strange country -- is it that surprising she's not all over a total stranger?

(And isn't it slightly weird that, even if the Robin habitually kisses Madge, Joey and co goodnight every night, she automatically goes and holds her face up for a kiss to two complete strangers who've just arrived?)

PhilSwagielka · 03/12/2019 13:24

@ReanimatedSGB It's on the CBB thread.

"GGBP have announced titles to be published next year in their Friday email. EBD interest are Geography Readers Volume 2 Kenya/Canada, The Chalet School and the Lintons, A Leader in the Chalet School, The Chalet School in Guernsey(Katherine Bruce), reprints of The New Mistress at the Chalet School, Peace Comes to the Chalet School and Janie of La Rochelle. Next year they are also doing among others Schoolgirl Encyclopaedia Volume 1 and Volume 2 and Cricket Term(Antonia Forest). They are making real headway with the Chalet School titles now."

Reading redheads now and just getting my head round the idea that any private school would accept a girl who was being hunted by international murderers 😂.
‘You say people with guns might appear at my school looking for her? Well, I don’t see why that would be a problem”
I really need to stop reading children’s books

Yugi · 03/12/2019 22:38

More realistic than a copper being able to afford the fees though, I suppose

NewSchoolNewName · 03/12/2019 23:00

It’s a while since I read Redheads, but I had it in my head that the school fees were paid for as part of some sort of witness protection scheme?

Papergirl1968 · 03/12/2019 23:19

Redheads was completely nuts! Don’t think crime was EBD’s forte!

SurpriseSparDay · 04/12/2019 00:53

Peace Comes to the Chalet School???

Xmas Confused
NewSchoolNewName · 04/12/2019 05:58

SurpriseSparDay

Peace Comes to the Chalet School is one of the fill in books written by someone who’s not EBD. Set at the end of WW2.

Rose789 · 04/12/2019 06:42

I’m half way through two sams, then only have another 2 books to go. My commute to work is going to be rubbish once I’ve finished. I’ll have to read the newspaper like an actual grown up.

ReanimatedSGB · 04/12/2019 08:56

Oh myyyyyyy. I had better hope for a lot of sales of my own book (nothing to do with CS) so I can afford all those new GGBP ones.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 04/12/2019 09:44

Gruss Gott my lambs! Very old girl checking in, think I was on the original thread! @Parker231 please may I have the Dropbox link? It sounds like the library has grown since I last dipped in.

I'm new here, but delighted to find this thread! I always thought I was the only person who'd ever read these books.

@Parker231, may I have the Dropbox link please? Looking through this thread, there are so many stories I'd love to read.

SurpriseSparDay · 04/12/2019 19:32

New eh? You’re dreadfully late - didn’t your people read the letter properly? Come along and see Matron at once!Crown Angry

Papergirl1968 · 09/12/2019 20:57

I was reading a copy of The Lady in the doctor’s surgery, as you do, and spotted an advert for a matron for a girls’ boarding school in the UK.
It seems the emphasis was on pastoral care, rather than taking care of sick kids - or assisting the doctors in doping them!
There was another advert for a butler, so from the Chalet School to Downton Abbey Smile
It seemed delightfully old fashioned - and an eye opener to see how the other half live, with the adverts for live-in housekeepers (self contained flat provided) and couples to do the cooking and gardening. I wonder if Joey recruited the faithful Anna through The Lady? Wink

PhilSwagielka · 09/12/2019 21:29

This is immensely lame but I made a playlist of carols featured in CS books. Some of them are absolute bangers. Did not know Tempus Adest Floridum was also Good King Wenceslas. The pantos are utter cringe, but I always love the Christmas plays.

Bloodybridget · 09/12/2019 21:33

PhilSwagielka I think that's a very reasonable thing to do. How many carols were there? Did you know all of them (even under different names)?

Doubleraspberry · 09/12/2019 22:12

Very excited about the reprint of Peace as it goes for silly prices secondhand. Also the Guernsey fill in. I’ve asked for A Refuge for the Chalet School for Christmas, which fills in the missing bit of Exile from what I understand. I suspect though there’s a real chance that a relaxed approach to purchasing may see it sold out before it’s bought for me.

PhilSwagielka · 09/12/2019 23:00

@Bloodybridget I got the list of carols from here: csj.insanitysandwich.com/misc/christmas.html

Lonelykettleshed · 14/12/2019 23:04

I'm nearing the end of my re-read and have started on 'Future Chalet Girl'. Joey, Jack etc are off to the Tiernsee on holiday but have had to build on to their holiday home (former boarding school for 40/50 pupils plus staff) so that it can accommodate their family!
