What annoys you about driving today?

I was driving along at under 30mph on a busy main road. A car was trying to pull out but traffic was flowing in both directions. I drove up to this car (which was waiting at the junction to cut across my lane and turn right).

Even though traffic was flowing at 30mph on both sides, this person (don't want a gender debate!) nudged half of her car onto the main road so I had to swerve (almost into oncoming traffic) to avoid crashing!

I looked in my rear view mirror. The guy behind me gave this person a look! Nobody sounded their horn though. I wish I did! WIBU to sound your horn in this situation?

Any driving annoyances happen to anyone else today?

Therefore they were speeding above the legal limit!

But that's their problem if they get caught. Why does it bother you unless you were being tailgated.

procrastinatingtoday · 28/06/2019 20:22

"If there is someone behind you and no one in front of you, then get out of the lane" (middle/ right lanes)
"Stay in this lane unless you're going to pass" (left lane) - ideally not too much below speeding limit/ what speed traffic is flowing otherwise you are the cause of traffic

I just came home in a rage at a tailgater.
So we have a road that’s a 60. I’m doing 50 because there is a car ahead of me also doing around 50 which I can’t overtake because someone is coming the other way. Duh!!! Single carriageway.

The road then becomes a double bend. Tailgater cannot cope that I’m not overtaking slow car on the blind bend. He desperately wants to overtake both of us and keeps pulling out. It then turns into a 30 which again he can’t cope with either and I imagine I’m expected to carry on doing 50 in the 30.
Not sure what tailgater thinks is going to happen (the impossible?) but anyway when I am tail gated I slow down and create distance between me and the car in front. So in non tail gated conditions I would’ve driven a little closer to the car in front today but absolutely not up for becoming part of a car sandwich so left a much bigger gap than usual.

I live in a city with many large multi-lane roundabouts, all labelled with their destination and marked out to gradually move you around to the appropriate exit.

And yet. The amount of times I am cut up by people who can neither read nor drive between two lines! FFS people, it's not hard! I'll give you a clue, mate. If you're taking exit 4 of 4, it's unlikely that lane 2 is for you. Don't cut across me without indicating whilst I travel in lane 3. Wankers! Illiterate wankers.

Nothing, today. Good day of lots of driving!

SisyphusDad · 28/06/2019 21:57

Twice in about 5 minutes drivers decided that it didn't matter that I was on the roundabout with right of way, they'd just pull out in front of me.

ThistleDownHair · 28/06/2019 21:58

Aggressive driving style....the amount of people I encounter that seem to think that a "give way" sign/marking doesn't apply to them somehow is astounding.

Cyclists also annoy the hell out of me. I live in an area of natural beauty so they come here in their droves (literally groups of 20 plus) and take over the narrow windy roads. I cycle myself - but NOT on the road - I stick to cycle paths away from traffic like the local old railway line.

Gingerkittykat · 28/06/2019 22:10

A huge proportion of my driving is done on country roads.

The double, and once triple overtake, it's something which is downright dangerous. The road I'm on daily is in good condition, not too windy but has a lot of accidents and it is these idiots who cause it. Someone doing the dodgy overtake near a bend killed a motorcyclist a couple of years back and I've seen several cars in ditches and fields from people taking the bends too fast.

The tailgater. Like the double overtaker these are almost always aggressive men. I drive 40 to 50 on this road, as do most others, but there are always a few wanting to go at 60+

Cyclists wearing all black with a tiny pedal powered blinking light at the back. I had a near miss with one on the back road because I didn't see him till up close. Make yourself visible.

Driving would be such a pleasure if it wasn't for all the other arseholes on the road. Women drivers are the worst too & I say that as a woman. Just glad I don't drive like a woman driver lol.

chocolatemademefat · 28/06/2019 22:37

People at traffic lights who don’t move when the light changes to green. Just move! But no - they have to check mirrors and - slowly - get back into gear. Fucking move!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 28/06/2019 23:39

People who speed up when the lights change to amber and/or go through a red light especially when I'm waiting to turn right. Happens at every bloody junction.

IGottaSeeJane · 28/06/2019 23:56

People who have no idea how wide their car is and hesitate at gaps you could take a London bus through!

EBearhug · 29/06/2019 03:01

people who don't say thank you
I assume that if I don't see someone wave their hand or something, it's because I can't see because of light reflecting on the windscreen or something, or I'm focussing on a different bit of the road. Or they might be busy changing gear or wondering what the bus behind me is about to do or something.

I nearly always wave, but I won't flash might lights to say thanks. It's fine at the moment, but I hate it in winter when someone thinks blinding me with a really bright light is a good way of thanking me. It's not, it's hazardous, and I am not doing that to anyone else. If people think I am rude rather than considerate, that's their problem. At least they'll be able to see whatever's behind me on the road.

MrPan · 29/06/2019 08:39

Cars going through on red lights. " I can just squeeze through in time..'

Happened yesterday. Had to swerve to avoid the bastard on my bike. But every time I hear drivers complain about bikes through on red with no risk to anyone the words fuck off form in my head.
