To think Vossi Bop is misogynistic rubbish?

Just that really. Everytime it comes on the radio I'm a bit annoyed that with all the positivity of the Me Too! movement etc. this made number one.

It is very catchy. I can’t help but like it. I don’t really think too deeply about song lyrics. Just enjoy the melody and the beat. Sorry.

TheFatberg · 26/05/2019 07:09

I'm here for the inevitable replies of "what's a Vossi Bop?" from people who don't realise that googling is quicker.

Duster12 · 26/05/2019 07:09

Just looked up the lyrics, uninspired boring wank.

Mummadeeze · 26/05/2019 07:10

Oh, and I like the bit where he says ‘fuck Boris!’

ElspethFlashman · 26/05/2019 07:11

I think it's absolute shite. He's just droning on and on.

And yeah, he doesn't have a lot of time for women, who he seems to find very tiresome, even when spunking on their faces.

Duster12 · 26/05/2019 07:11

Didn't even get that far 😂😴

BBInGinDrinking · 26/05/2019 07:21

Down wid da mumz kidz, innit?!

PristineCondition · 26/05/2019 07:24

Your patents thought the music you like was misogynistic dross too.
And their parents thought the same.

DoraleeRhodes · 26/05/2019 07:28

Clearly I’m too old, just looked up the lyrics and I’ve got no idea what most of them even mean, let alone if they’re misogynistic or not.

BBInGinDrinking · 26/05/2019 07:32

I thought at first that this was another one of the silly billy threads Night Watch are currently dealing with!

You know my parents?
I would say music is far more likely to have violent or racist lyrics now than in the 90's. Or it could just be that there is less censorship on the radio.

Eminem was among many rappers with a huge fan base who had misogynistic and violent lyrics in the 90s and 00s.

Stormzy is just one of so many and is nothing new...

smartcarnotsosmartdriver · 26/05/2019 07:40

When DH was growing up he listen to a lot of Eminem, I reckon that was considerably worse than a lot of modern lyrics on the radio. His parents weren't fans but he's managed just fine not to turn into a misogynistic arse. I reckon we'll be all right.

smartcarnotsosmartdriver · 26/05/2019 07:40

Cross post with @MsSquiz

Deathgrip · 26/05/2019 07:42

Yeah, when I was young, loads of number ones referenced misogynistic sex acts in the chorus... or not.

Unfinishedkitchen · 26/05/2019 07:43

Tune!

Deathgrip · 26/05/2019 07:43

For sure Eminem’s lyrics were disgusting. They were pretty heavily censored for the radio though - are radios censoring the line about facials in this case? I’d rather my kids heard swear words, to be honest.

Legoroses · 26/05/2019 07:44

Hilarious. So as long as misogyny is well established in pop, it's OK? Brilliant.

I have to turn it off, it makes me so cross.

Deathgrip · 26/05/2019 07:44

Sorry, I meant some of!Eminem’s lyrics were disgusting, obviously.

megletthesecond · 26/05/2019 07:46

Eminem still sounds pretty misogynistic, they have to edit so much when he's on the radio. I can't believe what he got away with. I still using along though.

I blame 2 Live Crew .

This is so far from true!

megletthesecond · 26/05/2019 07:48

sing along.
Not in front of the dc's obviously.

ElspethFlashman · 26/05/2019 07:48

No the facial line is definitely not censored. Every time it comes on the radio I make this face Hmm.

God its a boring song though.

TheAngryLlama · 26/05/2019 08:00

It’s shit. If it were by anyone else it would have sunk without trace. Shame, he seemed to be quite talented at first.

MustardBastard · 26/05/2019 08:01

Stormzy = overrated, boring, I just don't see what the big deal is. In fact I think he's shite.
