Just that really! Got my sons (year 1) teacher a gift set with a selection of little flavoured gins in as a present for end of year, my friend seems to think it's not appropriate. Thoughts?

I think they probably want the gin.

Loyaultemelie · 18/07/2019 09:58

80% of the teachers in our school would love you but there are a couple of good living ones (one is very young I only know because she lives near us) who would be extremely disaproving ( although can always regift or swap)

FriarTuck · 18/07/2019 09:59

I can't understand this obsession with gin (all a bit trendy and twee) but that aside I don't think it's an issue. It's not like you've bought a huge bottle of vodka for her/him to get wasted on. And better than another bloody mug!

wigglybluelines · 18/07/2019 10:00

Most teachers would love this. Those who don't can swap the gift with one who does.

I think it's a lovely gift.

(Ex TA).

FudgeBrownie2019 · 18/07/2019 10:00

Give them the gin.

I teach reception and often get alcohol in the leaving gifts. It's lovely to receive any kind of gift at all and I'm sure the teachers will be chuffed. If they're non-drinkers they can hand it over to someone who'll appreciate it.

Yadnbu!! My brother and his fiance (both teachers) have a cupboard of all the chocolate they get. It lasts months due to not really liking sweet stuff and diets etc. They would be delighted with gin!

PurpleDaisies · 18/07/2019 10:02

I hope it’s me!

Pinktinker · 18/07/2019 10:04

YANBU, most teachers would appreciate it.

Windygate · 18/07/2019 10:09

The teachers in my family would be thrilled with gin or wine.

echt · 18/07/2019 10:15

OMG. It's not the end of my academic year in Australia, indeed the first week of this term isn't over yet, but send me the gin anyway.

I am a teacher. I got a bottle of wine off one of the parents with a message saying... my child is probably the reason you drink..enjoy.

I thought it was extremely funny 😂😂

Vibiano · 18/07/2019 10:19

Hand over your gin Grin

wishywashy6 · 18/07/2019 11:15

Perfect thank you all!

It was my 6 year olds idea to buy her alcohol 🤔😂

Defo nbu. I would love a bottle of wine (and usually get some along with the chocolates and cards). I m not a big gin fan but ds and dd are and would do some fantastic cocktails with it i could drink.
Looking forward to a hopeful wine and choc haul tomorrow Smile

insancerre · 18/07/2019 12:16

I work with pre schoolers
We need the gin
Last week I got a plant and a candle
Lovely, but it wasn’t gin

Bridget1983 · 18/07/2019 12:17

Is alcohol not just the done thing for teachers presents?! Our DC teacher has made it quite obvious she wants the booze! Better than crappy tacky “best teacher” stuff that they will NOT want in their houses and there’s always someone else who will buy them chocolates. Although obviously if teacher is Muslim or you know they don’t drink then chocolates would also be fine!

lovelyupnorth · 18/07/2019 12:17

Gin good.

Only worry if they knock them back in class. 😂

Dieu · 18/07/2019 12:18

Lovely! They'll love it SmileGinStar

wishing4sun · 18/07/2019 12:22

I work in a pre school it's near the end of term I need the gin. I even dreamed of gin last night.
If they don't like can always swap with those that might. X

happyhillock · 18/07/2019 12:26

Yes it would be okay, i bet they'll get a cupboard full of chocolate's,

kazillionaire · 18/07/2019 16:36

My son's teachers have a litre of pink gin and a bottle of Johnny Walker Red Label winging their way to them, after a year with my lads they deserve to get hammered!

BarbarAnna · 18/07/2019 16:42

A lot of the teachers at my kids’ school are bloody healthy living types! One made it very clear to the kids that he did not like chocolate just before the end of term and one made it very clear to them that she is teetotal. It put me off gift buying to be honest. I got them vouchers this year so they can buy gin, wine, chocolate, gym gear, health drinks, whatever!

trinity0097 · 18/07/2019 16:43

Plenty would be very happy with this, just not the tee-total ones!

roundtable · 18/07/2019 16:51

I've bought my ta gin as a present. She'll love it. But I did know she drinks it. My parent helper though I bought a bottle of something non alcoholic and confectionary after asking a family member who told me he was teetotal.

Does she have a ta you could ask on the sly what she likes to drink? But I'm sure she'll appreciate the thought regardless of what you go for.
