In not removing review

Contacted a tradesperson for urgent repair, was told no problem, they would check the diary and phone me back within an hour. 4 hours later, no phone call so I sent a text. Another 4 hours later still nothing. I will admit to being annoyed so I left a Google review stating the above. An hour later I got a text asking me to remove the review as they hadn't actually done any work for me and they were working hard to maintain their business. I didnt respond and have now had 2 more texts asking me to remove the review. Im now considering either ignoring the texts and blocking, removing my review but leaving another one explaining why or just removing it all together. Although my stubborn side is not leaning towards the third option. So Aibu not to remove it?

They evidently weren't too busy if they managed to find time to respond to ask her to remove the review.

Just try running a trade for a long time and you would change your view very quickly

I've got to agree with this. I'm reminded of one particular woman who rang me for the first time after hours on a Friday evening. Then again several times on Saturday. By Monday morning she was spitting feathers! She wasn't even a potential customer!! She just wanted some information from me that she thought I might be able to give her (obv for free). Her messages were quite threatening in the end. She even referred to me as, "this " as though I might be a fictional character!

I'm not suggesting the OP was anything like this, of course, but just trying to provide some possible context. When you work for yourself, you often don't have a team of people to take up the slack and you can't meet every expectation.

The guy in the OP's scenario shouldn't have over-promised. But, it sounds like he may well have been juggling priorities and I can understand him not being available until it became a more urgent situation for him.

Good tradesmen will be busy, because they are good. It's not fair to leave a review like you have done, remove it you are being unfair

Totally pointless to do what you did. We have asked 3 flat roofing companies for quotes. All said they would and only 1 has done so. Should I leave the other 2 negative reviews? In my opinion no, I just won't bother with them again.

Oh my goodness this poor man, he was having a personal emergency ffs!!! He only said he’d call back not give a time frame people are just making stuff up with this ‘call back in an hour’ stuff!!!!

I will only say this once YOU HAVE TO TAKE DOWN THE REVIEW ITS FULL OF MISINFORMATION AND IS GOING TO RUIN HIS BUSINESS AND FAST!! REVIEWS ARE MEANT TO BE ABOUT WORK QUALITY NOT ADMIN, I BET HES AN EXCELLENT TRADESMAN! He never got that chance to prove this to you

It’s a sad day when an emergency that stops a mere phone call leads to the destruction of a much needed business which helps to feed his family, I beg you to take it down. I wish google wouldn’t allow negative reviews at all, thankfully Facebook has seen the light with this and made it positive only - if you don’t have anything nice to say don’t say anything at all remember!

We have no idea why he didn't call back, he didn't perform any work for her to review, and after an hour she could have just voted with her feet and taken her money elsewhere.

Judging by this thread there are a lot of vindictive little people out there who really enjoy wielding their tiny and insignificant power.

Can you show us where, in the OP’s posts it says that this tradesman had a ‘personal emergency’ or that one factual but negative review has destroyed their business? I am not holding my breath.

Nodramahere - no we're not making it up about the hour either. The op says (in her first post) that he said he'd ring back 'within the hour'.

Some of the later responses suggesting the workman’s kids will starve and that you are never allowed to leave a bad review unless the tradesperson totally fucks up your home are insane.

usually these people know where you live. I never leave reviews for this reason

I understand the OP putting the review, as she was annoyed at the time. I do think it was harsh and hasty though, and on reflection, so does she, and she has now taken off the review. Over 3 hours ago actually. Yet some people are still banging on about it. Give it a rest y'all.

Leave your review I would do the same I was promised a service waited long enough never happened u left a honest review. It could happen to someone esle that's what reviews are for freedom of speech x

I’ve read back over things and I misunderstood, I thought the OP had said something about a personal emergency but it was another posted speculating that, still I stand by my view that it’s probably what happened! Most tradesmen wouldn’t not call someone back for 8 hours for the fun of it!! I’m hoping OP will be back to clarify his reasons as I can’t imagine he wouldn’t tell her.

No I’m not his wife, but I am married to a plumber and it’s reviews like this that really affect business!!! I just pray after every customer that they leave a review on a positive only site so they can’t spew their vitriolic bile!!! It’s just not ethical!

Op, but I agree with you.

You never promise what you can't deliver. I'm a public servant and the number of people that almost fall out of their chair when I call them back is just astonishing. I guess it's because very few people do. But it shouldn't be that way.

Why wouldn't you leave a review stating they are bad at communicating/slow at responding? That way when we want a tradesperson we can not bother with them from the start.
