AIBU to expect my cleaner to remove this fly?

There’s a dead fly in a bathroom light fitting - should I expect my cleaner to remove it?

How do I attach a pic? Hmm

I wouldn't expect a cleaner to empty bins unless it was agreed in advance or was waste the cleaner had generated YABVU with your expectations!

MarshaBradyo · 05/09/2019 11:08

And yes yabu to expect her to remove it

LeysaV · 05/09/2019 11:08

Oh ffs

KarmaStar · 05/09/2019 11:10

is this really all you have to worry about?

BitOftheSea · 05/09/2019 11:11

Is this your first time having a cleaner? They all do different stuff unless you specify. I’ve had quite a few different cleaners. None would dismantle a light fitting, that’s a bizarre expectation. Most would empty bins automatically, but some you will need to ask.

Paraballa · 05/09/2019 11:14

I'd expect bins to be emptied yes but not light fittings to be dismantled unless you specifically asked.

user1493494961 · 05/09/2019 11:17

Pressed YANBU by mistake but you are. Cleaners don't dismantle light fittings.

sheshootssheimplores · 05/09/2019 11:19

No. You empty your bins and clean your light fittings unless you tell your cleaner that you would like her to do those things and she’ll the. price that into the job according to the time she has allocated.

tonglong · 05/09/2019 11:27

As an electrician I would advise any cleaner not to take light fittings apart, even if it is just a removable cover.

Lots of fittings can brake or fail due to plastic deterioration, also the risk of exposed live parts.

No. Messing with fixtures and fittings is not her job.

Having said that, my cleaner is a bloody saint. My bath shower attachment was stuck locked in the retracted position, and I warned her just because she uses it to hose down the bath. She fixed it for me.

I would agree about bins being emptied though. Mine does that, and the recycling next to the door.

I luuuuurve her.

NoSquirrels · 05/09/2019 11:36

If you've noticed the fly and want the cleaner to remove it, ask her nicely (or do it yourself).

If the bins weren't emptied last time, mention it to her.

How long is she there, how much do you pay, and how much do you expect her to do?

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 05/09/2019 11:41

Reverse. I bet op is the cleaner and their employer has had a go for not getting rid of the fly or taking the bins out

theunrivalledjoysofparenting · 05/09/2019 11:42

Bin emptying is not a thing my cleaner does. Does your cleaner usually do this but didn't once? Why don't you ask her to in future?

I would not expect a cleaner to dismantle a light fitting, no.

BettyBottersBitterButter · 05/09/2019 11:46

Why would you not just ask him/her?

I spilled some coffee down a wall (don't ask) in a place where it couldn't be seen easily.

I asked my cleaner nicely if she would mind cleaning the wall for me, and apologised as I'd been too busy and lazy to do it myself.

I didn't just expect her to go around scanning the walls in case some clumsy git had spilled something on them.

YABU if you expect your cleaner to gaze at all your light fittings to ensure there are no dead flies present Hmm

firawla · 05/09/2019 11:50

Bins should be done. I see that as part of a basic clean and mine always does it. But dismantling a light, probably not unless you specifically asked

AryaStarkWolf · 05/09/2019 11:52

I wouldn't have thought a cleaner empties bins....just cleans?

coffeeandaciggie · 05/09/2019 11:57

My lovely friend cleans and was left a note asking her to remove a fly from a window sill.
I thought it showed total disrespect for her- it takes longer to write the note and is so obviously a power thing.

coffeeandaciggie · 05/09/2019 11:59

And, while I'm not saying that anyone on here has ever done this, she has also been expected to clean loos which haven't been flushed and a teenager's room with vomit in the bin from his drunken night before.
Please treat your cleaner nicely.

CTRL · 05/09/2019 12:01

If you wouldn’t do it yourself why on earth would you expect her to ??

She’s a cleaner hunni not a handyman.

Lovingthesunshine88 · 05/09/2019 12:01

If it's one twist and it comes off do it your bloody self

what an asshole

thecatsthecats · 05/09/2019 13:04

I asked my cleaner nicely if she would mind cleaning the wall for me, and apologised as I'd been too busy and lazy to do it myself.

Yup. I expect her to do a general clean of an area without specifying tasks (which includes flies off window sills), because she has her own professional standards to maintain, and is clearly proud of.

I do point out things that would be a lot less obvious or are actively hidden, or if something is broken and needs leaving out.

She knows my house, she knows where we put things, she does fancy things with throws and cushions when she's done - and if I need anything out of the ordinary, I ask.

The one thing she won't do is furniture stain removal, because of different fabric reactions etc.

Mumtotwo82 · 05/09/2019 13:52

Remove it yourself!? Hmm about the bins talk to your cleaner. My Mil was a cleaner for years and she didn't do bins. I don't know why it was just something she never wanted to do, take rubbish out and clean bins.

sheshootssheimplores · 05/09/2019 14:06

thecatsthecats mine is doing the same and driving me mad. Is it limescale related? That’s what I’m guessing.
