Vegan - "All creatures are gods creatures"

margaritaproblems · 06/09/2019 01:13

Overheard vegan explaining this to non vegan today about how any creature big or small should be left well alone.

Can somebody tell me if it's the same mentality when their kids get headlice ?

OP posts:
ErrolTheDragon · 06/09/2019 07:40

The central Christian theological concept of Jesus, the Lamb of God, dying to atone for our sins makes no sense at all without a backdrop of animal sacrifice.
Maybe the vegan was thinking of a different god?

CheeryB · 06/09/2019 07:44

I don't agree it is bitchy, there is a serious idea behind it

Of course it's bitchy. The serious idea is to take a casual pop at vegans. I'm not even veggie and I can see that.

ErrolTheDragon · 06/09/2019 07:44

I've nowt against vegans, but 'all creatures are gods creatures' is worth taking a pop at.
Don't teach schoolkids 'All things Bright and Beautiful' unless you're happy to follow it with Eric Idle's 'All Things Dull and Ugly'.

BertrandRussell · 06/09/2019 07:48

Oh good. Another thread about mythical vegans! It must be, oh, 12 hours? Grin

forkfun · 06/09/2019 07:49

@MaximusHeadroom

Thanks. The vegan bashing on here is so tiresome. It's nice for you to point out what vegan actually means, rather than basing a whole thread on a snippet of overhead conversation.

For anyone who is actually interested in the ethics. Just I am morally ok with killing a human in self-defence, so am I ok with killing other animals when they attack me. Where people exactly draw the line is down to individual reasoning. I would be ok to kill mosquitos, lice, etc. Or a rodent infestation, as they spread disease. I will not kill any human or non-human animal that is of no direct threat to me.

BertrandRussell · 06/09/2019 07:50

Incidentally, anyone who thinks “All Things Bright and Beautiful” is advocating vegetarianism or veganism has obviously not listened to the second verse.

KateWrong · 06/09/2019 07:52

These threads are tiresome and really quite pathetic

BadLad · 06/09/2019 07:57

Incidentally, anyone who thinks “All Things Bright and Beautiful” is advocating vegetarianism or veganism has obviously not listened to the second verse

Each little flower that opens,
Each little bird that sings,
He made their glowing colors,
He made their tiny wings.

I don't claim to think that the poem is advocating veganism, but I can't see what is so obviously not vegan about the second verse.

RebornFlame · 06/09/2019 07:57

I live with the spiders. They don’t bother me. A mummy spider recently had babies in the corner of my bedroom and I can’t re home them. I’m just hoping they don’t come into my bed! Newly vegan here. I haven’t had to face head lice yet!

Veterinari · 06/09/2019 08:11

I don’t think this is a bitchy thread. I don’t like being preached at either and op makes a fair point.

Except the OP wasn’t being preached at. She was eavesdropping on someone else’s conversation and then decided to come here to start a thread slagging off vegans.

I’m not a vegan and I can see that’s pretty bitchy. I doubt very much she’s actually trying to educate herself on vegan ethics Hmm

BertrandRussell · 06/09/2019 08:12

“Preaching” is now a synonym for “expressing an opinion which is different to mine, but makes me feel ever so slightly guilty”

Saddler · 06/09/2019 08:13

Weirdos usually with a chip on their shoulder

Metempsychosis · 06/09/2019 08:29

“Vegans with bleached hair are killing fish” is the most hilarious reach for a vegan-bashing-stick I’ve ever seen. I’m assuming you skipped GCSE chemistry.

Ponoka7 · 06/09/2019 08:51

No-one faces more ethical dilemmas than a vegan gardener.

Do you read reports about the abuse in slaughter houses? Recently there's been footage of new born calfs, being kicked to death. They were also using the calfs body to beat the mothers into the pens that they wanted her in.

Then there's the fact that the growing grain for that cow is causing world malnutrition.

Not wanting to be a part of immense cruelty and children starving to death, or working themselves to death to pay for water (because the water is redirected for farming), is the same as doing something to prevent disease/ill health.

So lets not pretend that killing of pests, is on a par with what World farming causes.

SweetAsSpice · 06/09/2019 08:53

Biscuit delicious

Bubsworth · 06/09/2019 08:54

Funny that, I've yet to meet a pro-life vegan.

KateWrong · 06/09/2019 08:54

Weirdos usually with a chip on their shoulder

The only person with a chip on their shoulder seems to be Op, for starting a thread slagging off a complete stranger whose conversation she was eavesdropping on

RebornFlame · 06/09/2019 09:07

Well said ponoka7

But so bloody sad Sad

BertrandRussell · 06/09/2019 09:13

Yes- the “ah but what about nits? Huh?huh? Huh?” posts are deeply tedious.

mumwon · 06/09/2019 09:17

@RebornFlame I bet if you lived in Australia you would think differently about spiders - (remembers seeing large poisonous spider in bedroom...shudders...saying that I picked up large spider with tissue & dumped it out front door :) I am the family go to for UK spiders) by the by article about vegans & strokes & lack of B12 etc. I think anybody who goes vegan should ask to see a dietician especially with dc or pregnancy, not just health visitor.

tinierclanger · 06/09/2019 09:18

Hmm I’m neither a vegan nor religious, but have no problem with this perspective as a starting point. It seems quite reasonable to have a philosophy that you don’t harm animals unless they pose a direct threat to you.

Butchyrestingface · 06/09/2019 09:23

Can’t work out whether @margaritaproblems is vegan bashing or religion bashing or both. 🤷‍♀️

Helpz! 🏳

WhatsMyPassword · 06/09/2019 09:24

If weren't meant to eat animals, they wouldnt be made out of meat.

Does anyone ever have a stern word with a man eating tiger and say "No! Tiger! Stop! Have grass instead, if its good enough for th antelope, it's good enough for you'.

BertrandRussell · 06/09/2019 09:25

Fuck me, there are some stupid posters on here.

Beesandcheese · 06/09/2019 09:26

"God" destroyed all but a handful of humans and two of every animal. Just because. The made up sky man is a proper mean bastard.
