Staying with a friend.

I can't even.

Do I fix it?

Do I tell them how wrong this is?

Do I end the friendship?

If DP did this I'd obviously LTB.

Unless... am I wrong? Have I been doing this wrong all my life?

SEND HELP.

(Lighthearted, obvs)

Judging by the marks on the roll, someone thinks it is safer to have it that way round - saving the next piece to be used from being peed on by the men of the house...

MonroeM · 29/07/2019 10:44

One family member insists this is the right way to hang a toilet roll. She must be sick of people telling her it is wrong and she asked why it should be the other way.

How would you explain why it is wrong? This should be interesting.

ThatCurlyGirl · 29/07/2019 10:44

@StCharlotte

You're right, forest skills like lighting fires were never my forte at Guides.

Of course at least then Guides had safe spaces in which to try such skills...

We have a free standing holder where the rolls sit on their side - no craziness here with silly loo roll directions

It is precisely this kind of devil-may-care attitude which lost us the British Empire.

ThatCurlyGirl · 29/07/2019 10:46

Ps it's a camera mark in the photo, but I can't fix it because DP will quiz me on why I've got a new phone and I'm already walking on eggshells with him.

My mother did this in my bathroom recently, almost had a heart attack the next time I went to pee, ruined my toilet time.
I would leave and tell her exactly why. You just can't have people like that in your life.

Brefugee · 29/07/2019 10:47

yeah well, that is harmless, I tell ya.
I went to the loo once at work and found this (BE CAREFUL)

What fresh hell is this?!
Brefugee · 29/07/2019 10:48

at least it was the right way round...

ThatCurlyGirl · 29/07/2019 10:48

@MarianaMoatedGrange

It's basically a wall mounted Brexit isn't it, I remember when people used to give a fuck about others instead of being so selfish as displayed in my OP.

You resigned on the spot, right?

ThatCurlyGirl · 29/07/2019 10:50

@Brefugee

Hope you don't mind but I'm going to report your post to mumsnet just because there's no trigger warning and I would feel responsible if anyone on my thread is affected by your picture.

Sending you love and light Thanks

Bloody hell I’m nearly 60 and had no idea there was a right and a wrong way to hang bog roll. I’m so lucky my family and friends have been able to somehow overlook this dreadful faux pas. The thing is I’m tryIng to bring to mind how they hang theirs’ and I just can’t summon up any images of their holders to mind. I’m now concerned I might have the beginnings of dementia as well as being horribly ignorant about loo roll etiquette.

Lilyofthefields · 29/07/2019 10:51

Don’t blame your friend. Some toilet rolls just come out of the pack like this, with the paper going the wrong way. Not sure how they get through quality control, but there you go.

ThatCurlyGirl · 29/07/2019 10:52

I would go and use the supermarket loo instead but usually at this time the only spaces available are parent and child ones and I just can't deal with any CFs using them when they're perfectly capable of parking elsewhere.

Fucking hell. Is this our life now? I'd resigned myself to surviving on only UK grown turnips, being laughed at by forrins when I attempted to travel to Europe etc; but this?

Ated · 29/07/2019 10:55

Have you checked that it really is your friend. Peel back the skin on their face, they may be aliens.

S1naidSucks · 29/07/2019 10:55

I see it didn’t take long for the TRA (Toilet Rights Activists) brigade to arrive. Hmm Making excuses for wrongly hung toilet rolls to be in right thinking Mumnetter’s loos. Just because you have mythical thinking and believe that the toilet roll has right to identify as hanging correctly, doesn’t make it so!

MissKittyBeaudelais · 29/07/2019 10:56

Oh God, help me with my shame. I do this. I actually do “under” and every time DH changes it to over, I switch it bag. Do you think he’ll still love me?

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 29/07/2019 10:57

If I were PM, I would set up a national task force to go around all households and public buildings and check for compliance.

Anybody hanging it the illegal way (as in the pic), would not be hauled through the courts as I would be a passive aggressive benevolent dictator leader; however, my ground troops would be under strict instructions to remove all traces of standard toilet tissue from guilty households and to replace it, roll for roll, with finest Bronco brand product - that hard, shiny stuff we used to have in schools (like the tracing paper, but harder and rougher) that was designed to deflect and smear, ripping delicate skin as it goes, rather than absorb and collect whilst furnishing soft comfort and relief.

If people choose to behave like base animals, they have no place in decent human society; neither do they deserve to maintain soft, clean, unshredded posteriors. They know what they're doing and they've made their perverse choice.

MarianaMoatedGrange · 29/07/2019 10:59

S1naidSucks

This is what I feared most about self ID in our loos.

gymraes · 29/07/2019 11:00

Pee pressure..?! Who gives a ..pee?!

You've been brave and seen that this is troubling behaviour, that's the first step.

Can you call Relate and ask for a counselling session? You don't want to bring up something so hurtful without some professional help.

Sorry to say OP but if it was your DH doing this to you then you'd be told to LTB. Bloody mumsnet double standards.

The op’s pic shows a toilet (not loo! Hmm) roll the RIGHT way round. However my DC put it on (if they can be bothered) the other way round. I’ve given up changing it and have now reached a zen state where I don’t actually mind which way it is. I must be the only person in the country with this carefree attitude. Free yourselves! :o
