Uti and no chemist open till 10am

MrsxRocky · 09/06/2019 03:50

I've got a uti. Woke up around midnight and I'm bursting to pee and hardly anything coming out.
Phoned 111 and they set up prescription for anti biotic but no chemist open until 10am.
Just a post really to whine.
Been sat on toilet for hours as every time I lay down I'm just desperate.
I hate Sundays. Bloody country isn't even religious anymore yet we still stick to these stupid Christian hours.
Am I the only one who thinks it's ridiculous in this day in age that chemist's etc can be shut for so long?
I'm in bloody agony and fed up and now have to wait till 10am 😭

Wow you have a uti and it's the fault of Christians?

Grow up. Antibiotics aren't going to instantly cure you the minute you take one. If you're that bad go to a&e if not you'll have to wait. The world doesn't revolve around you.

PutyourtoponTrevor · 09/06/2019 07:29

I don't think its op who needs to grow up greyhound, what a stupid post.

Silvercatowner · 09/06/2019 07:32

"go to a&e"

Really?

Thursday4567852 · 09/06/2019 07:35

@Greyhound22 your in a great mood today!!

Fireballfriends · 09/06/2019 07:43

I've been to A&E with UTIs before, the doctors told me it was the right thing to do both times.

Also, DRINK as much water as poss, it really helps the pain so much.

CripsSandwiches · 09/06/2019 07:45

@Greyhound22

Wow your empathy and your ability to read the tone and judge a compassionate response astounds me. What a lovely, helpful reply.

MsJaneAusten · 09/06/2019 07:52

OP - you MUST drink. You’ll make yourself much more ill if you don’t. Flushing out the infection might mean you don’t even need antibiotics.

Also, get off the toilet. It’ll just make you feel more miserable when nothing comes out (which it won’t, if you’re not drinking)

Sounds absolutely ridiculous but get a hot water bottle and put it on the soles of your feet. It takes that ‘urgent’ feeling away. I read about it on here years ago and thought it sounded bonkers, but it works.

Hope you feel better soon

LIVIA999 · 09/06/2019 07:53

I had sooo many uTi when pregnant with my first. I went to see a doctor who told me not to go near cranberry as the sugar actually makes it worse. Which goes against everything else we get told.
So drink tons of water. Warm baths.
I found this stuff online called waterfall d mannose that you can take when pregnant and I swear I've never had a uTi since taking it. There is a thread about it on here somewhere. I recommend it to anyone I know who suffers.
Keep drinking though!

QuickRedFox · 09/06/2019 07:59

Why is it anti-religion to say that the country isn’t Christian any more? Most people aren’t practising Christians.

PenelopeFlintstone · 09/06/2019 08:00

Ask your friends if they've got any of those UTI sachets in the cupboard? I did that in a similar situation and then just replaced them. They give relief quite quickly.

FizzyPink · 09/06/2019 08:04

Seriously you need to drink. I’m a sufferer and the best thing before I can get antibiotics is to sit in a warm bath and down glasses of water. You can then wee in the bath and it will be less painful.
Also cranberry juice is full of sugar and a complete myth. Just drink water.

FizzyPink · 09/06/2019 08:06

Also maybe not if you’re pregnant but Superdrug online doctor will prescribe antibiotics to keep at home for future use. It’s about £25 but there’s been times I’d have paid much more for some relief!

Dec2019mumtobe · 09/06/2019 08:10

You can't take the cystitis sachets while pregnant. I had two UTIs while pregnant last year and checked the label.

One time, i was in a foreign country with no pharmacy open nearby. I did as advised on google and drank LOTS of water. It really did help flush out the infection until I could go to a pharmacy and buy the antibiotics.

It hurt to wee at first but got better the more I drank. Xx

Misshicks · 09/06/2019 08:16

@Greyhound

I know first hand how awful uti's are. Show some compassion girl.

@op

I really struggled with them first year of teaching brought on with holding myself for hours. Try cranberry juice.

Greyhound22 · 09/06/2019 08:21

It's a really twatty opening post. The OP has suddenly decided she has a water infection - been able to call a phone number and someone has organised a prescription to be available as soon as the shops open this morning. What more do you want? Seriously?

Misshicks · 09/06/2019 08:23

@Greyhound

She's only asking for advice though.

Susiedog · 09/06/2019 08:26

They are awful.
I'm currently going through the same and feel the same about not wanting to drink.
I'm trying to hold out until the morning as hate walk in centres for myself. If was one of the children it would obviously be different.

Silvercatowner · 09/06/2019 08:31

I've been to A&E with UTIs before

Yes but she's already been assessed and had medication prescribed.

Graceymac99 · 09/06/2019 08:31

Its pure cranberry juice, (not the type that are sold in cartons in the supermarket) that is effective in preventing bacterial infections in the urinary tract. You can but it in health food shops. It is very bitter as it is not sweetened.

MrsxRocky · 09/06/2019 08:39

I have phoned the out of hours. Hospitals pharmacy is not open to members of public I did ask. I'm not stupid!
The hospitals 24/7 pharmacy is only accessible to Dr's.
And yes I am irritated with the out dated Sunday hours that apply to anything open to public which stems from when the UK used to be more religious so Sunday was the holy day.
Go to a and e for a uti? Would solve nothing more than what I did phoning 111.
Id have been waiting in pain in a waiting room for hours rather than my own house.

OP posts:
Ellapaella · 09/06/2019 08:54

@MrsxRocky you have my utmost sympathy as this was me a couple of weeks ago. I was peeing blood too, the most horrendous pain I think I've ever had.
What I found helpful was sitting in a warm bath. This really did help to relieve the discomfort. Also I sat with a hot water bottle between my legs!
In actual fact the antibiotics did start to work very quickly - I noticed a huge improvement after two doses. The doctor I saw gave me a full weeks course rather than just the three day standard course.

Ellapaella · 09/06/2019 08:56

Be careful with cranberry juice - it can help to prevent infection by flushing out bacteria from the urinary tract but drinking it when you actually have a UTI can irritate the bladder even more as can other fruit juices. Also avoid anything sugary or caffeinated as these are also bladder irritants.

Greywalls12 · 09/06/2019 08:56

Hospital pharmacy's aren't open 24/7 to the public and they're barely open to staff 24/7. There's an on call pharmacist and i have to have a very good reason to call them out of bed in the early hours of the morning, and even then it needs to be approved by the site managers! And i have to explain why this wasn't sorted in the day time. Usual conversation goes something like this -
Me- i need to speak to the on call pharmacist
SM - why? You should have ordered any medications in the day time
Me - this patient is the one you just sent down from a&e, who needs this special medication/antibiotics urgently, which should have been given in a&e and no one's allowed to keep on their wards
SM - do you know how expensive it is to call them and have them come in out of hours blah blah blah
Me - well yes but this medication is urgent and possibly life saving
SM finally agrees, get to call on call pharmacist and an hour after speaking to site we get the medication!

Rant over. Hope you're feeling better op, UTI's are just awful

Eloisedublin123 · 09/06/2019 09:00

Bread soda / bicarbonate soda in warm water - drink loads straight away

minesasaugagesupper · 09/06/2019 09:05

As has been mentioned :) :) drink as much as you can. Yes, it is sore to pee at the beginning but as you drink the urine in your bladder will become more diluted and this will then take the sting out. You really do need to drink as much as you can. Paracetamol, hot water bottle, wrap up warm and lie down.
