I've recently started OLD and noticed a few recurring funny things:

  • men posing with fish (why?)
  • "looking for a woman who respects herself " (aka never speaks to other men and wouldn't dare wear a low cut top)
  • fun luvin' guy lkn 4 mre thn jst a 1 nyt stand

It's a minefield!

Anyone else got any?

I never understand the fish!

ghostyslovesheets · 08/05/2019 17:52

the cars - endless pics of middle aged men stood next to fast shit cars that they don't own

Airfixed · 08/05/2019 17:54

I've never OLD but I'm considering it. I've heard Hinge app is good. I have a relatively high profile on social media because of my work and I often wonder if that's an issue. How easy would it be for someone to see me on OLD and follow a trail to SoMe?

thelist · 08/05/2019 17:56

My boyfriend I met OLD had a terrible photo of him with a car, honestly a miracle I ever replied 😂

Saying they aren’t interested in single mums because they don’t want to be instant dad, just add cash. Saw that a lot, I don’t have kids but thought that was awful.

@Airfixed I had numerous people add me on Facebook or message me on there when I was OLD but that is because my name is quite unique and I was probably one of the only people on Facebook with that name. Was a bit freaky because it was even people I hadn't matched with Hmm

The man crouching next to a headstone accompanied by a small boy and a spar carrier bag. The grave would appear to be that of his departed wife.......

bellaellie · 08/05/2019 18:10

@jayho

Don't see how that's funny

That's really sad. Poor bloke.

Yes that's my concern. I have an unusual surname, and if I google my name a whole stream of work related stuff comes up. It's OK, it's necessary for the work I do - but I would feel exposed OLD. Having said that - the professional exposure hasn't exactly helped me find dates so what am I worried about!

jayho · 08/05/2019 18:54

It wasn't funny, it was quite shocking tbh. He'd put it on tinder as his profile picture

isseywithcats · 08/05/2019 18:57

when i was OLD a guy on POF wasnt him so much but he had taken the picture in his kitchen and it looked like something from the hoarders programs, his surfaces were covered in washing up, food containers dirty pans A im not going to clean up for him and B if his kitchen was that bad what would the rest of his house be like

MintyCedric · 08/05/2019 19:01

I've recently subscribed to a well known OLD site.

One guy claiming to be 39 that looks a dead ringer for my dad - he's 82.

The ones that actually specify a weight range for the prospective women they are hoping to meet...WTAF?!

Lots of absolutely terrible photos.

And I've had a few messages, which have been even worse that the profiles tbh.

Still in my 14 day cooling off period and very likely to use the opt out button tbh.

lexi873 · 08/05/2019 19:02

The up-nostril selfies... it’s really not a flattering angle on anyone!

WinterBerry7 · 08/05/2019 19:04

Not funny I suppose but things I can’t stand.

‘No psycho or crazy women please!’
And
‘Must love banter’

Hmm
MintyCedric · 08/05/2019 19:04

Oh, I also had a guy come into my workplace today convinced he recognised me from somewhere.

I didn't recognise him, so checked his name in the signing in book...no clue, so can only assume it might be from the website. Made me feel really uncomfortable tbh.

Have also seen loads of guys I vaguely know/recognise (sadly none I'd be interested in). One of them turned up at my place of work a couple to months ago to give a talk on alcohol addiction...not sure of the context Confused.

Profile photo of a man in his living room with his wall covered in pictures of topless page 3 girls

SteveTheSpiderPlant · 08/05/2019 19:08

Group shot as the profile picture. How are you supposed to know which one they are. Not funny just annoying.

Mimithemouse · 08/05/2019 19:09

One man's Pof username was an*lbaby and had photos of his young daughter on the profile

Nolagerformethanks · 08/05/2019 19:10

It was actually in the paper but 'must have own hair and teeth' was a particular favourite of mine Grin

MintyCedric · 08/05/2019 19:17

Mimi I came across a PawkSawd the other week Shock

PorterBella · 08/05/2019 19:20

One 65 yr old has a pic of himself naked, pants down to just before his penis comes in to view... and I thought they grew out of that kind of thing. Confused

Mimithemouse · 08/05/2019 19:20

Minty- but it was the photos of his daughter, was so inappropriate?

GrowThroughWhatYouGoThrough · 08/05/2019 19:24

What my friend found whilst online dating 😂

HelenaDove · 08/05/2019 19:28

Grow what that says to me is that he really wants a sex worker but is too cheap to pay for one.

GrowThroughWhatYouGoThrough · 08/05/2019 19:33

I was just a bit like wtf!! I've never done online dating before but some of the stuff she sends me I'm just like WOW WTF
