Vegan - "All creatures are gods creatures"

margaritaproblems · 06/09/2019 01:13

Overheard vegan explaining this to non vegan today about how any creature big or small should be left well alone.

Can somebody tell me if it's the same mentality when their kids get headlice ?

Parasitic worms, tsetse flies, ticks...

BobLobLawLLB · 06/09/2019 01:35

It's impossible. All we can do is cause as little harm as possible.

TheClaws · 06/09/2019 02:12

Well - just speaking for some communities I’m aware of - some vegans don’t worry about the headlice either.

araiwa · 06/09/2019 02:58

Why did god make cows so delicious if we arent supposed to eat them.

God clearly does want us to eat animals

BadLad · 06/09/2019 03:03

I fancy rabbit stew tonight.

Anyone know where I can buy it cheaply? Should I go to the butcher's or the pet shop?

Eli38 · 06/09/2019 03:06

Never buy from the pet shop. You can get much cheaper second hand.

GinDaddy · 06/09/2019 03:46

I’m not a vegan and Hmm at some vegans self-righteousness, but this is a pretty poor thread and argument

Zeusthemoose · 06/09/2019 03:56

Strange thread - did you just fancy some random vegan bashing?

Skittlenommer · 06/09/2019 03:59

If it’s attacking you, lice, bacteria a killer bear you can kill it. There is no such thing as a perfect vegan but you just have to try your best to cause the least harm.

For example even when mosquitos are flying about at home biting me I still try and catch and release them. If I have a UTI and the bacteria is attacking me, I’ll destroy the bastards! Grin

onioncrumble · 06/09/2019 04:26

What a bitchy thread

Coyoacan · 06/09/2019 04:29

I don't agree it is bitchy, there is a serious idea behind it.

Mummyoflittledragon · 06/09/2019 05:00

I don’t think this is a bitchy thread. I don’t like being preached at either and op makes a fair point.

MaximusHeadroom · 06/09/2019 05:31

So OP was eavesdropping on someone else's conversation, picks up on one phrase and starts this thread? No not bitchy at all.

I have heard this phrase used multiple times by religious figures.

Why didn't she make the thread about religion? I don't think all creatures are God's creatures because I am an atheist and believe that man invented God to explain things they couldn't and organised religion as a way to create and control society.

But I know people love vegan bashing far more than Christian bashing.Hmm

And for reference, here is the definition of veganism

"Veganism is a way of living which seeks to exclude, as far as is possible and practicable, all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose."

In case anyone here is actually interested

Aannnaa · 06/09/2019 06:05

I used to work with a very vocal vegan (i was also vegan at the time - now just veggie - but this is relevant) who would criticize everyone's lunch and clothes and transport (the transport one came to a stop when she started on our line manager who drives an electric car - red faces for her) long story short - she made a massive deal that her chair and work station had to be vegan and demanded a separate 'non contaminated' fridge for her to store her lunch in - all said while wearing leather boots and with hair bleached that would have washed down the sink and killed countless fish....

CodenameVillanelle · 06/09/2019 06:18

Who's preaching? Did someone start a thread saying everyone should be vegan? Or did the op start one to ask a sarcastic and loaded question?
I'll answer it in good faith anyway. I don't believe in god, so that doesn't motivate me. I believe I don't have the right to kill another being for pleasure, gratification or convenience. I don't kill spiders or bugs that happen to be in places I don't want them to be, if they aren't doing any harm.
However, fleas, lice, worms etc, are causing harm, so they will be killed, because I and my family and pets are more important than them. Some vegans would take issue with me having a hierarchy but I don't have a problem with that.
HTH

Ginfordinner · 06/09/2019 06:27

Skittlenommer DH reacts very badly to mosquito bites, usually requiring antibiotics. So I have no compunction about killing mosquitoes.

Frogsandsheep · 06/09/2019 06:31

I’m a Christian and a vegan but I have no issue in eradicating head lice or fleas! I try to get rid of spiders etc humanly but admit I killed a mosquito recently (but not until it had bitten me 11 times!!)

DontForgetToDeadhead · 06/09/2019 06:31

My DM is vegan. AFAIK she doesn't believe in God but her attitude is that she wouldn't kill an animal when it's not necessary (and she doesn't see eating meat etc as necessary) but if they are causing a big problem (e.g. headlice) then she would kill them in the most ethical way possible.

As an aside, my mum would never tell anyone what they "should" or "shouldn't" do.

SerenaOverjoyed · 06/09/2019 06:48

Have my first Biscuit

It must be difficult for you to be so challenged by other people's moral choices.

CountFosco · 06/09/2019 07:03

What do vegans do about rats?

CodenameVillanelle · 06/09/2019 07:15

What do we do about rats? Nothing as a rule - what do you do about rats?

wanderings · 06/09/2019 07:24

And if they're bringing God into it, isn't there a lot of killing animals in the Bible? Didn't God personally order Abraham to kill a ram, instead of Isaac?

My brother was a bit traumatised by that story (not that he's vegan). "What about the poor ram?"

CheeryB · 06/09/2019 07:37

Echh. Another take a pop at vegans thread. Most vegans I know would try to kill headline but not so they could eat them or use their skin or body for their own benefit or comfort. They don't walk around with tapeworm skin handbags.
