In not removing review

onanothertrain · 21/08/2019 13:16

Contacted a tradesperson for urgent repair, was told no problem, they would check the diary and phone me back within an hour. 4 hours later, no phone call so I sent a text. Another 4 hours later still nothing. I will admit to being annoyed so I left a Google review stating the above. An hour later I got a text asking me to remove the review as they hadn't actually done any work for me and they were working hard to maintain their business. I didnt respond and have now had 2 more texts asking me to remove the review. Im now considering either ignoring the texts and blocking, removing my review but leaving another one explaining why or just removing it all together. Although my stubborn side is not leaning towards the third option. So Aibu not to remove it?

have had many tradespeople over the years of owning my home not call back or agree to a time and not show up. I've never left a bad review on that basis.

You've agreed times for them to do a job and they haven't showed up but you didn't leave a bad review? Why the hell not!? That's very bad customer service.

skybluee · 21/08/2019 18:36

The whole point of the reviews is things like this. Why should she be called names for stating the truth? She simply wrote what happened i.e. the facts. I'd like to know this information if I was trying to choose someone. It's important.

This thread is ridiculous. Make the world a nicer place? They're reviews. They're meant to be factual, honest reviews so people know what the process of dealing with the person is like! A vengeful cunt for stating that he promised to call back within an hour, and didn't? That's what happened. He suggested the hour's call back, not her.

She left a review of what happened. That is the entire point of reviews. I wonder how many reviews have been removed thus giving an inaccurate picture? That actually renders the entire thing pointless...

WorraLiberty · 21/08/2019 18:38

She May just have saved a family and business from going under so lots of blessings her way!

Seriously you need to get a grip.

One review about an un-returned telephone call does not make an otherwise good business go under Hmm

If the business were to go under due to a review like the OP's, it would absolutely deserve to because it would've been the straw that broke the camel's back.

RavenBlack · 21/08/2019 18:42

@Nodramahere you actually sound like a nice (if slightly dramatic) person, and I understand bad reviews can cause shit for businesses. But the OP only said the tradesman never turned up and also ignored her calls, and had still not responded after 8 hours. Yet he managed to contact her as soon as he saw the bad review about him!

And I know people/tradesmen are busy, but it takes about a minute or less to send a quick text. This man has no excuse IMO.

All that said, I do agree that it was a bit harsh to put the bad review on so soon, as bad reviews CAN affect businesses badly, and he MAY have had a good reason for not contacting her for all she knew..

Blessings to you too. 🙏 Sorry if I was a bit sarcy! Grin Blush

AllieDidNotDeserveBea · 21/08/2019 18:56

OP, post the review again and this time state that they asked you to remove your previous bad review. I always read reviews, and i'd want to know if a company is getting people to remove them as it means the reviews that are there do not give an accurate image of the business.

saucyspice · 21/08/2019 18:57

I don't think you're being massively unreasonable the review is only stating a fact and he shouldn't have promised to call you back in an hour if he was unable to keep that promise.

Nodramahere · 21/08/2019 18:59

Thank you @Ravenblack I will take and appreciate any blessings coming my way Grin

I do concede that maybe I had a knee jerk reaction to this situation but you see it’s very difficult for small businesses now that reviews are so common, my husband has had some real mean ones for a lot less than what happened in this situation and I usually reply with a bible quote reminding them that Jesus is watching and that their words speak that which lies within their hearts. Hubby wants me to stop doing this and I’ve told him when they learn to zip it then so will I lol.

Anyway I must also say that the horrific language towards the OP on here is also NOT OKAY and I’ve been disgusted by some of the names she’s been called!!! Come on people let’s join metaphorical hands and make the world a nicer place.

RedDogsBeg · 21/08/2019 19:05

@Nodramahere

I’ve read back over things and I misunderstood,

and did your re-reading notice that the tradesman had promised to call the OP back within an hour in order to discuss her urgent job as I note you have not mentioned this?

still I stand by my view that it’s probably what happened! Most tradesmen wouldn’t not call someone back for 8 hours for the fun of it!!

and a pig just flew by the window.

I just pray after every customer that they leave a review on a positive only site so they can’t spew their vitriolic bile!!! It’s just not ethical!

It is not ethical to promise to do something then not do it and take the hump when it is pointed out to you whether in person or on a review site.

I did see as well just now that the OP has removed it, thank heavens 🙏 She May just have saved a family and business from going under so lots of blessings her way!

Have you drunk a bottle of hyperbole? You'd be better off drinking a bottle of reading comprehension and making sure you know what is in the opening post and what is in the subsequent posts by the OP before launching into such a drama llama rant.

WorraLiberty · 21/08/2019 19:09

I'd be divorcing you before you killed my business stone dead if I was your husband.

RedDogsBeg · 21/08/2019 19:24

Perhaps you show your husband some respect and do as he asks before you sink his business with your knee jerk reactions and biblical quotes.

Nodramahere · 21/08/2019 19:26

Yes sorry I did see that in fact he promised an hour but it’s so easy to say these things in the moment and not follow them through! We’re all just humans ultimately 😢

I won’t continue to post as I feel I’m derailing the thread and am actually not a fan of drama despite what others may think , I admit I reacted hastily and condemn that behaviour and retract my initial ‘tailspin’.

