To say that Merlin are money-grabbing slags?

I know this is a first-world problem and IBU for even setting foot in Legoland..but the kids love it. However I think we have to stop going.

They have been sending me emails saying they are having a big sale and free entry to the park on the 2nd day, with a deadline of the 15th September. So I booked a 1 night stay just before the deadline, then this week I see that they have dropped the price by £70 and still includes the 2nd day entry into the park.

Because this feels as if I was misled, I called to ask if they can refund the difference, NO.

Can they cancel (under distance selling regs) and I will rebook, NO.

(I checked and looks as if DSR doesn't apply to package hols according to gov.uk)

It was clear they didn't give 2 shiny shits that I was a regular customer or they would lose our custom.

I have noticed over the years that they are getting grabbier and grabbier but this takes the biscuit. I cannot stand someone thinking they can put their hand in my pocket but when they play on the fact it's for your kids it makes steam come out of my ears.

I know I am not BU to say they're money grabbing slags, AIBU to try to take this further, maybe on social media or CEO letter? Or should I just give up now, but never go ever again??

Prices go up and down, even after sales. It's a non complaint.

And 'slags', really?

PutyourtoponTrevor · 19/09/2019 16:36

Slags?

MisunderstoodMaleficent · 19/09/2019 16:36

YABU

PristineCondition · 19/09/2019 16:37

Company likes to make money shocker

butterandbread · 19/09/2019 16:38

I’ve worked in travel many years ago, and unfortunately this is just the way it is Sad

Colleagues used to liken it to, if you buy a pair of jeans in the sale in topshop, you do that knowing they may well reduce in price again, and this would give you no right to have them pay you the difference.

But I know it’s bloody frustrating so I feel your pain!

IHaveBrilloHair · 19/09/2019 16:38

Slags, FFS. Hmm

TequilaMockingbird0 · 19/09/2019 16:39

I can't see what a mention on Twitter will do, lots of people will be in the same boat. You should have known the T&Cs when you bought the tickets, there was always a chance this would happen. You were happy with the deal at the time so it's just one of those infuriating things.

YABU for using the word slags. Come on.

pelirocco123 · 19/09/2019 16:40

Its Legoland , of course its for kids

And Businesses are in it to make money
You are VVVU for using the word slags

RedskyLastNight · 19/09/2019 16:42

Price of package holiday changes from day to day based on demand.

Not remotely of interest to anyone.
You were happy to pay the higher price. If you thought it was too much, then you didn't have to.
The park has (presumably) too many vacancies. They launched an offer to get more people in. If they'd got enough people in, they wouldn't have further reduced the price.

MustardScreams · 19/09/2019 16:43

Oh yes, let’s just continue using derogatory terms for women to insult people/businesses.

For fucks sake, as if we don’t have enough to deal with.

I didn’t even read your op. I don’t care what you have to say after that,

ScreamingValenta · 19/09/2019 16:44

'slags' can be a general term for contemptible people of either sex - its meaning isn't confined to the one that's derogatory to women. Has no one ever seen a crime drama where the male villains refer to one another as 'slags'?

IHaveBrilloHair · 19/09/2019 16:45

I read the OP, I just don't care after they used that word.

bee222 · 19/09/2019 16:45

I didn't even realise people still used that word.I haven't heard it in ages.

Greggers2017 · 19/09/2019 16:45

Its just like flights their prices change daily, it's part and parcel of life.

Shoxfordian · 19/09/2019 16:45

Yabu for using that term
Game over

Hedgehogblues · 19/09/2019 16:46

I have never ever heard a man be referred to as a slag

MustardScreams · 19/09/2019 16:46

@ScreamingValenta oh come off it! It’s used for women primarily and you know it. Just another word to belittle women and keep them in their place. Don’t be obtuse.

GingersAreLush · 19/09/2019 16:47

All sorts of companies do this with their prices, surely you must know that? It’s how they make their money.

I usually hate the word slag but you calling Legoland slags has amused me a tad.

OrchidInTheSun · 19/09/2019 16:47

If you were a really regular customer, you'd have an annual pass.

They dropped the price because they still had rooms to shift.

As for slags. Bleugh

Divebar · 19/09/2019 16:48

Yes it’s very “ Sweeny” to use that term but it does look startling in the title. I would have settled for bastards

IHaveBrilloHair · 19/09/2019 16:49

I've honestly never seen/heard it being used about a man, but even so, it describes what?
A person who enjoys sex with many other people.
OMG, consenting adults like an enjoyable activity together, so terrible.

GinNotGym19 · 19/09/2019 16:50

This happens with all breaks/holidays/hotels. The best thing to do is to book at the price you are happy to pay then don’t check it anymore.
My mum is terrible for booking things then she keeps checking the prices & gets wound up if it comes up cheaper later. I don’t get it!

ScreamingValenta · 19/09/2019 16:51

@MustardScreams The Chairman and CEO of Merlin Entertainments are male. The OP has directed the insult to Merlin Entertainments.

Just because you are primarily familiar with the word being used about women, that doesn't mean everyone else has the same associations - not everyone moves in your circles and lives in your area.

FireCrotch69 · 19/09/2019 16:51

I think the word slags is funny and it’s obvious you didn’t mean it in the usual term of ‘a woman who sleeps around’ but an insult in the same vein as ‘git, or bugger, or bastards’

Ignore the Pearl clutches above. Honestly Iv never known such OFFENCE at a fuckin word

MustardScreams · 19/09/2019 16:52

@ScreamingValenta I don’t give a stuff who the CEOs of Merlin are, the word slag is used to describe women who have sex with people. Usually a number that man deem too many.

You can defend the word as much as you like, but it makes you look ridiculous.
