I decided to experiment with what I’ve got in the house and it’s amazing! My new favourite drink. Is it a thing already or have I invented something great?

Someone’s going to say it’s just sangria without the fruit, aren’t they

Pretty sure it's already a thing, sorry. It is lovely!

WhenPushComesToShove · 25/07/2019 20:36

I don't think I've ever heard of it before but I'm happy to hear you are enjoying it!

Spam88 · 25/07/2019 20:37

Well if white wine spritzers are a thing, don't see why red wine spritzers can't be!

MegaMonsterMunch · 25/07/2019 20:37

Tinto de verano or something similar. It's not given the credit it deserves.

Gustavo1 · 25/07/2019 20:38

In Spain it’s a Tinto de Verano. Summer red. Deliciously refreshing way to drink red in summer Grin

cheeseislife8 · 25/07/2019 20:39

Ooh that sounds nice! immediately checks for lemonade in the kitchen

Julykthat · 25/07/2019 20:40

In 1990 I worked in a pub in the alps and the boss drank red wine mixed with lemonade all the time. She was pretty cool too. Go for it!

Cheeringmeup · 25/07/2019 20:41

I'm just off to put some wee cans of lemonade in the fridge - sounds lovely Wine

MeganChips · 25/07/2019 20:45

Well regardless, you have just inspired me to make one of these OP and it’s very nice!

Yambabe · 25/07/2019 20:45

It's even nicer if you use fizzy orange rather than lemonade Smile

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 25/07/2019 20:46

You've inspired me to buy some red wine tomorrow to try this!

ghostyslovesheets · 25/07/2019 20:46

Just put the red wine in the fridge - it can be drunk chilled!

Some regions of Spain mix it with coke in hot weather

Mammyloveswine · 25/07/2019 20:48

Red mixed with Diet Coke is popular in my slimming world group...

TheFridgeRaider · 25/07/2019 20:48

And you can freeze some grapes to use instead of ice cubes so it doesn't water down the drink. I have always few ready in a freezer😁

minou123 · 25/07/2019 20:48

Very nice.

What is even better, is equal parts of red wine and coke. It's called a kalimotxo.

Very popular amongst the teenagers of Spain. I may or may not have enjoyed a small sip of this on a beach in spain, in my youth.....

Fibbke · 25/07/2019 20:48

The best way to do this is red wine, ice and san pellegrino blood orange fizz

feellikeanalien · 25/07/2019 20:50

I now have an urge to be sitting in a bar in the Costa de la Luz with a very large glass of tinto de verano and several plates of tapas.

Technically I think it is a combination of red wine and gaseosa which is slightly different to lemonade and which I've never been able to find here.

AquaPris · 25/07/2019 20:52

We call it summer wine. An Italian friend taught us. It's even better with Fanta lemon

AquaPris · 25/07/2019 20:53

I mix it with coke in winter - a Tunisian man showed me that and called it winter sangria

tealandteal · 25/07/2019 20:54

I read this as red wine, lemonade and ice cream. Very confused why no one else mentioned the ice cream!

Notmybloodymonkeys · 25/07/2019 20:55

@feellikeanalien that's precisely what I'll be doing at the weekend!

I live in Spain and a big glass of tinto de verano makes our long hot summer days much more bearable!

raspberryk · 25/07/2019 20:55

Sounds like a waste of good wine to me. I can't imagine I'd like it, especially not with coke or foxxy orange. Bleuck.

Patroclus · 25/07/2019 20:55

I tried making roman wine today and its bloody beautiful.

Put lots of honey and wine in pan and dissolve it then add peppercorns, fennel seeds (a lot) and 2 bay leaves. I also added 2 spoonfuls of jam in place of 2 dates. Heat it up to near boiling then stop. Add about 300ml of nice water and heat up to near boiling again and stop. Leave it for a few hours then filter it.

Patroclus · 25/07/2019 20:57

And yeah isnt that just a spritzer but with red wine instead of white?
