To the supermarket which is a 30 minute walk away. I hate carrying bags in my hands so thought the rucksack would be better but i don't want to look ridiculous.

Why not? Also a much healthier way to carry your shopping.

I always use a backpack if I’m buying more than one or two items.

picklejimmy · 20/08/2019 09:16

I always wear a backpack to school (I'm a teacher) I don't care if it looks silly, it's comfy haha!

whothedaddy · 20/08/2019 09:17

I wear a backpack to work as I walk and carrying a laptop etc in a shoulder bag would give me terrible back ache.

We don't do a 'big shop' I just pop into Aldi on my way home a couple of times a week and carry it home in my backpack. It is so much better for your health to carry heavy loads as close to your body as possible and to evenly distribute the weight.

No one ever bats an eyelid at me carrying a backpack.

let me tell you secret- noone really cares what other people are doing :)

AngelasAshes · 20/08/2019 09:17

Gosh no. You will look fine.

IsobelRae23 · 20/08/2019 09:17

Not at all. That’s what I used to do, when I could walk a fair distance, I seen it as good exercise. Poor health doesn’t allow it now 😩 so I have to take the car out of need not want. Go for it! Besides no one else will look at you or care (and you may get some ‘that’s a good idea’ comments like I used too )

haverhill · 20/08/2019 09:17

I hope not, I wear one every day! So much better than a handbag as you don’t have to tense up one shoulder all the time.

sirfredfredgeorge · 20/08/2019 09:19

No, you look sillier struggling with bags...

Skinnychip · 20/08/2019 09:21

There is a man who wears a straw hat with flowers on it to my local sainsburys come rain shine or snow which is unusual but ut makes me smile every time i see him. I don't think I'd give a second glance to someone doing something as boring as wearing a rucksack!!

Skinnychip · 20/08/2019 09:22

I thought the scenario was going to be can i wear a rucksack to a wedding or black tie dinner...

IveGotAlpen · 20/08/2019 09:24

Always wear a rucksack to carry my shopping home and put some in the bottom of the pushchair , much easier than trying to carry heavy bags :)

kitty4paws · 20/08/2019 09:27

I have used a rucksack and an "old lady" shopping trolley (fresian cow design) to do my shopping.

I'd much rather be comfy than "cool"

Go for it, no one, literally no one, will care.

Maybe a star wars themed one?? :-)

Fridakahlofan · 20/08/2019 09:29

you will look AMAZING! Good for you for walking :)

WishMyNameWasWittyNotShitty · 20/08/2019 09:29

Not at all, if I work away from my usual base and use public transport I always use mine, far easier than carrying anything in my hands.

DirtyDennis · 20/08/2019 09:29

No, of course not but even if you did who the fuck cares? as long as you're comfortable?

I don't have a car so when I shop at the supermarket (rather than getting home delivery), I always wear my backpack down there because I can't carry heavy stuff in carrier bags.

I wear a backpack to work as well and it's been nothing short of a miracle for my back.

DP says I always look like a lost Dutch exchange student Grin

Branleuse · 20/08/2019 09:31

Noone will care. Honestly noone is giving it or you a second thought. Rucksacks are fine

Letthemysterybe · 20/08/2019 09:34

Do you think other people that you see in rucksacks look silly?

Strugglingtodomybest · 20/08/2019 09:37

I don't understand, why do you think you'd look daft or ridulous?

VioletCharlotte · 20/08/2019 09:40

When you say rucksack, do you mean one of the huge ones people use when they go travelling? That may look a little odd.

Otherwise, why not? People use small rucksacks/ backpacks all the time on days out, going to work, etc.

Seeline · 20/08/2019 09:44

I've seen lots of people using rucksacks at my local Sainsburys - the big ones - probably about 50 litres. Can get probably 2-3 days shopping in it. I've always thought it very sensible, and don't think it looks ridiculous at all. Heavy bags are so hard and painful to carry, don't worry what others might be thinking!

TiredOldTable · 20/08/2019 09:46

Its a supermarket

People go in pyjamas, hair rollers and swimsuits
They piss on the floor in the aisles

You will be fine.

nornironrock · 20/08/2019 09:47

Seriously? Who cares?

Will it be more comfortable for you? Yes. Will it allow you to do what you need? Yes.

Then why the question?

Mrsjayy · 20/08/2019 09:48

You would look dafter struggiling with loads of bags our tesco is in the middle of a residential area there is all sorts of bags and suitcases 😀 taking shopping home.

RedWoollyHat · 20/08/2019 09:49

Of course it's fine. No one is looking at you. No one cares what bag you use.

whattodowith · 20/08/2019 09:49

Another backpack wearing teacher here! Much better for your back.

Bagadverts · 20/08/2019 09:52

Seems really sensible to me. I think you are more likely to make others think that it’s a good idea.
