To have screamed at Chihuahua man?

Took my dog for walk in country park. It’s a small foresty type area with tall tread, large rocks, a little lake and pathways. It’s very popular with dog walkers so there are always tons of dogs there.

Anyway, this absolutely bell end was there “hiking” with a chihuahua. I mean, he had the full kit on as if he was walking the Himalayas. Massive back pack, hiking boots, walking stick etc ... it isn’t that kind of park!! It has a bleeding main road running alongside it ffs. Anyway his rat dog thing was off lead and he had it “hiking” in the trees and up the rocks etc. When it saw us it ran over, got in my dogs face and then randomly snarled and snapped at my dogs nose. This bloke started huffing and puffing shouting “leave it!” To his dog. Eventually it ran off to follow him and he disappeared into the trees. Further along we saw him again arguining with an old man with a border collie. Apparently collie wasn’t on lead and had chased chihuahua. Old man adamant that this isn’t what happened and in fact, the rat dog ran up to his and started yapping in its face so his dog reacted. Again, hiking man disappeared into the trees.
We bumped into him a final time 20 minutes later where he was having a blazing row with a woman as her little girl had tried to stroke chihuahua when it ran up to her. Dog snapped at girl’s hand and then all hell broke lose. He’d been irritating me the entire time I was there and as I walked past I lost it and screamed at him that this is the 3rd time is seen him arguing with someone all because his dog wasn’t on a lead. He went mental and said people like me shouldn’t be allowed dogs with squashed faces. I shouted back “not everyone wants to pretend to hike in a bleeding country park and if I was going to pretend to be a hiker with a dog, I’d buy a dog and not a squirrel. The woman with the kid shouted at him “oh so you’ve been bothering other people today too then?” And so I told her about border collie man.

DH thinks I should have stayed out of it but he needed telling surely?! 3 adults upset by him and a little girl bitten all because he wants to play action man. I’m fuming.

Good job we don't let the public have handguns isn't it;!

vaselinda · 02/07/2019 16:19

You sound pleasant

Shoxfordian · 02/07/2019 16:19

Yabu for involving yourself in something that's ultimately not your business. Also for screaming at someone. Wow.

MaisyMary77 · 02/07/2019 16:20

Yanbu, I’d have been cross as well.

For what it’s worth though, my dB would wear full hiking gear and drag a couple of tyres behind him whilst out on walks. This was done because he was training to trek to the North Pole. (Which he managed! He’s now in training for his next grand expedition)

From the sounds of it though, this man was just an idiot with poorly trained dog.

RobDeNirosCalling · 02/07/2019 16:20

Well it was my business as the bloody thing attacked my dog also!

So not to drip feed, he was also wearing cargo shorts and long socks.

real men don't have chihuahuas

lljkk · 02/07/2019 16:21

He looks like Jeremy Hunt? Oh well, that's it then, totally yanbu. The tit should be strung up by the goolies, obviously. #satire.

TremblingFanjo · 02/07/2019 16:22

if I was going to pretend to be a hiker with a dog, I’d buy a dog and not a squirrel I think you deserve some brownie points for this comment Grin

I know nothing about dogs, but can a handbag dog actually go for long walks?

ChihuahuaMummy1 · 02/07/2019 16:23

@TremblingFanjo yeah they can go on long walks, ours can walk for miles. He doesnt go in a handbag either, hes far too dignified Smile

CassianAndor · 02/07/2019 16:23

YANBU, however if you have a bulldog then I'm with him on the squashed nose thing, the amount of bulldogs I hear wheezing away is really distressing. I have never come across one that can actually breath normally.

DinosaursWouldEatYou · 02/07/2019 16:24

Chihuahua man was being UR for not having is dog on a leash, when it clearly has temper problems much like it's owner.

Little girl and mom were being UR for thinking every dog is approachable for a petting. Always ask the owner first.

You were NBU for confronting him on his behaviour and well done you. Knowing me I'd if stayed quiet and silently judged.

But Chihuahuas aren't rat dogs nor are other small happy dogs.... after all size isn't everything 😉

DinosaursWouldEatYou · 02/07/2019 16:24

*small yappy dogs

Border collie man was really upset. His dog was lovely.

I had a border collie growing up and they are friendly, intelligent dogs. Other than that I think you overreacted a bit and that he's a poseur and a twat.

queenMab99 · 02/07/2019 16:25

My dog is a Springer Spaniel, so quite acceptable as a long distance hiking dog, if there is a scale of acceptability, ranging from tea cup Chihuahua to St Bernard mountain dog .........

SchadenfreudePersonified · 02/07/2019 16:28

He thinks he can get away with his dog being dangerously out of control because it's tiny.

THIS

There are a lot of little dogs, that if they were big dogs would have taken their last trip to the vet a long time since.

Any dog which is likely to snap at a person - particularly a child - should be on the leash. Strictly speaking, the child shouldn't have touched to dog, but if a dog approaches a child, anyone would be reasonable in thinking it friendly and reaching out to stroke it.

And dogs with irritate and start fights with other dogs will one day get their come-uppance. Not all dogs will tolerate being snapped and growled at - most will walk away, but one day one won't, and that little dog will end up badly hurt. And doubtless the owner will blame everyone but himself.

This is much better than all the bleeding brexit threads. I have no idea if OP was BU, but this is entertaining at least.

eddielizzard · 02/07/2019 16:29

I was on the fence until the cargo shorts and long socks. YANBU in fact you're being very restrained. Well done.

BossAssBitch · 02/07/2019 16:30

You screamed at him? Classy Hmm

Why are you saying you don't have a dog with a 'squished face', is chihuahua man also visibly impaired? Do you have a French bulldog? You hardly have the moral highground if you do have a dog with a snubbed nose, poor thing Sad

RobDeNirosCalling · 02/07/2019 16:31

My dog is not a bulldog or a pug

Ineedhelptocope · 02/07/2019 16:33

Oh god..... is it really bad that I laughed out loud reading your post OP. The whole story is bonkers.

familycourtq · 02/07/2019 16:33

But Chihuahuas aren't rat dogs

They kind of are - why bother getting one of those? If you want a dog, get a dog.

diddl · 02/07/2019 16:33

You both sound twatish tbh.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 02/07/2019 16:34

This is much better than all the bleeding brexit threads. I have no idea if OP was BU, but this is entertaining at least.

It's the image of Jeremy Hunt in faux-hiking gear with a snarling dog the size of Boris Johnson's brain that's doing it for you isn''t it family?

You can admit the truth here - you're among friends. Grin
