Is it physically possible to loose a stone in 30 days?

Or near a stone?

I'm about a size 12/14 and probably carrying an extra stone than what I consider myself comfortable with. I'm late 20s and have a big event coming up and would like to feel my best and hopefully kickstart my fitness and wellbeing back to what it used to be pre DCs as its been years and I feel stuck in a rut and hate looking in the mirror. I don't see the person I feel I am/can be.

I'm physically healthy and able to exercise /walk and so on. I'd like to tone up my arms and thighs and loose the extra fat that's around my sides and belly.

At the moment I do a dance exercise class once a week for an hour but not much apart from that, I could potentially carve out an evening or two a week to do more. (Also could do something at home when DC is napping?). But not sure what's effective.

Has anyone achieved this? Anyone has any tips on what the best exercise or method is?
I'm considering a calorie controlled diet.

AIBU and completely unrealistic?

Yep - sticking to any diet strictly (particularly low carb ish) you should be able to lose at least 3/4lb each week 😊

TwistyTop · 30/07/2019 10:30

You might struggle to lose a whole stone because you're not that big. The bigger you are, the quicker you lose.

As pp said just stick religiously to whatever diet you are doing. I find 5:2 really helpful when I need to lose weight fast.

Jemima232 · 30/07/2019 10:31

Not at all unrealistic.

It depends on your metabolism but I would recommend the 16:8 and avoiding potatoes, bread, pasta and rice.

I actually lost a stone in a week doing this. My body was so surprised that it wasn't being fed crap all day long that it rewarded me.

Mind you that was water weight...……...but gradually I started to lose more and kept it off.

Good luck.

jaseyraex · 30/07/2019 10:33

I did the keto diet and lost just over a stone in a month. I did that along with some of Joe Wicks bodycoach workouts on YouTube at home 5 times a week. I find them really good as he has different levels on there for your fitness and of course they're free and you can do them whenever you get the time.

WWMND · 30/07/2019 10:34

I was slightly bigger than you 14/16 last year and lost a stone in the first month.
I made an effort to drink 3litres of water a day, cut out sweets and fizzy juice and ate my dinner on a smaller plate (I have a problem with portion control Blush)
I hate the gym but I got Gillian Michaels 30 day shred and tried to do it every day, think I missed 3 days! Weighloss did slow after the first month and now a year later I've nearly put it all back on 🙈
Good luck OP!

tomtom1999xx · 30/07/2019 10:35

It’s achievable yes. I’ve done it.

AskMeHow · 30/07/2019 10:35

Entirely possible. But try and stick to as normal a diet as possible, just smaller portions and fill up on salad/as many vegetables as you can stand. Don't be fooled by any fad diets, as soon as you start to eat normally again the weight will creep back on.

Blue565 · 30/07/2019 10:35

If you do 5:2 and you are notoriously strict with your intake the non fasting days (say 1700 - 1900 calories) then yes quite possible.

StillRunningWithScissors · 30/07/2019 10:36

If you look at doing HIIT, I find it helps tone your muscles in a decent amount of time. This results in looking better/not wobbly.
Jillian Michaels dvds (might find some workouts on YouTube) are brilliant. 30 day shred is a good one to start with.

Lndnmummy · 30/07/2019 10:36

Absolutely! Come and join us on the blood sugar diet thread. The ladies there are awesome! I have lost 2st now and have another 5kg to go

MorrisZapp · 30/07/2019 10:37

Yup, there's no particular genius to it, you just eat much less and if you can, do loads of cardio. Running on the machine at the gym twice a week works for me. You'll get a great loss the first week, and smaller losses thereafter.

MeanMrMustardSeed · 30/07/2019 10:37

Yes - follow Dr Michael Moseley’s fast 800 and you’ll manage it and be a lot healthier.

Gingerbreadsonme · 30/07/2019 10:39

You could certainly make a good dint in a stone in a month! Although be wary of crash type diets, because the weight is likely just to come back on. So try to change your eating habits in a sustainable way. I’m in a similar boat to you, had about stone and a half to lose. I’ve lost 8lbs in a month by sticking to 1500 calories a day, and getting a decent run in when I can. So not killing myself, but trying to improve my habits. I’ve still got a stone to lose, but feel like I can carry on like this indefinitely, so hopefully I’ll get the rest of the weight off and keep it off!

I’m just aiming for being more mindful about what I eat (and crucially, drink!) and to exercise more.

needsome · 30/07/2019 10:39

Wow @Jemima232 that's amazing ! Just googled water weight and it's interesting.

I don't drink enough water so aiming to top that up. Also I'm terrible at eating veggies (won't touch salad/raw) and I know for a fact I have too many carbs with my protein as a result.
I'm trying to think of how I can make the veg that I do eat tastier so I can have more with my meals, I know myself that if I have e.g. just plain green beans I have to force myself to eat them because I don't particularly like the taste.

I'm also trying to get rid of snacks because if they're there I know I will eat them Blush

Another vote for Jillian Michaels and her 30 Day Shred. Combine with reasonable calories (not ridiculously low!) and you can definitely do it!

Gingerbreadsonme · 30/07/2019 10:40

And I should have said, I look WAY better for it - because the running is toning up my thighs and waist, even though I’ve only lost 8lbs. Good luck!

81Byerley · 30/07/2019 10:46

How tall are you? 12-14 seems like a perfectly fine size for most people.

overnightangel · 30/07/2019 10:51

Drink a pint of water before each meal, you’ll feel fuller

bingbongnoise · 30/07/2019 10:52

@needsome

I would say so, (if it's for wedding or a holiday or something, you can probably just be superstrict and do some jogging and swimming!)

But it won't STAY off, because it's too fast a weight-loss. I am guessing your body has not GAINED a stone in a month? Like ever?

lastqueenofscotland · 30/07/2019 10:53

Maybe, if you contracted cholera.

bingbongnoise · 30/07/2019 10:53

Also echoing the people saying you sound OK as you are. Smile

Bluetit101 · 30/07/2019 10:55

I follow Slimming World and lost 5.5lb in my first week so definitely possible Smile

NotDavidTennant · 30/07/2019 10:57

It's much better to make small lasting changes to your lifestyle than putting yourself on a crash diet to achieve a short-term weight goal that you won't be able to sustain.

GodolphianArabian · 30/07/2019 10:59

Another who used Michael Moseley blood sugar diet. I lost 17 pounds in 4 weeks. But if you're not keen on veg I'm not quite sure what you would eat.

Do you like roast veg? I eat lots of that roast aubergine, courgette, peppers, onion then I usually add goats cheese or chicken. Really tasty! Plain green beans on the other hand are just a bit meh!

Butters83 · 30/07/2019 11:00

You can, but at massive cost to your physical and mental health. And you will just put the weight back on.
