Uti and no chemist open till 10am

MrsxRocky · 09/06/2019 03:50

I've got a uti. Woke up around midnight and I'm bursting to pee and hardly anything coming out.
Phoned 111 and they set up prescription for anti biotic but no chemist open until 10am.
Just a post really to whine.
Been sat on toilet for hours as every time I lay down I'm just desperate.
I hate Sundays. Bloody country isn't even religious anymore yet we still stick to these stupid Christian hours.
Am I the only one who thinks it's ridiculous in this day in age that chemist's etc can be shut for so long?
I'm in bloody agony and fed up and now have to wait till 10am 😭

Have you got a bath? I find sitting in a warm/hot bath helps ease it. Also if you have any bicarbonate of soda, mix a teaspoon with water and down it. It is foul but does help. If you have any juice, you could mix it with that, except fresh orange.
A hot water bottle between your legs can also help if you don't have a bath.

Saturdaycartoon · 09/06/2019 03:56

You poor thing. Painful.

Have you tried to drink and drink? I'm a sufferer too. Several years ago a really old-school local GP gave me a good talking to and even came up with an article from the British Medical Journal on tests comparing those who drank (I think) 3L of water a day and those who didn't with a UTI. Massively improves healing time.

I know it's difficult but if you drink as much water as you can bear it should really help. Slightly warm also helps me to get it down and seems to help it pas faster too.

Thanks
Mummaofmytribe · 09/06/2019 03:58

Cranberry juice. It honestly helps if the UTI has just started. As much as you can stomach and heaps of water in between. I did that when I was caught without access to meds and it tided me over.

Nat6999 · 09/06/2019 04:07

Ibuprofen, you can take up to 2400mg in 24 hours, drink as much as you can, check your local newspaper, most areas have a chemist that is open 24 hours.

milkjetmum · 09/06/2019 04:20

My routine was to drink half pint of water/squash every 20 min, and one weak tea per hour. Hot water bottle, painkillers and distraction. Once doing decent wees less often I would just drink another glass after each wee.

I hate how it gets worse before it gets better, it will take about 40min for the water to work through your system and start giving some relief.

I used to be a regular sufferer until one awful night on a campsite no less where in the peak of it I couldn't pee at all and thought I would need to be airlifted out of toilet block. Then it just stopped and never happened again! With hindsight I would guess I had some small kidney or bladder stone that needed to pass. Had gallstones since so maybe I am a stony person!

Hope you feel better soon

Crapplepie · 09/06/2019 04:26

Try and drink as much water as you can stomach, then sit in the bath and let it come out. Sorry you're feeling so bad, you have all my sympathies - UTIs suck. If you're prone to them, and you have a sensible GP, they may give you extra antibiotics to keep in your cupboard so you can take them if you get caught out in the middle of the night again. My GP trusts I know what a UTI is as I well should having had quite a few and trusts me to use the antibiotics sparingly, and appropriately. Might be worth an ask. Flowers

Bumbelinaaa · 09/06/2019 04:27

Drink a cup of water with a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda in. It will reduce the acidity of your urine and stop the burning pain.. But it tastes foul!

MrsxRocky · 09/06/2019 04:31

Thanks for replies.
I'm too scared to drink anything. Haven't done since around 10pm when I went to bed. Feel like bladder full now was worried I'd be worse off then.
I can't take brufen because I'm pregnant.
I didn't think of Bath will give it a try.

All night supermarkets have 'OTC' sachets of stuff called cystitis relief etc. They're not anti biotic but PH. neutraliser.
As pp have said, sodium bicarb (NaHc03) in water will have the same effect.
I feel for you,I had this about 6 weeks ago and it was the nastiest illness that I've ever had. Flowers

Aquamarine1029 · 09/06/2019 04:34

Not drinking water will only make it worse!

Saturdaycartoon · 09/06/2019 04:38

Courage, OP, please do drink, you really really need to drink! I'm awake now as I needed to pee and I could feel that if I didn't drink I'd have a problem in the morning. Just downed two huge glasses.

As others have said, it may get worse temporarily but it definitely won't get better if you don't drink. You need to flush your system. Sipping is easy and makes it easier then to down a big drink. You can do it!

costacoffeecup · 09/06/2019 04:42

You need to drink!

chickhonhoneybabe · 09/06/2019 04:50

You need to drink to help flush the bacteria out! You can take paracetamol to help with the pain and if you’ve got a temp def take some paracetamol.

weaseley · 09/06/2019 05:04

You must drink, drink, drink. Dilute that bacteria! Lemongrass essential oil on my abdomen seems to work faster for UTI pain relief than anything else I've used, but I realise it's a longshot that you might have it in the house.

If you have any ascorbic vitamin C that really helps to drink in water too.

Heat provides relief, so warm bath, hot water bottle or heating pad. I also put on an extra layer before going back to bed. Helps me sleep through the worst of the shivering and cramping.

Milkjetmum the thought of passing a stone in a freaking camping block toilet makes me want to cry. You're a hero. That is literally one of the worst things I've read. The combination of cold camping toilets and UTI pain just makes me wince. You poor sod.

MrsxRocky · 09/06/2019 05:09

That's why I hate Sundays.
All night supermarkets are all closed so I can't even get any sachets from them.
I'm so tired. My husband even slept on sofa so near me bless him. He's off to work in a bit.

You must drink! Loads! It will help to flush it out.

Ilovechocolate01 · 09/06/2019 05:22

Take paracetamol to take the edge off the pain. Keep drinking water you may be able to flush the worst of it it out over a few hours. Sometimes this worked for me but had to drink a lot of water. As you're pregnant can you phone 111 for an out of hours GP appointment or phone MAU? I'm not sure whether you can take the cystitis sachets if you're pregnant

roundligament · 09/06/2019 05:25

How many weeks pregnant are you you need to get urine cultured really

awalkintheparka · 09/06/2019 05:26

Not drinking water is the worst thing you can do. Trust me OP the more liquid in your bladder the easier it is to wee. You'll only aggravate it and make it 100 times worse if you don't.

Toodeloo · 09/06/2019 06:39

Listen to those who can actually help make it go away, not just dampen the symptoms and Try that bloody bicarb already! I’ve got one again right now and it HELPS within half an hour or so- you’ll not need the antibiotics.

BananaCatto · 09/06/2019 06:43

Welllll your post it a little religion hating isn’t it?! Shocking

BananaCatto · 09/06/2019 06:43

Couldn’t say that about another religion and get away with it could you?

Yorkshirepudding1987 · 09/06/2019 06:45

Recurrent UTI sufferer here. You need to drink as much as you can so you wee when you go to the toilet. You need to flush it out.

I drink at least a pint of water per hour when I have a UTI.

You're making it worse by not drinking.

mindutopia · 09/06/2019 07:04

Drink litres of water. You surely are mostly in agony from not drinking. It’s what flushes the bacteria out. There is also a urinary painkiller that turns your urine a really strange colour (bright orange?). I don’t know if you can buy that over the counter in the UK (never had a UTI here thankfully), but it really helps.

UnicornBrexit · 09/06/2019 07:09

Bloody country isn't even religious anymore yet we still stick to these stupid Christian hours. Am I the only one who thinks it's ridiculous in this day in age that chemist's etc can be shut for so long?

Or you could go to the hospital pharmacy which will be 24/7.

You can take paracetamol, but rightly not ibuprofen
