Vegan - "All creatures are gods creatures"

margaritaproblems · 06/09/2019 01:13

Overheard vegan explaining this to non vegan today about how any creature big or small should be left well alone.

Can somebody tell me if it's the same mentality when their kids get headlice ?

OP posts:
HugsAreMyDrugs · 06/09/2019 09:36

Perrhaps the vegan and the non-vegan were simply having a reasonable and friendly conversation? Perhaps the non-vegan had asked why this other person was vegan and they were simply answering them?

Then again, it doesn't take much for a vegan to be considered preachy so it wouldn't surprise me if anyone got their knickers in a twist over those two situations....

ErrolTheDragon · 06/09/2019 09:36

Yup. And he could so easily at that point seen the flaw in Animals 1.0 and told Noah to only get pairs of each type of herbivore and carrion eaters.
Not to mention he could have prohibited eating all animals not just pigs etc and prawns.

Veganism is fine but there's a lack of thought process in bringing 'god' into it.
(Note that Jains and Buddhists are non-theistic religions)

BertrandRussell · 06/09/2019 09:38

“Veganism is fine but there's a lack of thought process in bringing 'god' into it. ”
It was the OP whe brought god into it. Not even the people she eavesdropped. Supposedly.

margaritaproblems · 06/09/2019 09:41

For everybody saying I'm bitchy, I have absolutely nothing against vegans at all. The only reason I can think of that you would say that is that I've put the word Vegan in my post 🤷‍♀️.
As other posters said, I was just curious

OP posts:
AndSheWas85 · 06/09/2019 09:41

Extreme Veganism preaching is absolutely head wreaking but there is a certain type of non vegan comments I've noticed lately.

Non-vegan: "I love eating all meat it's delicious particularly lamb the younger better, I love steak too and nobody (certainly not the do gooders who want to save the planet) will tell me how I should live my life, what I eat or what animal by products I use."
It's delivered in an pathetic "I'm so edgy" type tone, that I'm embarrassed for them.

Most people dont care what others eat, but some non vegans are doing themselves no favours here. The childish pitiful glee that the delcare themselves meat eaters is almost as bad as extreme Veganism and their selfrightousness.

So yeah, do what you feel is right for you, but don't be a twat about it.

margaritaproblems · 06/09/2019 09:45

@CodenameVillanelle "Who's preaching? Did someone start a thread saying everyone should be vegan? Or did the op start one to ask a sarcastic and loaded question?
I'll answer it in good faith anyway. I don't believe in god, so that doesn't motivate me. I believe I don't have the right to kill another being for pleasure, gratification or convenience. I don't kill spiders or bugs that happen to be in places I don't want them to be, if they aren't doing any harm.
However, fleas, lice, worms etc, are causing harm, so they will be killed, because I and my family and pets are more important than them. Some vegans would take issue with me having a hierarchy but I don't have a problem with that.
HTH"

But what is it about you and your family that is more important than the headlice? But less important than a rabbit or an elephant?

I'm not asking loaded questions, I'm not actually sure why I'm even asking, I think I just like to know how different minds work.

OP posts:
margaritaproblems · 06/09/2019 09:46

@SerenaOverjoyed what makes you think I am challenged? I don't think you understood the question.

OP posts:
margaritaproblems · 06/09/2019 09:49

@CheeryB how is it another take a pop at vegans thread?

Because I described a situation?
That's incredibly sensitive,

I may not be a vegan myself but I'm not sat here like "lol GrinGrin", I am trying to understand a part of it that didn't make sense to me. I'm not here to bash anything, i have freedom of speech to discuss what I don't understand. Let's not be childish

OP posts:
margaritaproblems · 06/09/2019 09:52

@forkfun that is where my mind went listening to the conversation. And I was thinking about people that have mice or rat infestations (whether they are vegan or not is irrelevant here really, it's only in the title as i was describing what I heard) but people with pest control generally like to be kind and catch and release. So then I got thinking how it works with headlice. Do people go that far?

OP posts:
ErrolTheDragon · 06/09/2019 09:56

It was the OP whe brought god into it. Not even the people she eavesdropped.

I guess you're reading the thread title differently to me.

DontForgetToDeadhead · 06/09/2019 10:01

ErrolTheDragon - the mention of "God" doesn't necessarily mean that the person was talking about a particular religion, let alone Christianity.

