We are going on a trip to France with a large number of children and a few adults. We return on October 31st- quite late in the evening. ( the day we leave Europe- maybe?)
Will we have border controls? Will we be stuck in the channel for ever? ( France won't want us back after 5 days of us!)

( semi-lighthearted!)

My dear old Dad wouldn't step off British soil without emergency rations of cream crackers and cheddar cheese.

Better be safe than sorry Grin

Chartreuser · 03/08/2019 19:50

Thanks, I best pack all the teabags just in case, I can cope with many, many things, but not a lack of decent tea

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/08/2019 19:55

Fab!
It's a deal Grin

StCharlotte · 04/08/2019 01:11

I've been to Mont St Michel so I can help with storming as I know my way around. I say that, we went after a visit to a cider farm near Erquy... Confused

EileenAlanna · 04/08/2019 01:26

Bring inflatable armbands & lots of rope to lash the children together into a makeshift raft & you & the other grownups paddle it back over the Channel. Easy peasy.

Chartreuser · 04/08/2019 07:57

StCharlotte you have triggered an awful flashback.

I was 14, at a cider festival in Brittany, DSM caught short and decided to pee by a tree (it was dark). Started, realised she was in a car park as she heard a family get into a car in front of her. Her pelvic floor shot so just decided to wave when the car headlights lit her up full flow . . .

MarieVanGoethem · 04/08/2019 08:21

If you’re not from somewhere that does Gang Shows/the little ones don’t get to take part you need to get them to learn Crest Of A Wave; if they already know it, time to polish it up...

And, er, Bon Courage...

Moonflower12 · 04/08/2019 09:52

@StCharlotte
@Chartreuser

Are we taking cider with us? It goes well with pork pies?

I too have a cider farm flashback involving weeing in car park/ field. My friend and I chose to have a wee on our way back to the car. In a field filled with 200+ cars. We chose the only car that was leaving at that second. Cue us holding on to their bumper for steadiness as the headlights came on as we're mid wee!

@EileenAlanna - that is an amazing idea. You're invited too, in charge of inventiness!

@MarieVanGoethem
Please come too. You can be in charge of morale.

It's going to be quite crowded!

Moonflower12 · 04/08/2019 09:57

@SilverySurfer
You too. If you bring the crackers and cheese. You can be in charge of catering ( not the pork pies- they're mine!)

I don’t want to exploit people’s misfortune but would this be a good time to do out some vintage Tupperware and put it on EBay?!

MarieVanGoethem · 04/08/2019 10:11

Errrrr, thanks for that but I may be... herding my Brownies somewhere less stressful?

TBH I’m still not fully recovered from cooking for Cub camps as a Young Leader. And despite confusion in many parts (including being ID’d when buying new - admittedly sharp - scissors for Brownies last summer) I am a long way past that now! (Pity, because I’m quite coveting the new hoodie...)

Moonflower12 · 04/08/2019 10:53

@MarieVanGoethem
The offer is open, should you change your mind!

I was a guider for 20 odd years and have only very recently gone over to the 'Dark side' Smile( joking).

We don't have GGUK in our rather rural village and there's not enough girls to support a unit so as my DD joined Beavers so did I! It's very different but good fun.

Bring the Brownies! They'll love it.

@PostNotInHaste

Oh yes- it's recycling! We can use Tupperware for baling (sp?)

In the event of emergency I suggest heading for the nearest hypermarket. I reckon you could survive in one unnoticed until things have settled down. Plus, delicious wine and snacks on tap.

H2OH20Everywhere · 04/08/2019 11:16

Surely the best idea would be to get them all through their swimmers badge now, and get them up to 10 miles. You have just under three months, so surely that's possible? Aim for the Cotentin Peninsula in Normandy, and swim across to Alderney. Then you're on British soil.

Easy!

As for substinence, can I suggest lashings and lashings of ginger beer, pemmican, green eggs and ham and Turkish Delight. That should keep you all going.

Aragog · 04/08/2019 11:24

We fly back from Italy On the evening of the 31st. Think we land around 10:30pm though who knows with delays etc.

I don't care. Chances of not being allowed back in to the UK are fairly unlikely tbh. I'll manage with a delay in a nice warm climate if necessary.

Seriously though a there's no point in worrying. It won't change anything and I refuse to put my life on hold for the duration this whole mess has been going on. I've booked and been in several trips and holidays since it started and not stopping now.

Moonflower12 · 04/08/2019 19:12

@WrongKindOfFace
We shall do that- prior to the storming. Deliciousness will be needed.

@Aragog

If you by some fluke aren't allowed back into the country feel free to join us on MStM.

( We are not really worried about Re- entering the country..... or are we?)

dimsum123 · 04/08/2019 19:17

If you get stuck over there just start a new life in France and completely avoid the quagmire that the rest of us will be drowning in after Halloween.

Aragog · 04/08/2019 20:04

Thanks for the invite.

Tbh it sounds like it'd be better than returning to mainline England after that date anyway!

StCharlotte · 04/08/2019 22:12

Suggest we keep Tupperware for the cider drinkers to wee in. Worst case scenario, we can always drink it (I have special drugs which processes stuff via my kidneys so mine will be almost neat cider. Recycle, re-use etc.)

CountFosco · 05/08/2019 20:40

We're definitely up for MstM storming. DS (7) will take his lightsabre and DH speaks passable French (mine is more 'Je m'appelle CountFosco, je suis écossaise, j'ai douze ans'. Might need to update that last bit). I'll stock up on pizza before we leave Italy.

Moonflower12 · 06/08/2019 00:03

It's looking good. @CountFosco- yes, unless you had DS at 5 , you might need to update that bit!
Lightsabers might be the way forward for the weapons of choice for storming!
@StCharlotte - excellent idea. You can be in charge of the Wee!
@Aragog - excellent. The more the merrier.
@dimsum123 - feel free to join us!
