Aibu to think this is Lyme disease?
On 3 year old sons calf.
We are in an area of high ticks and dog walk in areas there are ticks.
Noticed a raised lump like a bite 4 days ago but didn’t spot an actual tick.
Now this has appeared.
Phoned 111 at 10am this morning and they said he needs to see someone, but they’ve not called back.
Sorry can’t remember if it’s Tic or Tick 🤷‍♀️

Does it look like a bullseye?

ohdearwhatcouldtheproblembe · 20/07/2019 18:02

Yeah. I think so.

Only one ring around the bite in the middle tho.

Photo would be helpful!

I can't see a photo OP, but I would take him to a&e as 111 have not got back to you after 8+ hours.

MIdgebabe · 20/07/2019 18:05

ITs sound like a tick bite but not nessasilly Lyme . Only about 1 in 10 ticks carry the disease and it isn’t always transmitted to the human

Take a photo of it and wave it about if your ds develops any symptoms.

ohdearwhatcouldtheproblembe · 20/07/2019 18:05

Why can no one see the photo?
The photos on google look bigger than his bullseye rash though.

I had lyme this year OP - and the tick was only on me for under an hour! It's a misconception that they need to be raisin sized and on you for days! I'm a Lyme "hot spot". I had to take a strong dose of Doxycycline for a few weeks. My GP took a photo and referred me to dermatology - NICE guidelines now diagnose Lyme by bullseye alone - it's very important to get the Doxy asap. I was very ill for about a month but it all turned around.

I also managed to get MRSA in the wound site which was pretty special! Hmm

Seriously - don't fuck around if it's Lyme. Get photos and get to OOH if you can because you need to get him on the antibiotics asap.

Fightthebear · 20/07/2019 18:10

I wouldn’t go to a&e myself, it’s not an emergency. He needs to see a gp for a blood test and start antibiotics if it’s positive or there are flu like symptoms.

I’ve had a dodgy tick bite myself and this was the process the gp followed.

MadamePompadour · 20/07/2019 18:11

I get a reaction like that to some but not all midge bites.

Lyme disease photos ive seen have more concentric rings.

PianoTuner567 · 20/07/2019 18:11

Any flu-like symptoms?

Justaboutdone · 20/07/2019 18:12

Might be worth visiting a pharmacist whilst waiting for 111 to phone back?
Or give them a call again?
How is he in himself?
I would want to see a GP for that. Don’t think it needs A&E though.

MadamePompadour · 20/07/2019 18:13

Lyme is more like this

Go to A and E. My friend’s daughter has Lyme Disease and it’s brutal.

cliffdiver · 20/07/2019 18:13

The picture is similar to DD2's bite she got last year, she needed antibiotics for 3 weeks iirc.

Doctor confirmed tick bite, but they cannot doagnise LD unless you present with symptoms at a later date.

You need to see OOH's GP.

Bump for @ohdearwhatcouldtheproblembe

ohdearwhatcouldtheproblembe · 20/07/2019 18:14

So last week we were at the doctors twice for flu like symptoms. Awful temp and screaming in pain. But they couldn’t find anything wrong.

cccameron · 20/07/2019 18:15

Just looks like a normal reaction to a bite to me. You can get antihistamine medicine for children which would take it down. Visit your GP if you're worried though

ohdearwhatcouldtheproblembe · 20/07/2019 18:15

He’s fine in himself now though. A bit off his food for a couple of weeks, but fine otherwise.

BF got bit by a tick about a month ago. Visited GP 48 hrs later. GP said they don't bother with blood tests now, they just put you straight onto a 3 week course of strong antibiotics. Heed the warning about staying out of the sun whilst on them. BF never burns, but even wearing SPF 50 he got frazzled in the recent hot weather.