Blessings to you all and to the OP, I hope your work manages to get done soon! 🙏

Coyoacan · 22/08/2019 03:55

Interesting. Are people posting reviews to take revenge on a company or a tradesperson or are they posting them to help other people from falling into the same trap?

The result is the same as long as the review is honest. Frankly, it is extremely helpful to the rest of us to know that a tradeperson is unreliable.

LellyMcKelly · 22/08/2019 04:40

I would totally leave it up there. We should all be doing this. Some tradespeople think nobody has anything better to do than wait for them to phone or show up. Funny how he can contact you seconds after you leaving a review, but couldn’t be bothered for the 8 hours before.

5zeds · 22/08/2019 05:22

Weird that the OP stating what happened is something tradesmen want to hide from their customers. If your customers knowing you don’t reply when you say you will leads to them going elsewhere perhaps rather than wanting those you’ve let down to say so you should change your practice and prioritise the things your customers care about?

Personally I’d be grateful to read the truth.

tolerable · 22/08/2019 05:40

bollocks.you didnt review the work.cos they didnt inform you..they were working hard to maintain business.even tho they said would..twice.fuck dem.its not nasty.its true.

RedTideBlues · 22/08/2019 06:22

He said that he would call back within the hour so he started the clock. It wouldn't have taken minutes to text you. I would leave the review as long as it was specific to what I was unhappy about. He could not have been that overwhelmed with work not to spare a few minutes.

tolerable · 22/08/2019 06:40

fuckin hell!!!! whilst occasionally enough(to stay)mumsnet can be invaluable.enlightening, influencing, even utterly realistic. The responses to OP, are for first few pages pretty much inclusive of "twat"-directed at her. To all and every one of you whos went that route ,also to the outraged who more than suggest she was outrageous-with take it down demands....get the back to school washable ink pen and write cunt on your top today.cos you are. ..you sure as hell dont always get whatchu pay for, some fanny that cant respond, twice,in a self allocated time frame...deserves a review that reflects that. the nodramahere "i quote from the bible" is a tits up that google speak is accessible whilst in a straightjacket....you should be nailed to a cross for attempting to smite anyone, nevermind honest reviews with such a fucked up attitude.godly is not next to cuntly.you are....the wise man built his house as far away from you as he could.probably....whats the actual point in reviews if they arent fit for purpose.i understood, from a first read..no work was done. ..also understood why not.this the most horrific leech infestation of true colours and sanctamonious wankstaining ive EVER seen onhere.probaly..small business now looks like small minded couldni give a fuckery on a scale that would tempt reverting to that word where the government was the dealer..before maggie hit earth...ffs

CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 22/08/2019 06:50

I'd leave the review up. If they said they'd get back in an hour and didn't, that's crap service.

Gotta stay ahead of the game to be successful as a business. Its the upside of capitalism !

AyeToIndy · 22/08/2019 07:05

I would update the review by adding that within x time of posting the negative review he asked you to take it down and then again x time later. I think if he had been involved in a personal or professional emergency he would have said so along with the request to remove the review. Im sure in that case you would remove it.

Interesting that so many people think that in the midst of a personal crisis he would be checking and responding to online reviews

NisekoWhistler · 22/08/2019 07:10

You sound a bit like a psycho. If you use eBay let me know your username so I can block you in advance

Mayagoldchoc · 22/08/2019 07:34

I frequently ignore bad reviews that aren't relevant. I think it's justified - they specifically said they'd get back after an hour - shouldn't say that if they might not be able to. 8 hrs is a significant difference.

I've also had a bad review discredited by a plumber who changed the name of their business and implying I'd reviewed the wrong one! I couldn't change my review to the new company due to restrictions on the website. Companies use all kinds of tricks and there are plenty who don't deserve to be in business! I'd only go with a personal recommendation from someone I know these days.

turnaroundbrighteyes · 22/08/2019 07:41

All of you still condemning her don't you realise when she left the review he had 3 options:-

  1. Respond professionally on the review site apologising and saying why he fucked up by not replying when he said he would.
  2. Ring OP oppologise for not replying when he said he would and offering to come over right away and do the job = good review without even asking
  3. Behave like a dick, ignore her emergency and hassle her about the review

1 and 2 would have saved damage to his business

EmpressJewel · 22/08/2019 08:00

Although the tradesperson shouldn't have promised to call you back within a hour and didn't. I think leaving a review after just 8 hours was unfair.

To give you an example. We needed some electrical work and OH knew an electrician who was an ex-neighbour. He cancelled twice on us at short notice and I was getting annoyed as you can imagine. When he did turn up on the third visit he was extremely apologetic and said he was working on an emergency job and it would have been dangerous to leave it as it was. He ended up doing a brilliant job for us.

WeshMaGueule · 22/08/2019 08:33

he'd let down other people who didn't post a review for whatever reason

Or indeed he might have harassed other people into taking down bad reviews as well.

WeshMaGueule · 22/08/2019 08:42

He cancelled twice on us at short notice and I was getting annoyed as you can imagine.

Could he not have told you he was working on an emergency while cancelling and saved you getting annoyed?
