To feel really down when the hot weather hits?

I know SAD is generally meant for cold weather but seriously, when the weather gets extra hot I really struggle.

It's a mixture of being uncomfortably hot and feeling like I'm the odd one out.

Everywhere you look everyone is out having fun and enjoying the sun and I'm sitting home hiding.

So, AIBU to wish for Autumn?! 🙈

YABU for wishing for Autumn!

I know how you feel, I get like that during the winter months and it feels awful. I look forward to the spring for months on end, I just can't cope with the cold.

NotQuitePerfect · 24/07/2019 17:51

With you all the way.
Longing for cool, crisp mornings, cosy evenings, and not having a house full of flies.
I think there are lots of us at home, hiding. I refuse to feel guilty about it Smile

dimsum123 · 24/07/2019 17:54

I like the warmth, but I'm also looking forward to autumn and not having a house full of flies and ants...Smile

Me too! It is like a weird FOMO - a feeling everyone else is enjoying it- I hate it too. Like it fresher. thankfully it is meant to be passing (and I get cross when DH says I am negative about it, like I 'should' be enjoying it).

i love the half way seasons- Spring and Autumn, the best. Don't enjoy the stress of Christmas either!

Physically it makes my head hurt, i hate sweating, and feel trapped.

Aprilsinparis · 24/07/2019 17:59

I absolutely hate the Summer.
You can't sleep at night.
I use loads of fly spray.
I feel constantly hot and sticky.
Food doesn't stay fresh for long.
No energy.
I hate Summer, the only good thing about it is, your washing is dry in no time.
In the name of God, and all that's Holy, Winter can't come soon enough.

Treaclepie19 · 24/07/2019 18:00

Ahh thank goodness I'm not alone!
It definitely is a FOMO thing. It makes me feel strange for not enjoying it.

Tomorrow I shall definitely be hiding away with a fan on me!

And it's going to get hotter😠

TheShuttle · 24/07/2019 18:01

I'm struggling along with you TreaclePie. It's been about 38° for much of the last month and I am totally fed up. Can't cook or eat, can't go for a walk, can't do any normal activities. Too hot to move indoors & any movement raises the temperature further. Can't wait for this to pass.

user87382294757 · 24/07/2019 18:03

I think in most places it is just one more day- Friday much cooler. and from then on as well. Fingers crossed.

user87382294757 · 24/07/2019 18:03

We are in a top flat and it is awful.

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 24/07/2019 18:04

I'm the opposite, the winter makes my arthritis really bad and I cannot get warm enough or comfortable. I'm a bit sad when I miss out on things though, I've been working all week so haven't been the park/water balloons etc that everyone else seems to have enjoyed.

Jellystars · 24/07/2019 18:04

I get stressed that I’m wasting time if I’m not out and trying to enjoy it. I don’t have a garden so I feel like I have to go somewhere then end up with that uncomfortable feeling.

JuniperSling · 24/07/2019 18:09

I feel exactly the same, but I know that when it's winter, I'll be wishing for the sunny weather again. I'm just never satisfied!

MrsBungle · 24/07/2019 18:13

I’m totally with you. I’m in such a bad mood. I detest being this hot and the flies are driving me insane Sad

Spudlet · 24/07/2019 18:13

I like summer, but it’s a good 10 degrees too hot for my liking right now. We were in Wales last week and it was about 25 - perfect, just nice for the beach and a quick paddle / dip in the sea without feeling like you’ve been microwaved. Today feels like an endurance test, with a three year old to try and keep happy but also non-frazzled to a crisp! I have a fan going but it’s just blowing hot air around 😖 I can’t find anywhere that feels a comfortable temperature in the whole house.

The80sweregreat · 24/07/2019 18:18

I hate this heat. I want it to go away.
I'm a sweaty heap of tired nothingness and I just want to lie in cold water.
I want it to just F off!

JustDanceAddict · 24/07/2019 18:19

This is too hot. I haven’t had to leave the house today so I haven’t, but don’t want to feel like a prisoner!!
Will try and find some air con tmw

likeafishneedsabike · 24/07/2019 18:22

Oh, anything above 25 degrees is to be endured rather than enjoyed. You are not alone, and you’re not missing out either (unless getting a roasting is something you want a piece of).

LucheroTena · 24/07/2019 18:25

It’s like being in a microwave, the humidity is a killer

Hithere12 · 24/07/2019 18:38

Also housing in a traditionally cold country like UK is built to keep heat in. So it’s much worse when we get a heatwave.

The80sweregreat · 24/07/2019 18:38

I'm Called names by the ' I love it hot ' brigade.
They think I'm mad but I've found my people here! I feel so depressed and unhappy.
I want to feel cold again.

MLMhun · 24/07/2019 18:41

Every year the same 😂 a few days of hot weather and the “I want Cosy autumn” brigade bleat!

It’s like that most of the bloody year, stop being so miserable lol!

The80sweregreat · 24/07/2019 18:43

It's too hot! I want to go somewhere cold but I can't!
It makes me feel ill.

Treaclepie19 · 24/07/2019 18:45

I've found my people! I'm sorry you're all struggling too. Passes the ice lollies and fans
We can do this, not much more of this crazy heat to go.

@MLMhun yes, and in winter the same happens in reverse. Your post is exactly the attitude that makes me feel down.
I don't enjoy the heat, it makes me feel unwell. The whole point of my post is that it's making me "miserable"

Yanbu in the slightest.
This heat is fucking disgusting.
I’ve just been upstairs, and even though I’ve taken every measure to try and keep the bedrooms as cool as I can, DD (4) and DS (2)’s rooms are still like ovens.
I’m 32 weeks pregnant and just about ready to chuck myself off the nearest cliff in the hope that there might be cold water at the bottom. Hmm
And tomorrow is meant to be even hotter.
Oh the joy Hmm
