To ask school to choose? (parking)

Aibu to ask my DD’s school to choose to alert that they must reverse park. There are no guidelines in the car park and I just feel like it’s mayhem. If we all reversed parked then it may be s bit more streamlined and time saving? Do you think they would find me weird for suggesting it ?😂😬

I can't reverse park so I would be mighty pissed off and disobey unenforceable guidelines. I think maybe you just have to submit to the chaos!

I have a large car and need to get in to my boot, reverse parking isn’t practical for everyone.

@Treaclesweet really? Do you not need to show you can do it to pass your test?? I actually find reverse parking easier tbh

One of the offices I used to work in insisted that everyone reverse park to make leaving easier . One woman insisted she couldn’t reverse park so was told to park elsewhere . Strangely she learned how to do it !

^^this makes me cringe! It gives fuel to sexist men saying "women can't reverse park".

OP, that's why it won't work, there reallybare people out there that "can't" reverse park!

Not being able to reverse park is actually bloody dangerous. Imagine needing to park on a drive off a main road and having to reverse into traffic and that's just one scenario.

Treacle you should book some refresher lessons.

If people can't reverse park, they shouldn't be driving.

I think it’s a good idea. At my DCs nursery everyone is told from the start that they must reverse park, and everyone manages it. I get that some people need to get things out of the boot, but not many do on the school run. A lot of the school mums struggle reversing out when there are so many children around, and it would be much much safer if people reverse parked before school ended. So I’m with you OP.

I spent some time in the US - reverse parked out of habit. Got told off. Almost no-one does it there.

Wow are you sure you're even capable of driving ? You need to do something about this.

The fact school even accommodates parking is a bonus.

We have a school that refuses to acknowledge anyone needs to drive to/from school. It can be dog eat dog out there Confused

Reversing into a parking space was only added to the driving test fairly recently really - I never had to do it when I learnt to drive (I can but was never tested on it).

You're going to get no joy though - can't even get the entitled bunch off the double yellows around our school.

@familycourtq that’s crazy we lived abroad for years and most public car parks had reverse parking rules!! Some even clamped you if you didn’t 😬

Reverse park? Get out double buggy - try to manurer buggy via parked cars to get babies out and into the pushchair? Go back for bags? Don’t think so

@GreenTulips there is never a need to take out a buggy in our school car park Confused everyone just drives in, parks, gets kids out of the car, hands then their bags etc and watches them walk in essentially. The odd parent might help carry an instrument or go in to speak to a teacher but that’s it. Never once have I seen a buggy on the school premises.

Who would enforce it though? I think the school would nod politely at the suggestion and then ignore you, whilst thinking you were maybe a bit over-invested in the whole thing.

Treacle, I felt like that when I passed my test. You didn’t need to reverse park in the test (12 years ago) but you had to reverse around a corner. That was fine, because no cars to get in between and no lines to stay between so you didn’t need to be quite as exact. My instructor never taught me reverse bay parking. After my test, I went to the supermarket and went up to the back corner and just did reverse parking over and over until I had it down. It’s really very easy when you just give it a go and practice. I just reverse park in one movement now; no driving in an out trying to straighten up.

Some workplaces insist on reverse parking - in case everyone needs to evacuate, all vehicles can leave car park faster and safer if all are just driving out. Something like that! Made sense to me at the time.

Probably because it wasn't in the test.

I've never been taught to reverse park or parallel park. I can reverse park but my parallel parking is shit.
