To feel really down when the hot weather hits?

Treaclepie19 · 24/07/2019 17:46

I know SAD is generally meant for cold weather but seriously, when the weather gets extra hot I really struggle.

It's a mixture of being uncomfortably hot and feeling like I'm the odd one out.

Everywhere you look everyone is out having fun and enjoying the sun and I'm sitting home hiding.

So, AIBU to wish for Autumn?! 🙈

It's unbearable for me. I'm perimenopausal and I'm too hot all the time as it is. I also live in a top floor flat in an old building, and when there's no breeze there's no respite. I haven't slept much this week and then I have that feeling that I ought to be outside "enjoying" the sun. Well, I'm not gonna, so there. I feel enervated and depressed, and I can't even get on with my hobby because it involves having a lot of fabric draped over my lap and it's just too bloody hot for that!

whiteroseredrose · 24/07/2019 18:55

Can I join in? Can't get comfortable, can't sleep.

thedayofthethreeMagnums · 24/07/2019 19:00

It doesn't last in this country, so it's only a few days whilst the rest of us have to be miserable for months or grey/grim/damp/depressing weather.

I used to put my feet in a cold bucket of water when I was pregnant and needed to cool down.

I do feel really sorry for the people who can't open their windows at night, it really cool the house down. I hope real shutters will start being fashionable in this country, they are so helpful for most weathers!

Funnyface1 · 24/07/2019 19:01

It's awful, I'm melting, can't stand it much longer. Genuinely very miserable, can't wait for it cool off a bit, 20 will do.

Widowodiw · 24/07/2019 19:03

It is far to hot especially when your
Off trying to entertain children who don’t do heat well.
But im resigned to the fact of being a big sweaty mess, just going with the flow and getting on with it.

codenameduchess · 24/07/2019 19:04

I'm with you! Can't bear being too hot and the insects make me feel on edge, angry and physically sick. I'm sweaty and miserable... im also pregnant right now so extra hot and miserable.

I hate hate hate bugs! Flies, bees, wasps, ants- they're everywhere! This invasion of tiny black flies is awful, every surface is covered in them, I'm covered in them and itchy.

I don't enjoy being out in the sun but feel guilty that I'm not out 'enjoying' it like everyone else seems desperate to do. Happy hiding indoors with a fan and ice lollies 😋

recklessruby · 24/07/2019 19:05

Yanbu i hate it too. Cant sleep and the neighbours are all noisy and smelly with bbqs. I hate flies yuk.
Hate sweating like a zoo animal and going bright red. I m fair with freckles so you can imagine how my skin goes.
At present i m working a week s overtime in an air conditioned building. Its lovely.
But I m still getting the oh poor you working in this lovely weather??? Dont fret yourself love i m in the best place.

OpportunityKnocks · 24/07/2019 19:08

I cannot stand the heat, I stoo functioning and just flop about. I like 18-20 degrees personally. I break once it hits about 23.

BizzzzyBee · 24/07/2019 19:11

YANBU, the heat makes me feel sick. I’ve had a headache for four days now and my toddler keeps crying and saying “hot, hot”. I’ll be glad when it cools down at the weekend.

PerfectPeony2 · 24/07/2019 19:13

Urgh same.

Hate it. It was the same last year when I had a newborn and sweat/ milk dripping all over me. I shudder when I think of how awful that was. Then this year is no better with an unsettled 1 year old.

I actually want to cry there is no escaping it. At least when you go on holiday there’s a pool to jump into or air conditioning.

I too live for Spring and Autumn. Don’t care if that makes me grumpy or whiny. My favourite weather is rain. I want to be curled up with my pyjamas and cup of tea at a reasonable temperature.

anothernamechange123 · 24/07/2019 19:14

Op yanbu
I like the bright nights and the fact that it's bright in the mornings, but that's it!
Everyone goes on about getting out and enjoying the sunshine. I fucking hate it.
It's too hot, my skin gets burnt. My DC are ginger ffs I need to walk around and make sure every inch of their poor ginger skin is plastered in factor 50.
Then they get very tired and narky.
They don't sleep well like the rest of us due to the heat and they get up super early with the light.
Bring on autumn

DuggeeHugs · 24/07/2019 19:28

YADNBU

This weather is awful and ruining my week off. I'm desperate for cooler weather. The only good bit so far was the enormous storm last night.

Autumn can't get here quickly enough!

Treaclepie19 · 24/07/2019 20:24

Where is the coldest country I can live in?
Maybe if I do that for a year I'll appreciate the heat :p

I envy Scotland as it's not as hot up there.
Roll on winter.

freshsheets · 24/07/2019 20:52

Me too OP! It makes me too hot, exhausted and grumpy. I tend to stay indoors all day and avoid going out as I can't stand it. I sleep a lot too.
Perfect weather for me is between 18-21 I'd say.

Much prefer colder weather but I do also suffer from SAD in the winter due to the early darkness I think.

DrCoconut · 24/07/2019 20:59

There are always loads of threads with people complaining about it being summer.

Pinktinker · 24/07/2019 21:00

YANBU, hot weather makes me feel physically ill.

StumpyinSomerset · 24/07/2019 21:03

the winter makes my arthritis really bad

My arthritis has been worse this week than it ever has been in the winter - I'm in the middle of a flare up (I'd rather give birth without any drugs) it's the humidity that's doing it for me.

CheckingOutTheQuantocks · 24/07/2019 21:06

The arthritis in my hands is worse in cold weather, but the arthritis in my feet is worse when it's hot - can't work that one out. I think it might be because it makes the inflammation worse, or more painful.

Sandybval · 24/07/2019 21:17

I used to love summer when it was all pub gardens after work, holidays, BBQs, evenings in the garden. Now I am hiding indoors and just venturing to the garden for some fresh air to try and keep my baby cool. Even going out for an early morning walk was sweltering this morning!

The80sweregreat · 25/07/2019 07:31

One more day of blistering heat then it's meant to cool down a bit.
I hope so anyway.

MashedSpud · 25/07/2019 07:35

Wet t shirts really help keep you cool. I started doing it yesterday much to DH’s delight. 😂

Aprilsinparis · 25/07/2019 08:59

Clutching Pearls Time Ladies
The man next door wets his t-shirt AND his underpants.........Well, not actually pisses them, but you know what I mean. The worst of it is, you can see absolutely EVERYTHING, and I mean EVERYTHING, he bent over the other day, and I could see what he'd had to eat the day before..........😲

Treaclepie19 · 25/07/2019 10:42

@Aprilsinparis 😂😱😱😱
Um... not quite sure what to say to that one!

There is a real type of SAD that people get in the Summer.
