AIBU to expect my cleaner to remove this fly?

There’s a dead fly in a bathroom light fitting - should I expect my cleaner to remove it?

How do I attach a pic? Hmm

Shylo · 05/09/2019 10:40

No, you shouldn’t ..... she’s there to clean, not dismantle light fittings

Toombumber · 05/09/2019 10:40

I dont think a pic is needed. I would say removal of flies from bathroom lights would be part of a deep clean, so depends what you've paid for.

CamoTeaLaLa · 05/09/2019 10:42

It’s not really dismantling - one just twists it and the but comes off...

cowfacemonkey · 05/09/2019 10:42

Don't be ridiculous. By the time you've taken a photo, uploaded and started this thread you could removed it yourself

CamoTeaLaLa · 05/09/2019 10:43

I’ve taken a pic already Biscuit

Unless it's stipulated in her contract then just DIY.

Aus84 · 05/09/2019 10:47

If it's that easy, why haven't you done it?
It's really not part of a normal clean..

Cassilis · 05/09/2019 10:49

I bet you’re paying her £6 per hour to boot. Twist your own bloody light open. If it breaks you’ll be expecting her to replace it or you’ll dock it out of her wages.

Thatmustbemyname · 05/09/2019 10:52

The cleaner won't have any idea that it's easy to dismantle!

Littlechocola · 05/09/2019 10:54

Is there a reason that you can’t? (Genuine question!)

PalmersGreen · 05/09/2019 10:55

Urgh! Why didn’t you do it as soon as you saw it?

dementedpixie · 05/09/2019 10:55

If it was on a window sill then yes, but not if she has to dismantle a light fitting

dementedpixie · 05/09/2019 10:56

Are you too lazy to do it yourself? Did you ask her to do it? Maybe she hadn't even noticed it

kaldefotter · 05/09/2019 10:56

You could have done it by now, OP!

Instead, you've posted here, taken a photo, posted on here again...

No, it's not your cleaner's responsibility to find a stool, step up on it, try to figure out how to take off the light fitting (it doesn't state "twists off" on the fitting after all), remove the fly, clean the light fitting, put it back, step off the stool, and return the stool.

Cornettoninja · 05/09/2019 10:56

Give over you daft lemon.

Either ask her directly (and know she’ll be rolling her eyes internally) or do it yourself.

Any other opinion you’d like? I’m definitely a knickers before jeans kind of girl but ymmv.

Biscuit
CamoTeaLaLa · 05/09/2019 10:59

OK, I accept it’s part of a deep clean.

A change of focus - she didn’t empty the bins last time... I thought that would be a given?

OP posts:
SachaStark · 05/09/2019 11:00

If I were a cleaner it wouldn’t even occur to me that this was part of my job Confused There’s no way I’d dismantle a light fixture, what if it was broken in the process?

Cornettoninja · 05/09/2019 11:00

Dude - speak to your cleaner not MN.

Katinski · 05/09/2019 11:02

Here, I'd call out my Maintenance Company to do the deed. I pay them extra to be on 24hr call out for just such emergencies. Worth every one of the millions of pennies I pay them.
Could you not do something similar, OP?

PalmersGreen · 05/09/2019 11:04

Did you ask her to empty the bins? Does she know what to do with the recycling etc?

It sounds like you are looking for MN to tell you your cleaner is a bit shit! Why? Find someone else if you are not happy.

transformandriseup · 05/09/2019 11:06

I would have just asked her if you wanted it done.

TrendyNorthLondonTeen · 05/09/2019 11:06

"A change of focus - she didn’t empty the bins last time... I thought that would be a given"

Drip drip drip...

PleasedToSeeYou · 05/09/2019 11:07

Have you really got nothing better to do.?
I wouldn't expect them to do either of those things, they are there to clean
Sounds like you need a housekeeper
