To have screamed at Chihuahua man?

Took my dog for walk in country park. It’s a small foresty type area with tall tread, large rocks, a little lake and pathways. It’s very popular with dog walkers so there are always tons of dogs there.

Anyway, this absolutely bell end was there “hiking” with a chihuahua. I mean, he had the full kit on as if he was walking the Himalayas. Massive back pack, hiking boots, walking stick etc ... it isn’t that kind of park!! It has a bleeding main road running alongside it ffs. Anyway his rat dog thing was off lead and he had it “hiking” in the trees and up the rocks etc. When it saw us it ran over, got in my dogs face and then randomly snarled and snapped at my dogs nose. This bloke started huffing and puffing shouting “leave it!” To his dog. Eventually it ran off to follow him and he disappeared into the trees. Further along we saw him again arguining with an old man with a border collie. Apparently collie wasn’t on lead and had chased chihuahua. Old man adamant that this isn’t what happened and in fact, the rat dog ran up to his and started yapping in its face so his dog reacted. Again, hiking man disappeared into the trees.
We bumped into him a final time 20 minutes later where he was having a blazing row with a woman as her little girl had tried to stroke chihuahua when it ran up to her. Dog snapped at girl’s hand and then all hell broke lose. He’d been irritating me the entire time I was there and as I walked past I lost it and screamed at him that this is the 3rd time is seen him arguing with someone all because his dog wasn’t on a lead. He went mental and said people like me shouldn’t be allowed dogs with squashed faces. I shouted back “not everyone wants to pretend to hike in a bleeding country park and if I was going to pretend to be a hiker with a dog, I’d buy a dog and not a squirrel. The woman with the kid shouted at him “oh so you’ve been bothering other people today too then?” And so I told her about border collie man.

DH thinks I should have stayed out of it but he needed telling surely?! 3 adults upset by him and a little girl bitten all because he wants to play action man. I’m fuming.

His "rat dog thing"
You don't like chihuahua's very much do you?

RobDeNirosCalling · 02/07/2019 15:43

I don’t like snappy dogs that attack other dogs and kids for no reason, no.

Sharon is that you?

Pippa489 · 02/07/2019 15:46

YABU! You lost me at 'rat dog'!!

DoneLikeAKipper · 02/07/2019 15:47

He sounds an arsehole. You sound utterly immature and completely rude about other people’s dog types. What was the ‘squished faced’ comments about yours all about? Hope you haven’t got one of these poor overbred types.

Celebelly · 02/07/2019 15:47

YANBU. We've yet to meet a chihuahua on a walk that isn't a bolshy little shit. He thinks he can get away with his dog being dangerously out of control because it's tiny.

MrsRussell · 02/07/2019 15:48

I can pretty much guarantee you that if his dog had tried to bite my DS (after owner's consent had been given - if she'd just gone to stroke strange dog without asking I'd be slightly less sympathetic, but only slightly) it would have been flying with a size 8 steel toe cap up the arse, and I'd be talking to the police about dangerous dogs.

ICanWearMyBoobsUpOrDown · 02/07/2019 15:48

Neither of you come out of this looking well tbh Hmm

RobDeNirosCalling · 02/07/2019 15:49

That was my point! The dog was completely out of control but oh it’s ok it’s only a chihuahua!!

Imagine a German shepherd acting in the same manner?

Yeah I’d have said something too. Put the bloody thing on a lead if it can’t be trusted.

Sux2buthen · 02/07/2019 15:50

Nope, any aggressive dog regardless of size should be on a lead and unable to attach others.
Yanbu

madcatladyforever · 02/07/2019 15:50

A squirrel .....lol

Bezalelle · 02/07/2019 15:50

u ok hun?

RobDeNirosCalling · 02/07/2019 15:51

The little girl was about 3 years old, the dog ran up to her - of course she’s going to try and stroke the sodding thing. It shouldn’t be off it’s lead if it can’t be trusted by apparently hiking man is above everyone else and owns the bloody park

YABU for being rude about the breed but I think whilst shouting at him like that was a bit far, confronting him about it was a valid action.

ISmellBabies · 02/07/2019 15:51

Yanbu. He was a complete irresponsible pillock to let his snappy dog off the lead bothering everyone in sight.

VivienneHolt · 02/07/2019 15:51

I don’t think there’s ever any excuse for screaming at someone, even if they were being a twat. So in that respect you were being unreasonable.

He sounds like a massive tool tho, so I can see why you were annoyed. I hate it when people let dogs off the lead and don’t have perfect control over them, it’s so unfair on everyone else.

He almost had a point about the breed - if your dog is a squashed face breed then you have a dog with deformity cruelly bred into it. However, neither I nor the man know whether it’s a rescue dog, so he was totally unreasonable to lambast you for that without knowing the full story.

Expressedways · 02/07/2019 15:52

The dog was poorly trained and should have been on a lead as a result. It would not have been unreasonable for you, or any of the other walkers, to have said as much.

The rest of your post is utter nonsense; what does his hiking outfit have to do with any of it?! I would suggest you take a deep breath and calm down.

FudgeBrownie2019 · 02/07/2019 15:52

YABU to scream at anyone. The minute you scream you've lost control of yourself.

YANBU to think the man was a dick and should have better control over his dog.

I maintain that some smaller breed owners around us seem to treat their dogs as less of a threat simply because their dogs are tiny, so discipline and boundaries are enforced less. This results in small dog syndrome where owners will loudly bray "oh he's just saying hello" as their dog attaches itself to the tail of my spaniel. Owners of bigger dogs seem to have far more control and discipline, and thus better behaved dogs (I appreciate this isn't always the case and some people will have lovely little dogs and others will have dickhead massive dogs).

If your dog is the kind who doesn't respect other dog's boundaries and gets snappy and aggressive, you have a duty to keep it, and others, safe. If you shirk that responsibility you can't get your pants in a twist when you get a bollocking in the woods. However, you also can't scream at folk without expecting a volatile response in return. You're all BU.

Travis1 · 02/07/2019 15:52

You screamed at him? Really? He's a cock but YWBU

Owlbert · 02/07/2019 15:52

YANBU!

RobDeNirosCalling · 02/07/2019 15:53

My dogs face is not squashed.
