It's not like you all have not been wondering

OP posts:
Polarbearflavour · 08/05/2019 20:24

I always wondered if Zara minded not being a princess or lady like her cousins! Mum is a princess and she is in the line of succession - but no title!

LaurieMarlow · 08/05/2019 20:25

Ok so if savannah slipped under your radar then 😂

Or Isla for that matter.

Parker231 · 08/05/2019 20:25

The Queens great grandchildren - Savannah, Isla, George, Mia, Charlotte, Louis, Lena and Archie. Good mixture for 2019.

HBStowe · 08/05/2019 20:25

I think this thread proves that, in general, people in Scotland are less likely to be sneery, class-obsessed, wannabe-posh arseholes than our southern neighbours Grin

DaveCoachesgavemetheclap · 08/05/2019 20:30

Shit name.

FannyWork · 08/05/2019 20:31

I’m really shocked they’ve used Prince George’s family nickname. That’s really overstepping the mark and seems like it’s calculated to cause upset. Especially as the Royal family frequently use different names in private.

LaurieMarlow · 08/05/2019 20:34

I’m really shocked they’ve used Prince George’s family nickname.

Say what now?

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 08/05/2019 20:34

😂 HBStowe

Theyellowsquare · 08/05/2019 20:35

Do none of you watch The Crown Shock

"It was therefore declared in the Privy Council that The Queen's descendants, other than those with the style of Royal Highness and the title of Prince/Princess, or female descendants who marry, would carry the name of Mountbatten-Windsor".

So that Philip didn't feel like an amoeba Wink

fc301 · 08/05/2019 20:37

Re the surname the whole family would have been Mountbatten when the queen married. But Philips ambitious uncle (Earl Mountbatten) got above himself about it, had M-W embroidered on his tie & in his carpet. Caused an uproar.
Queen settled on keeping Windsor (her beloved fathers name). Philip was deeply hurt so the compromise is those not in the direct line of succession are M-W.

Can't believe the vileness on here ... but then I do have a DS named Archie 🤣

Flamingosnbears · 08/05/2019 20:38

FWIW it's a great choice. I doubt PG actually uses that as a nickname he may have even heard is aunt and uncle suggest it as a contender... In line with 2019, breaks the royal tradition, shunned a title as he'll be known as Master and got a lovely tie to his Pa with Harrison.

maddiemookins16mum · 08/05/2019 20:38

Archie yes, Harrison !! not what I expected, but who cares what I think. Cute baby.

dementedma · 08/05/2019 20:39

HBStowe my job involves me working with the Scottish upper classes and aristocracy. Believe me, they are as class conscious and sneery as their southern counterparts!! Perhaps more so as in a small country, they are all inter-married!!

Stopandlook · 08/05/2019 20:41

Cute baby and proud parents.

I’m a republican

FannyWork · 08/05/2019 20:45

Apparently Prince George is known in the family as Archie.

LaurieMarlow · 08/05/2019 20:49

Never heard that in my life

yolofish · 08/05/2019 20:51

IMO that is just about the dullest name they could have chosen... 20 gazillion Archies over the last two decades; Harrison is meh.

Its not Royal and nor is it 'out there'. Meghan and Harry both looked glowing though and little AHM-W looks like... a baby.

The80sweregreat · 08/05/2019 20:51

Go Scots! That's what I say. They say bollocks to the snobs.

FannyWork · 08/05/2019 20:52

It’s apparently quite common that if a royal wants to give their child a name that isn’t deemed suitable for a royal they register it as something royal (like George) but within the family use the preferred name (eg Archie). Edward VIII was called David for similar reasons.

Basically it’s pretty much giving him the same name as his cousin.

FannyWork · 08/05/2019 20:53

It’s being reported in the press Laurie.

JacquesHammer · 08/05/2019 20:54

Edward VIII was called David for similar reasons

David was one of his given names.

The80sweregreat · 08/05/2019 20:57

Maybe they didn't realise that George's nickname is Archie? They all don't live together do they? They probably have t seen each other in a while? They have busy lives etc etc? Who knows?

LaurieMarlow · 08/05/2019 20:59

it’s being reported in the press Laurie.

What’s being reported is that he told a dog walker his name was Archie. Which could be anything, including him hearing discussions about the new baby’s name.

mathanxiety · 08/05/2019 20:59

Agree about Savannah.

managedmis · 08/05/2019 21:00

Not sure why people are saying it flows

Confused

It does not flow at all
