Uti and no chemist open till 10am

MrsxRocky · 09/06/2019 03:50

I've got a uti. Woke up around midnight and I'm bursting to pee and hardly anything coming out.
Phoned 111 and they set up prescription for anti biotic but no chemist open until 10am.
Just a post really to whine.
Been sat on toilet for hours as every time I lay down I'm just desperate.
I hate Sundays. Bloody country isn't even religious anymore yet we still stick to these stupid Christian hours.
Am I the only one who thinks it's ridiculous in this day in age that chemist's etc can be shut for so long?
I'm in bloody agony and fed up and now have to wait till 10am 😭

@Greyhound22 "Wow you have a uti and it's the fault of christians"
Well I agree with the Op, it's a stupid outdated policy that no one actually really gives a stuff about, shops should be open as usual, public transport should run as normal, it's utter madness.

Susiedog · 09/06/2019 09:15

Drinking doesn't help. It just adds to the pain and discomfort.
Roll on tomorrow morning!

seven201 · 09/06/2019 09:15

I've had lots of uti's and kidney infections and three lots of kidney surgery. I was on antibiotics for most of my pregnancy for them too.

Do NOT drink cranberry juice when you have a uti. It's to help prevent (and not sugary ocean spray anyway) but as a treatment it makes it worse due to the sugar. My urologist told me that. You really do need to flush it away by drinking lots of water. Get to the chemist for 10.

starflake · 09/06/2019 09:16

Bread soda in water definitely works. I get Uti's a lot & always use this method. U will get relief within half an hour & then keep flushing the body with water.

EleanorReally · 09/06/2019 09:17

you need to drink.
antibiotics take 24 hours to work anyway

EleanorReally · 09/06/2019 09:19

try and find something to take your mind off it op

Susiedog · 09/06/2019 09:22

How on earth does drinking help?
I find it easier to not drink anything rather than drink lots of fluids to add to the pain and discomfort. It gives me a bit of respite from the pain until I can get to the doctors first thing tomorrow morning.

SavageBeauty73 · 09/06/2019 09:23

Please start drinking gallons of water. Good luck.

MaxNormal · 09/06/2019 09:28

Drinking flushes the bladder. Sometimes to the point where things resolve without the need for antibiotics.
The reason elderly women get UTIs is not drinking enough.

CaptainCabinets · 09/06/2019 09:38

@Susiedog what stupid ‘advice’! OP really does need to drink plenty of water to flush the bacteria out. If she doesn’t, the problem will become 100x worse and could travel to her kidneys.

Stop giving out utterly dangerous misinformation.

Yorkshirepudding1987 · 09/06/2019 09:48

@susiedog that is the most ridiculous and stupid advice I've read.

The feeling of needing the toilet and nothing happening is much worse than actually having a wee.

Drinking lots and peeing lots helps to flush the bacteria out.

I have suffered every few months with UTI's for years and noone has ever said dont drink.

OP drink loads. Take 1000mg vitamin c tablet per day to help prevent future UTI's. I also take optibac probiotic for women and d mannose to help prevent but I do have them recurrent.

The antibiotics will take a day or two to kick in, please drink as much as you can it is really important.

MummyOfTwo92 · 09/06/2019 09:51

Although baths feel like they help at the time they can sometimes make it worse. Try some paracetamol and you must drink to flush it out your system and of course baby needs fluids to. Hope you feel better soon OP

Ellapaella · 09/06/2019 10:02

Why would baths make it worse? It's recommended on the NHS website to do it to get relief. Obviously bubble bath is not recommended but why don't understand why the bath itself would make it worse? It was literally the only king that relieved the horrendous stinging for me and 111 advised me to do it.

Susiedog · 09/06/2019 10:19

I'm just saying what is helping me right now.
I'm not suggesting she does the same.

RosaWaiting · 09/06/2019 10:22

sorry OP, hope all sorted now

Can I just ask - 111 automatically sent a prescription for you?

they wouldn't do that for my elderly mother so we had to go to out of hours on a Sunday. They insisted she be seen by a doctor. So if it happens again, I should really push for a prescription to be sent without a doctor seeing her?

Susiedog · 09/06/2019 10:22

It's reached the point where the more I drink the less urine I pass which means my bladder is full and I literally can't empty it no matter how full it gets as I'm in so much pain.

Susiedog · 09/06/2019 10:25

It's not easy to rationalise anything when I'm in this much pain.

Ellapaella · 09/06/2019 10:43

@Susiedog if you can't pee you need to be careful you're not going into retention. I'd suggest calling 111 again.

MitziK · 09/06/2019 11:06

Call 111 again and tell them you can't urinate at all now. Don't be surprised if they tell you to go to hospital - and do it.

In the meantime, get into a warm - not hot - bath and use your fingers encourage your bladder and urethra to cooperate.

Had to do it the day after I had DD2, thanks to the bruising. Had I not managed it, I'd have had to make an emergency appointment, as retention can also result in a ruptured bladder, which is a medical emergency.

LoobyLou1976 · 09/06/2019 11:08

There is a supplement called D-Mannose, which helps certain types of bacteria stick to it and which are then 'flushed' out of the bladder along with the urine. Some women find it a helpful supplement to take when they have recurrent UTIs. Cranberry supplements are also useful (you don't necessarily have to drink the juice). These are sometimes better actually, as the cranberry juice will have sugar which is not helpful.
Drinking lots of water will help, ignore the advice about limiting your water intake (especially if you are pregnant!) - this will help flush your system.
Antibiotics will not work the second you start taking them unfortunately, and it will have to be the RIGHT antibiotic (perhaps ask for a urine culture), but you should start to feel better in a day or two. You don't actually 'always' need antibiotics for a urine infection, your body is usually able to clear it on its own and if you can avoid antibiotics is always better. Statistically ABs only shorten the duration of UTIs by a few days. However, I know some people will swear that ABs are the only solution.

Warn baths with plain water.
Hot water bottle on your abdomen.

Drink lots of water.

Hope you feel better soon.

MrsMiggins37 · 09/06/2019 11:18

your post it a little religion hating isn’t it?! Shocking

Oh give it a rest. English Sunday opening hours ARE ridiculous and it is a relic. We have 24 hour opening all through the week in Scotland and the country hasn’t gone to hell in a handcart yet.

EleanorReally · 09/06/2019 11:20

Are you taking paracetamol? That would help

Lockheart · 09/06/2019 11:26

You need to drink plenty of water.

If I ever feel a twinge of cystitis coming on I immediately start drinking a pint of water every half hour on the dot. Yes it's a pain and yes you'll be back and forth to the bathroom for a while and yes it hurts to pee, but 9 times out of 10 it flushes the infection out and I can get rid of it in a few hours.

It's not foolproof, but when it works it's much better than letting it develop and having to take antibiotics for a few days and waiting for it to go slowly.

Itellpeopletogoogleit · 09/06/2019 11:28

I HATE Sunday hours. It's ridiculous!!

BusterGonad · 09/06/2019 12:03

@MrsMiggins37 eloquently put! Grin
