To think 10 is too old for a doll?

DD has gone in to Y6. She’s 10. She wants a doll for Xmas and is still very much in to pink plastic things. I thought she would have grown out of this by now. AIBU to be concerned that she’s heading for high school next year and acts too young?

No it’s not too old.

Yabu

JustOneMoreCofy · 05/09/2019 21:49

YABVU.

What would you prefer her to be into, make up?

bumblenbean · 05/09/2019 21:49

I think it’s quite sweet. Childhood innocence doesn’t last long- don’t wish it away.

Of course 10 isn't too old for a doll. It's actually really a sad state of affairs that you think it is.

sweetiepie1979 · 05/09/2019 21:50

Is this a joke.....Of course YABU she’s 10 why do you want to take that innocence away from her you sound awful
Ach this is a joke ....is it?

Pinkypurple35 · 05/09/2019 21:51

My DD 10 is exactly the same. I’m happy for her to have a doll for Xmas - she will grow up massively once she gets to high school and no doubt drop the dolls then.

Iminagony · 05/09/2019 21:51

If it's what she likes what's the problem?
As long as she's happy that's all I'd care about.

Worry about high school when she's there.

thebakerwithboobs · 05/09/2019 21:51

I have a v intelligent, popular and well adjusted 14 year old who will still pop off to his room and play games with his teddies. YABVVVVU. Let her be a kid for as long as she needs

sweetiepie1979 · 05/09/2019 21:51

Ach get her some high heels and a bra and make up then make her grow up

MarigoldGlove · 05/09/2019 21:52

My dd asked for and was given a dolls house for her ninth birthday which she played with for years.

ProfessorLayton1 · 05/09/2019 21:52

Dd11 will play with dolls... nothing wrong with that at all!

C0untDucku1a · 05/09/2019 21:52

Yabvu.

LagunaBubbles · 05/09/2019 21:52

God that's a really sad post if that's what you really think. No wonder there is so much pressure on children to grow up at times if some parents think like this.

Beelee · 05/09/2019 21:53

I got a new doll when I was about 12. I thought I was too old for it but my Nan told me i could get whatever made me happy and to sod what anyone else thought. Let her get the doll.

My DD is 10 soon, and has only asked for dolls for her birthday. She is still a little girl of course she isn't too old for a doll.

Singleandproud · 05/09/2019 21:54

We definitely have a mix in year 7 and plenty of the girls still play with dolls.

AudacityOfHope · 05/09/2019 21:54

My DD was never into dolls until this year, she's 9. She got a dolls house for her birthday and loves it.

I think it's a reaction to suddenly feeling a bit more grown up and wanting to stay young and feel safe. I remember that feeling when I was young too.

Hecateh · 05/09/2019 21:55

I don't think it is too old.

Some children of that age are not allowed to be children (various causes/reasons). Let her enjoy her childhood - she will be an adult long enough

Generallybewildered · 05/09/2019 21:55

I wish my 10 year old wanted a doll. Confused
She wants clothes, shoes etc. She used her pocket money to buy a pair of boots. She’s my little girl. Sad

HeavenOrSpace · 05/09/2019 21:55

Definitely not too old. I think it's so strange that children today are kept from adult responsibilities for longer than ever but are considered too old for toys and games at such a young age.

TrainspottingWelsh · 05/09/2019 21:55

Yabu. She’s too old for dolls and pink tat when she decides she’s too old for them, not based on what school year she is in.

EugenesAxe · 05/09/2019 21:56

YABU. When Rock Star Barbie came out I was 15 and I got her for Christmas; still awesome.

10 is still young; you should be thankful she has these interests rather than asking for a phone and being all consumed by her Instagram image or something.
