Just been looking on Rightmove at houses in St John's Wood Shock

What kind of people live here? Do any MNers live there? I am amazed at the house prices, even renting is at least a couple of grand a month!

I used to live round the corner from there literally a 5 minute walk. It was a shit hole. Haha this was 30 years ago!

marvellousnightforamooncup · 11/08/2019 22:31

Very rich people live there.

ohflowerofscotland · 11/08/2019 22:31

The properties are absolutely stunning. I saw it on Homes Under The Hammer once.

Imagine living there..

I used to know people who lived there. One friend's husband worked for an American investment bank and had their huge apartment paid for. One's husband ran the Dorchester or something like that. One High Court Judge.

Lots of Americans. Lots of very rich people. Also feels generally older to me (compared to nearby Primrose Hill and Hampstead). Personally I don’t like it much!

Pipandmum · 11/08/2019 22:42

Damien Lewis, Paul McCartney, Kate Moss, Bill Nighy, Keith Richards...

Jojoanna · 11/08/2019 22:45

I would like to live there Smile

Fuma · 11/08/2019 22:45

Grace Kelly and Ray Milland in Dial M For Murder!

It's always been 'that' sort of area, even 70 years ago.

I think you mean a week! Lots of Americans, lots of Middle Eastern families, lots of rich Jewish families, lots of people with lots of money. Agree it’s a bit older and much less cool than neighbouring primrose hill / Belsize Park

applepieicecream · 11/08/2019 22:50

Kate moss and Damian lewis don’t.

Mother87 · 11/08/2019 22:53

One of DH's friends lives there... He works on Harley St dontcha know - the place was proper proper posh too... only managed a rummage in the downstairs loo, but by gaaaawd twas the most lavish loo i've ever seen

Al2O3 · 11/08/2019 22:54

I did live there!

In a property in Norfolk Road. It went up for sale while I was renting a room in a flat there. The price in the mid 1980’s was about £275k and I know it sold about three years ago for £24m. The best road (name I cannot remember) was s little way off and threaded round towards Primrose Hill. The US ambassador lived there and armed guards in sentry boxes patrolled the gardens.

SJW has a unique villager feel to it. But that’s all.

Mother87 · 11/08/2019 22:55

Also prefer Primrose Hill - not that i'm choosing a new place in eitherGrin

Al2O3 · 11/08/2019 22:56

In the newish flats behind the old barracks it was reputed David Bowie and Boy George owned an apartment each. SJW was jumping then.

NigellasGuest · 11/08/2019 22:58

Bill Nighy doesn't live in SJW

ohflowerofscotland · 11/08/2019 22:59

Primrose Hill also looks stunning! Seriously envious

Ellsworth’s Road, the one I couldn’t remember. Tree lined avenue, houses set back, wide drives, lots of rhododendron bushes etc. Never sunny even in summer, but a walk over the hill down to regents Park addressed that.

ohflowerofscotland · 11/08/2019 22:59

There isn't anywhere like SJW up in the North I don't think?

OP posts:
BettysLeftTentacle · 11/08/2019 23:01

I’ve lived very close to there. It’s not my favourite.

Rachelover40 · 11/08/2019 23:04

It's a lovely area but like anywhere in London you can travel two streets away and be in a different world. I quite liked St John's Wood when I was younger, couldn't care less one way or the other now. Yes, house prices are enormous but do try Hampstead, NW3 and you'll be even more gobsmacked.

Maybe some parts of the Golden Triangle in Cheshire.

Quite a few possibilities here (most of which are Golden Triangle, no surprise there!):

Just saw a flat for sale in Hampstead priced at 2 million.. Shock

OP posts:
Lockheart · 11/08/2019 23:07

Come to West Hampstead, it's friendlier and cheaper (though still too much for me to buy!)

BettysLeftTentacle · 11/08/2019 23:07

I second NW3. That is my favourite.