ErrolTheDragon · 06/09/2019 10:02

Indeed, I said upthread 'Maybe the vegan was thinking of a different god?'Grin

BertrandRussell · 06/09/2019 10:20

I’m reading the same thread title to you- maybe a different opening post?

inboxmayhem · 06/09/2019 10:27

@CodenameVillanelle poison the fuckers! We had rats when I lived in London. Ghastly rodents

Booboostwo · 06/09/2019 10:30

Have you ever come across the Jain religion?

Personally I am an atheist and find all religions equally stupid, but I have more respect for a religion that preaches non-harm than many of the others.

You do come across as ignorant, btw.

Thecabbageassasin · 06/09/2019 10:33

Perhaps you could have butted into the conversation you where eaves dropping to ask?
It does my head in all the anti veganism, what's wrong with wanting to follow a lifestyle that reduces animal suffering. The example you've given was a private conversation, she was not preaching at you.
Overly opinionated people are fucking annoying regardless of what they waffling on about, but lets keep bashing the vegans.

ErrolTheDragon · 06/09/2019 10:43

It's non theistic.

CodenameVillanelle · 06/09/2019 10:52

Funny that, I've yet to meet a pro-life vegan.

What does abortion have to do with veganism?

To the pp who asked about rats - yes I would have them killed in as humane way as possible (I know there isn't really one) if they were causing a nuisance or a health risk. But they don't currently so I leave them alone.

To the OP who asked why my family are more important than head lice - because they are. I'm not a martyr - I'm not going to live with lice or inflict fleas on my child or pets because I don't believe in killing things. They cause harm- so they die. Spiders, mice, (within reason) woodlice etc don't cause me harm so they don't get killed.

squeekums · 06/09/2019 12:17

@RebornFlame
I live with the spiders. They don’t bother me. A mummy spider recently had babies in the corner of my bedroom and I can’t re home them. I’m just hoping they don’t come into my bed! Newly vegan here. I haven’t had to face head lice yet!

Spiders don't bother you hey?
Wanna come clean my shed down here in Australia then? it's got a family of red backs. Pretty sure there a brown snake living under the steps into shed too, we only killed the one last year, that was in our kitchen, about a meter and a half long.
Or deal with a mouse plague like the other year, no house was safe, if you didn't kill them they were everywhere in their hundreds and thousands

It's not always rational or safe to say I won't kill anything, ever.

BertrandRussell · 06/09/2019 12:21

“It's not always rational or safe to say I won't kill anything, ever.“

Good thing nobody’s saying that, isn’t it?

CodenameVillanelle · 06/09/2019 12:39

@squeekums spiders in the uk don't bother me. If I was in Australia they certainly would. Why is this hard for you to understand?

AryaStarkWolf · 06/09/2019 12:44

another day another vegan bashing thread.........did you really over hear a vegan say that OP, really?

Underdone · 06/09/2019 12:55

@margaritaproblems

It sounds like a vegan bashing thread because you seem to be implying that all vegans are the same. And you have reported a comment completely out of context of the entire conversation and implied that it is a vegan belief rather than just the opinion of that random person. Maybe for a joke? I don't know.

But we're not all the same. We're just people, from all different walks of life, who do not want to inflict unnecessary suffering, pain and torture on sentient animals (I know, I know, what a crazy thought - trying to reduce suffering. How awful we are. Please you must try and make fun of us).

You may believe you have the right to inflict such abuse and the law, at the moment is on your side. But laws change with public opinion. And public opinion is changing on this.

But please don't portray one person's overheard comment as an official vegan statement. Because it's not.

littlepaddypaws · 06/09/2019 13:08

i'm a veggie going over to vegan, my choice and i don't preach to anyone about it. but those who do are a pita and i wish they shut up about it.just like some peeps on mn who think it's okay to bash veggies and vegans.

PooWillyBumBum · 06/09/2019 13:10

How can we tell you what they do when their kids get headlice? We've never met this (imaginary) person.

If you overheard an older person say they didn't recycle, would you post on AIBU asking why older people don't recycle?

Bored of people casting aspersions about huge swathes of people. I'm vegan and most people I work with don't even know (but think I'm incredibly health conscious as I'm always turning down offers of cake and chocolate!)

As for the nits thing. Yes, if me or my kids had nits I'd get rid of them. Bees/wasps, I'll catch and put outside, but if I find a spider in the house I'll generally leave it alone. Mice we've caught and relocated very far away. I don't know what I'd do about rats, never had them. Generally I just try and harm as few beings as possible without sacrificing the health of myself or my family. I think it's boring how bothered people are about what I eat.

You'll get all manner of answers, much as you would if you asked a group of Christians how they feel about LGBT+ people, or if you ask a bunch of mothers how they feel about abortion.
