Thanks Boris.

We are in France this week- it’s cost us over 80 quid to fill the car and our food shops are extortionate. A bag of oranges was nearly £5 and it cost £50 for three of us to go to the waterpark. A Belgian family there said that they have just come back from Britain and stocked up on shoes, clothes and even Christmas presents for their family because the euro to sterling exchange rate is now so good (for them, not for us).
Everything seems so much more expensive than this time last year- is this what we are to expect now?

Living the brexit - brink dream 🙄

Cottonwoolsnowmen, thank you for pointing out that “great” in the name Great Britain means big, not wonderful. You are spot on – how does our education system not tell us what our own country's name means?!

But it's not because we are the biggest of these islands. For centuries the language of the English ruling class was French. In French, the name Bretagne refers to that part of France (called Brittany in English) inhabited by people of (5th century) British descent. So our island was called Grande Bretagne to distinguish the two. Later this was officially adopted as the name for the union of England and Scotland.

There has been the same differences in the Pound verses the Euro before. If like me you watch currency you would know this. The Pound is still stronger than the Euro.

Thanks Wendy for explaining Great. I couldn’t be arsed. Although did find it amusing that Cotton was incorrect in her explanation.

YABU to be shocked, this was an inevitability since Brexit shambles started!

Saddler · 04/08/2019 23:38

A small price to pay.

@Saddler

For what? Turning us into an international laughing stock? Maybe it's blue passports you're talking about (that we could always have had) or you're in the 'serves middle class people right for wanting to go on holiday, they should be using food banks', camp?
