We are going on a trip to France with a large number of children and a few adults. We return on October 31st- quite late in the evening. ( the day we leave Europe- maybe?)
Will we have border controls? Will we be stuck in the channel for ever? ( France won't want us back after 5 days of us!)

( semi-lighthearted!)

You’ll be stuck in the channel forever. Take sandwiches.

MrsMonkeyBear · 01/08/2019 21:24

Yup. Pack extra tea bags.

cardibach · 01/08/2019 21:48

As I understand it, if leaving day is 31st it won’t be until midnight. You’ll be fine. (But take sandwiches anyway).

CleverLoginName · 01/08/2019 21:50

Its 11pm UK time I believe. Anyway the world isn't going to end - ignite project fear

StCharlotte · 01/08/2019 21:51

Wasn't it 11pm for 29th March?

Take spare pants OP.

Sparklesocks · 01/08/2019 21:52

It’s tricky isn’t it because nobody knows exactly what it’s going to look like, I don’t really know what to suggest because we just don’t know (and anyone who says they know is probably talking bollocks at this point!). No practical advice but good luck and hopefully it’s as smooth as possible.

shieldmaidenofrohan · 01/08/2019 21:53

I would be worried op, i specifically chose flights to Athens in half term to ensure we were back before brexit day.
I don't have any advice though soz

Heratnumber7 · 01/08/2019 21:54

You'll be able to get in via the invisible border between U.K. and Ireland Grin

Chloemol · 01/08/2019 21:59

BET it’s the same as the last supposed leaving day, a three month time span where everything stays the same until new controls come in

pollyhampton · 01/08/2019 22:02

We land from Spain at 2300 on the 31st...considering how Brexit has gone so far I am not remotely worried about getting home!

Moonflower12 · 01/08/2019 22:07

I will pack looottts of pants! And biscuits and tea.
This trip has been arranged for about a year so we weren't aware of the significance of the date- except it was Halloween 🎃 and we wouldn't be back for trick or treating! ( Which was a Major worry to lots of the children! ).

We need to take extra DVDs don't we? We might be a while.... Any suggestions?

Take boiled eggs, you know your mother always took boiled eggs.

StCharlotte · 01/08/2019 22:10

Life of Pi?
Titanic?
The Poseidon Adventure?

Moonflower12 · 01/08/2019 22:13

@plasterboots
She bloody did! Hahaha

You've caused a flashback! being on a ferry headed to France with my mum getting her Tupperware out of her Gladstone bag- filled with boiled eggs. ( the Tupperware not the bag!).

@StCharlotte

Good choices!
53 6-8 year olds and The Poseidon Adventure. What could go wrong? 😳

ginswinger · 01/08/2019 22:23

I'd be more worried about going with a large group of children and only a few adults. You know you shouldn't let them outnumber you right?

No clue about what will happen on 1st November, chuffing chaos if you ask me but Brexit means Brexit right so let's steam on into the backend of wazzock and rely on someone who's been in the job but three months to dig us out.

Mamamia456 · 01/08/2019 22:25

I'm intrigued Moonflower 12 - are the 6-8 year olds going without their parents, and how long for. Just being nosy!

NCforthis2019 · 01/08/2019 22:34

Yup. Build a spare boat. Pack oars. Tinned food. Extra sheets. Tea. Don’t forget tea 😱🙄

plasterboots · 01/08/2019 22:39

@Moonflower12 told you so! Mine was in the ferry to Ireland, the Irish Sea is a rough bastard and I suffered dreadful sea sickness! I've no idea why I still like eggs. Grin

edwinbear · 01/08/2019 22:49

I remember everyone on MN telling me I was an idiot for booking DS on the school ski trip leaving on 30th March or whenever the last date was. It worked out fine Grin

noodlenosefraggle · 01/08/2019 22:54

Buy one way tickets and wait to be deported free? Wink

plasterboots · 01/08/2019 22:56

^^this

abitoflight · 01/08/2019 22:58

You may be on the news!
But in all likelihood all will be well
You may have to queue but I doubt anything more than that

noodlenosefraggle · 01/08/2019 23:20

Where the hell have you got 53 6-8year olds from? Are you secretly planning a new civilisation somewhere?

PancakeAndKeith · 01/08/2019 23:24

Where the hell have you got 53 6-8year olds from?

Moreover why would you take them to France. It’s going to be like herding cats.
