To the supermarket which is a 30 minute walk away. I hate carrying bags in my hands so thought the rucksack would be better but i don't want to look ridiculous.

A backpack is my main bag op! I don't have a handbag. Love my backpack. You can get so much stuff in it. I am a 40 year old with 3 year old btw! I was in my local city the other day and noticed so many people with a backpack (all ages). Buusness backpacks, casual backpacks, sporty ones. Honestly op. Get the bag and make your life easier!

youarenotkiddingme · 20/08/2019 09:57

I always wear a backpack!

Not just to go shopping. They are helpful to our on back and help maintain a good posture rather than the shoulder shrug of using a handbag.

madderthenaboxofffrogs · 20/08/2019 09:58

Who cares? Stop worrying about what people think and if it makes ur life easier why not.

Don't understand why posting this? Why do people care so much about what other people think?

SuzieBishop · 20/08/2019 09:58

I wear my rucksack everyday! It’s just so much easier for all the stuff I’ve got to cart around for DS 2 and DD 3 months! Who cares what anyone thinks anyway!

SouthernLands · 20/08/2019 09:58

Backpack, or shopping trolley. Nothing dafter than struggling with shopping bags for 45 minutes.

bwydda · 20/08/2019 10:00

I go for backpack (a bright and childish smiggle one that my dd grew out of- I refuse to throw it away, as it's useful!) AND old lady trolley. I do t have a car and Lidl is a 40minute walk. I can do a whole weeks shop and walk home in complete comfort- no aching shoulders, or painful hands, no struggle at all.

Minai · 20/08/2019 10:01

My baby changing bag is a rucksack. I wear it a lot and I’ve never given a second thought to looking silly. It’s practical and I doubt anyone would notice or care

HillRunner · 20/08/2019 10:03

Why is this even a question. I wear a rucksack whenever I know I will be carrying things (including for work, toting around a laptop). It's sensible and much better for your back.

Why on earth would you look silly? Do you think women should only ever use handbags?

ShirleyPhallus · 20/08/2019 10:04

How is this even a question? Confused

femidom12 · 20/08/2019 10:07

TiredOldTable People piss in the aisles? Where the hell do you live??

MaryBoBary · 20/08/2019 10:07

Of course you won't look silly OP. As a student I used to have to take my wheelie suitcase to asda to pack my shopping in and get it all home - now that got a few looks Grin

Lastnightajdsavedmylife · 20/08/2019 10:09

No, of course not but even if you did who the fuck cares? as long as you're comfortable?
This⬆️
This is my total motto for life. Just stop caring. Life changing

CassianAndor · 20/08/2019 10:10

do you mean a proper full-on backpack like when you go backpacking?

I suppose it might look a little unusual if you're wandering round a suburban town with it but it sounds perfectly sensible to me and a lot better than heavy shopping bags dragging at your shoulders.

BearSoFair · 20/08/2019 10:29

What's daft about a rucksack? Confused They're practical and much better than lugging around shopping bags!

gavisconismyfriend · 20/08/2019 10:29

More likely, someone struggling with bags will see you with your rucksack and think “great idea”

justbeingadad · 20/08/2019 10:37

I see it literally every time I go to the supermarket.

I'd say you're winning at life if you are concerned about what people think of you when you're wearing a backpack to a supermarket Smile

FaFoutis · 20/08/2019 10:39

This is the saddest question I have seen on MN.

Lastnightajdsavedmylife · 20/08/2019 11:00

This is the saddest question I have seen on MN.
Just joined then.?

FaFoutis · 20/08/2019 11:05

maybe 'what have you eaten today?' is equally sad.

Nottobesoldseparately · 20/08/2019 11:07

I've just dug out my rucksack as I'm going to a country show this weekend on the bus.

I need my water bottle and cagoule etc.

I'm just disappointed I don't have a Harry Potter one!

QualCheckBot · 20/08/2019 11:09

Do people actually care about this sort of thing? To go to the supermarket??

browzingss · 20/08/2019 11:12

The only potential issue would be if you do a somewhat large grocery shop and have to try and awkwardly Tetris it all into your backpack!

Otherwise some bags for life (eg M&S) can be worn on your shoulder like a tote - probably wouldn’t be suitable for a heavy shop

CassianAndor · 20/08/2019 11:17

Do people actually care about this sort of thing?

well, duh!

Some people absolutely hate to stand out, it makes them very uncomfortable

I also think a lot of people aren't getting what the OP means by backpack.

BowiesJumper · 20/08/2019 11:19

Why would it look silly??

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 20/08/2019 11:19

Why would you look daft? I wear a rucksack every day to carry everything as I walk everywhere so it would cripple me otherwise.
