What annoys you about driving today?

Tootytata · 28/06/2019 11:01

I was driving along at under 30mph on a busy main road. A car was trying to pull out but traffic was flowing in both directions. I drove up to this car (which was waiting at the junction to cut across my lane and turn right).

Even though traffic was flowing at 30mph on both sides, this person (don't want a gender debate!) nudged half of her car onto the main road so I had to swerve (almost into oncoming traffic) to avoid crashing!

I looked in my rear view mirror. The guy behind me gave this person a look! Nobody sounded their horn though. I wish I did! WIBU to sound your horn in this situation?

Any driving annoyances happen to anyone else today?

Everything. I bloody hate driving. It’s a necessary evil due to where we live but it turns me into a stressy sweary sweaty mess. Ugh.

Baritriwsahys · 28/06/2019 11:04

this person (don't want a gender debate!) nudged half of her car Grin

I would have sounded my horn loud and long. People irritate the hell out of me in the roads. I'm autistic and I I like everything to be just so, when people don't follow the rules it annoys me so much. I don't get road rage it someone pulling out in front of me would definitely hear my horn!

floramcdougal · 28/06/2019 11:05

Yes you would be u to sound your horn :
A horn should only be used when warning someone of danger, not to indicate your annoyance at a manner of driving. ... A horn should not be used on a moving vehicle on a restricted road (basically a road that has street lights and a 30mph limit) between the times of 11:30 pm and 7:00 am.

ynbu to be pissed off with their poor driving

BeardofZeus · 28/06/2019 11:06

People who stop suddenly, people who don’t indicate, people who only look at the 2m of road in front of them and don’t anticipate anything else at all, people walking dogs off-lead by roads, people who are “polite” rather than following the highway code to let people out of junctions, people who do 40 on nsl, 50 or 30mph roads.

And this was all from one half hour journey this morning. I swear people are so obtuse!!

Oysterbabe · 28/06/2019 11:07

The fact that everyone is SO aggressive. Heaven forbid you make a mistake or hesitate a second too long, you're subjected to a torrent of abuse, beeping and gesturing.

sanityisamyth · 28/06/2019 11:07

Middle lane drivers. End of.

Tootytata · 28/06/2019 11:09

Baritri - damn it! I didn't want a gender debate but obviously gender reveal failure! Blush

Merryoldgoat · 28/06/2019 11:09

People who don’t use their FUCKING INDICATORS.

Jjou · 28/06/2019 11:14

Other drivers. And cyclists.

I would like my own personal road that floats above the regular road kind of like Mario Kart's rainbow road level.

I know IBU, but I spend most of my time driving wondering how people pass their driving tests.

Tadpoletofrog · 28/06/2019 11:14

People who don’t indicate on roundabouts. Drives me bonkers as both a driver and pedestrian.

I sometimes step out on to the road a little bit, when I can sense a driver starting to turn off and they haven’t indicated, just to make them brake a bit sharply. (Judging it so no chance of an actual accident!). I occasionally get an apology, I mostly get abuse shouted at me, because I assumed that them not indicating meant they were not turning....

CallieOMalley · 28/06/2019 11:14

Tailgaters.

I drive at the speed limit. Sometimes even slightly over (yup). I do not stay out in the overtaking lane any longer than I need to.

And yet every bloody time I have the temerity to move out and legitimately overtake something I end up with a car up my arse. I have as much right to be in this lane as you do you monumental prick.

hsegfiugseskufh · 28/06/2019 11:15

not today but a couple of days ago...

queueing to traffic lights, always bad there, always a long queue.

car transporter at the side of the road. 1 van on it. hazards on. To me that means its not moving, its a hazard in the road, hence the lights.

traffic lights changed and we started moving, road is wide enough for traffic (me) to pass it safely, so I did. Or I tried to because it started trying to pull out in front of me!! so I am now next to the middle of this thing, whilst its trying to pull off the path, this idiot clearly hasn't checked his mirrors.

if I had stayed put he would have pushed me into the other side of the road (moving traffic) with his back end and caused an accident, I had to go round him, and pull infront of him which wasn't ideal either! he didn't flash or apologise or anything! wasn't bothered at all!

you would think people driving these large vehicles would know the difference between hazard lights and fucking indicators!!

CallieOMalley · 28/06/2019 11:16

Yeah also lorry drivers who drive dangerously.

You’re driving something that could wipe out a family. Take a bit of care about it.

QueenoftheBiscuitTin · 28/06/2019 11:17

I don't like driving because of the amount of rude, irresponsible and impatient drivers on the road. I haven't been driving long though, so maybe I'll get used to it.

Tootytata · 28/06/2019 11:17

Yes, this is another thing that irks me. I was driving at 50mph on the motorway due to speed restrictions on that stretch. A LOT of people overtook me so they obviously weren't driving at 50mph! Why do people do this?!

OP posts:
Cismyfatarse1 · 28/06/2019 11:18

Camper vans. Anyone in a camper van. Especially those who hire them and can't drive them. But really anyone. The roads up here (North West Scotland) are often single track. They clog up the roads, "wild camp" (ie park in a layby and clog up the passing places). They destroy the fragile environment and are usually arseholes.

EBearhug · 28/06/2019 11:22

People who ignore traffic lights, of which there seem to have been many in the last week, but not something I have noticed as much previously.

People who don't leave gaps for cars to exit side roads, when they're in a queue, especially when I am aiming for the road directly opposite, not to join the same queue.

People who drive inconsiderately on roundabouts, particularly the one which is J11 of the M4.

Disfordarkchocolate · 28/06/2019 11:24

Nearly all other drivers annoy me.

Crappy parkers, the non-indicators, the idiots who don't follow lane indicators at roundabouts and change lane dangerously, the ones who can't merge, the speeders, phone users, slow drivers, and manic overtakers. I think that's a start.

BalonzZofloraHernandez · 28/06/2019 11:24

Cruise control middle-lane drifters

Reith · 28/06/2019 11:25

Men who wave or flash their lights for you to make a manoeuvre, and then get abusive when you choose not to. This happens to me a lot at the top of our street where I know that you need to have a good check if it's safe as there's a good risk of cars and cyclists being hit as you turn in.

Bookworm4 · 28/06/2019 11:29

@EBearhug
Nobody is obliged to let you out, that’s a massive annoyance of mine; people who think they’re being polite waving everybody and they’re granny out side streets, you’re not being polite you’re stopping the flow of traffic; an utter twat did this in front of me the other day; dual carriageway 60 limit and slams her brakes on to let a car out; fortunatelyI wasn’t too close to her. An awful lot of people need to revise their Highway Code.

Bookworm4 · 28/06/2019 11:30

*their granny

Poppyfr33 · 28/06/2019 11:31

People that drive on my side of the road then say it is my fault they hit me! Car manufacturers who make cars with no indicators, road builders who make drivers drive in middle lane of motorway, cars that don’t know how to park, car manufacturers who make so many gimmicks in cars people forget to watch the road.

GPatz · 28/06/2019 11:33

This happens more and more. Impatient people whose time is obviously more important than anybody else pulls out into one lane and holds up that traffic whilst nudging into the other. Ridiculous. Wait like everyone else

itsbetterwithoutyou · 28/06/2019 11:45

Undertaking!

There suddenly seems to be a lot of that going on.
