Victoire had been chosen (and is the only name dh and I agree on) and now I'm inclined to change it as I really don't want to people to think I got the idea from Harry Potter or to immediately think of Harry Potter when they meet dd. V annoyed. + I'm worried that over the coming years it will become a much more widely chosen name (something I'd like to avoid when it comes to dd2's name). AIBU?

Yes. The whole world doesn't read HP you know.

WanderingTrelawney · 03/08/2007 13:47

Not everyone has read the Harry Potter books and memorised every name in it.

You're only going to have people going "Ooohh! from the Harry Potter books?" if you call her Voldemort.

CharleeWeasley · 03/08/2007 13:47

It can't be worse than us Mrsfogi!

We went to collect our book at Midnight on the launch date and everyone kept asking us what DS2's name was and yes you guessed it it's Harry, we loved that name for ages even before \hp so i wasn't going to change it just becuase a character in a book had it!

MrsPuddleduck · 03/08/2007 14:00

I think you should stick with your choice.

I have no idea where Victoire fits into the whole Harry Potter thing - and probably wont have until it is on SkyPremier!

It's a lovely name.

motherinferior · 03/08/2007 14:01

That would be a yes.

If you'd wanted to call her Voldemort it might be different. Or even Voldemorticia.

motherinferior · 03/08/2007 14:02

And frankly it's not as if Victoire is a major character, is it.

stealthsquiggle · 03/08/2007 14:04

such a minor character that I don't think anyone is going to make the connection - now if you had chose Hermione that would be different

hermykne · 03/08/2007 14:06

mrsfogi
how do you think i feel - hermione is my name, and i was born long before HP, but how many dah brains say oh the girl in harry potter to me!! immense

thats probably why i never really got into the books.
my name is "mine"

stealthsquiggle · 03/08/2007 14:09

At least you stand a chance of people being able to pronounce your name now, hermykne (looking on the bright side ) - I know someone who called their DS Harry (a v. unfashionable name at the time) a few weeks before Prince Harry was born - she was not amused when Charles&Di pinched "her" name

Gizmo · 03/08/2007 14:10

Well, on the bright side, though, Hermykne, at least

a) at long last people will be able to spell it
b) people will assume you are rather younger than you are...

NAB3 · 03/08/2007 14:10

How do you pronounce the name?

Gizmo · 03/08/2007 14:11

Her-my-o-knee

Or (said quickly) Her-my-knee

Stress on my.

expatinscotland · 03/08/2007 14:12

How about Ginevra then?

RosaLuxembourg · 03/08/2007 14:13

Hermy - one.
Harmani
Hermy - own

All versions I have heard.

I pronounce it Her my oh nee.

Gizmo · 03/08/2007 14:15

RL

Not that I want to out you you understand, but is this from personal experience??

RosaLuxembourg · 03/08/2007 14:19

No Gizmo - not me, a friend.

But I wantonly gave DD3 an Irish name which is also difficult to pronounce (and spell) and was rather pleased when a certain Saturday night talent search show had a contestant of that name - suddenly people are a lot more familiar with it!

stealthsquiggle · 03/08/2007 14:21

Actually I really like Ginny-short-for-Ginevra - shame we have no plans for more DC!!

NAB3 · 03/08/2007 14:24

I Meant Victoire.

beansprout · 03/08/2007 14:26

Vic-twah?

RosaLuxembourg · 03/08/2007 14:26

Oh sorry NAB

Vick twar

motherinferior · 03/08/2007 14:33

I quite like Voldemorticia.

Gizmo · 03/08/2007 14:34

Vick-twar

Now there's a name that sounds better than it looks...

expatinscotland · 03/08/2007 14:41

She has some other good ones!

How about: Lavender, Pansy, Ariana, Bathilda, Emmeline, Charity, Bellatrix, Alecta, Arabella?

Gizmo · 03/08/2007 14:47

Tortington · 03/08/2007 15:08
