To have mixed myself a red wine, lemonade and ice

I decided to experiment with what I’ve got in the house and it’s amazing! My new favourite drink. Is it a thing already or have I invented something great?

I want to try all of these combinations. Even the ice cream sounds good but that might just be because it’s still insanely hot

Dismayed to see that nearly half of you think I’m unreasonable Shock

What proportions do you make it in? 50:50? I can’t wait to have one!

theunrivalledjoysofparenting · 25/07/2019 20:58

Sounds good!

Dolphinia · 25/07/2019 21:00

Yeah I think it was roughly 50/50

Feellikeanalien you're right gaseosa is the thing. You can buy it online from a company that imports Spanish stuff but I always balk at the price.

Will be in Spain this time tomorrow so I'll have one and toast you all!

PunishmentSnart · 25/07/2019 21:05

I came on to say add Fanta and it’s summer wine and someone beat me to it!
Someone taught us about that in Madrid watching the football - some lovely drunk memories there Grin
I LOVE red wine with coke - most bar staff look at me like I’m mad when I order it though!

AnneKipanki · 25/07/2019 21:25

I think red wine and coke ( drink ) is popular

Dolphinia · 25/07/2019 21:42

@Patroclus that recipe sounds bloody amazing! Definitely making that!

Not keen on lemonade in alcoholic drinks.

I wonder if red wine and tonic might work. 🤔

Cocobeanstalk · 25/07/2019 21:47

Is this serious !? I’m 24 and drink this weekly .. I thought everyone knew you could do this

Hoppinggreen · 25/07/2019 21:50

Yep, Tinto de verano ( summer red wine)
You can buy cans of it in Spanish supermarkets

Belindabelle · 25/07/2019 21:55

I love a red wine and coke. DH hates it when I use the good red.

QOD · 25/07/2019 21:57

@minou123 I was just coming to say about red wine and Diet Coke!
If I’ve bought or been given a nasty red, I mix it with Diet Coke rather than pour it lol
I knew it was ‘a drink’ not just me being weird but everyone argues with me lol

CasperGutman · 25/07/2019 22:05

Sounds like a waste of good wine to me.

You don't make it with good wine - I would have thought that was obvious!

Ideally you make it with the sort of rough plonk you buy from a truck in a market square in the Med, where they give you a discount for bringing your own bucket to put it in!

feellikeanalien · 25/07/2019 22:30

Notmybloodymonkeys and OhamIreally you've made me really jealous.

Have one (or a few) for me!!!

This is when I wonder why we actually did move back to the UK!!

icebearforpresident · 25/07/2019 22:39

I came home to a cold glass of orange, blackcurrant and lime cordials mixed with strawberry and kiwi water and a splash of southern comfort. My husband made it and it was gorgeous!

Are you me??? GrinGrin That's exactly what I do! No point wasting a nasty bottle of red.....mix in some diet coke and you're good to go.

My gran always said "waste not, want not"
(Not sure if she was talking about red wine, though Hmm)

QOD · 25/07/2019 22:50

@minou123 I know! I mean wines wine

I actually ONCE had some left over wine! I’d heard of it, but didn’t know where one got it from 😉

QOD · 25/07/2019 22:52

I’m actually currently into sugar free ice cream soda and I’ll mix it with anything lol
Even had a lager top last night hehe

azulmariposa · 25/07/2019 23:06

Haha no you haven't invented a new drink. In Spain it's called tinto de verano (summer wine). It's much cheaper than sangria, which is really more of a touristy drink.

If you used coke instead of lemonade it would be a calimocho/kalimotxo which is typically drunk in the basque region.

shinynewapple · 25/07/2019 23:21

I have this sometimes if we've only got red wine and I want a long drink. I pretend it's sangria Smile

GrinGrin

I also use horrible red wine for stews.
The rule was: one glass for the strew, one for me.
But soon, the rule changed to: one glass for the stew, 2 for me........
It all got a bit out of control and now I'm not allowed to make stew Confused

QOD · 26/07/2019 00:13

Hahahahaha
I won’t cook food with alcohol in it. Not since I discovered it evaporates. Criminal

OooErMissus · 26/07/2019 00:34

People, you're wasting an opportunity if you're using horrible red wine in your casseroles (and your tinto de veranda!).

If you wouldn't drink it, you shouldn't be cooking with it! The alcohol may evaporate, but the cheap, nasty taste doesn't. Wink
