It's not like you all have not been wondering

OP posts:
managedmis · 08/05/2019 21:02

Yes, but savannahs mother is Canadian, so it's fine

As you were

OVienna · 08/05/2019 21:03

I love how they're supposedly eschewing a title for him- Prince Henry seemed quite happy to take on a new one this time last year. Wink Let the poor bairn be Lord! Honestly - as if using Master is a great social experiment in equality in this context???

Could George really be known as Archie?

DotForShort · 08/05/2019 21:03

In the UK, Archie was ranked at number 18 in popularity in 2017. Harrison was 34.

In the US, Archie was not in the top 500 for 2017. Harrison was 113.

Clearly, these names are both quite popular in the UK. They are not (shock horror!) American. Frankly, I was idly hoping for a name that might reflect the baby's half-American heritage. But these names are about as British as they come and very much in line with current British naming trends. Most importantly, these are the names that the parents liked and chose for their baby.

But that isn't enough for some people. No matter what Meghan does, she's in the wrong. Harry too, to a lesser extent, since he had the gall to marry her. And Meghan is clearly the target of most of the sneering and sniping. I wonder why. (No prizes for guessing.)

HBStowe · 08/05/2019 21:07

Perhaps more so as in a small country, they are all inter-married!!

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Bang on - 5 million of us and we’re all married to our cousins.

Re Prince George being called Archie - there doesn’t seem to be any suggestion of this beyond a story that Prince George once introduced himself to a dog walker he once met as Archie. Doubt it’s an actual nickname - why would his parents call him one normal name, and then actually refer to him as an entirely different name? I expect it was just PG saying a random thing, as kids are inclined to do.

mathanxiety · 08/05/2019 21:09

Harrison is pretty American.

It's a name DD1 was considering for a hypothetical firstborn son a few years ago. There was no candidate for father to said imaginary baby at that time and her current BF has a heritage and surname to go with it that would make Harrison as a given name look preposterous, so maybe we have all dodged that particular bullet.

mathanxiety · 08/05/2019 21:12

I think it is probably true that George is known as Archie, though maybe for security purposes. As random things children say go, this statement is actually pretty specific.

It may well be that he has been instructed to say to people who say, 'Hey, aren't you Prince George?' that his name is actually Archie, and he completely blew his cover.

MyBlueMoonbeam · 08/05/2019 21:13

It's naf but no more so than anything else about those two 🤢

Magi84 · 08/05/2019 21:17

As far as people wondering "why Mountbatten-Windsor it is the present Royal family's surname. George V changed the family name from Saxe-Coburg Gotha (Prince Albert's name which of course became the family name for all Queen Victoria's children and descendants). However during WW1 the King changed it as being too German and chose Windsor. He also decreed the Battenberg name be changed to Mountbatten. One of Queen V's grandchildren was married to Prince Louis Battenberg. That grandchild was Prince PHILIP's grandmother hence he took the name Mountbatten.

Quite a time into her reign the Queen decided that her children and descendants should at least have her husband's name somewhere in there and decided on Mountbatten-Windsor and since then that has been the family name!

MissEliza · 08/05/2019 21:18

Do none of you watch the Crown I love how the Crown is now routinely referenced for these matters as if it was a documentary! Btw I've done it plenty myself which being a history graduate I feel a bit stupid about! (I swear when I studied British politics of the 1950s her maj wasn't mentioned once)

derxa · 08/05/2019 21:20

Archie is quite posh in Scotland - upper middle at least - along with Hamish, Angus, Ruiaridh etc The English MNetters aren't listening dementedma It's chavvy apparently. Hmm

Notwiththeseknees · 08/05/2019 21:20

When he's a bit older & toddling about, his manny will be calling "Masterarchie Masterarchie" it sounds like a dance Grin

CarolDanvers · 08/05/2019 21:23

Maybe Megan doesn’t want a title for her son given the vicious response she’s had from the British tabloids and vast swathes of the British public. Maybe she knows his time will come to be vilified and she doesn’t want people who despise her so much and perhaps him in the future, having any sense of ownership over him because he’s titled? I think that’s how I would feel. She’s hardly been welcomed with open arms.

greenlloon · 08/05/2019 21:25

And Meghan is clearly the target of most of the sneering and sniping. I wonder why. (No prizes for guessing.) her half a billion dollar babshower?

the fact all her friends seem to be ones she didnt know only a few years ago and that she only had 1 family member at her wedding the way harry made her sound like an orphan in that interview etc etc etc

RuffleCrow · 08/05/2019 21:25

It's a lovely name. Apart from the Mountbatten-Windsor bit it's a name that will allow him to be vaguely normal. Much as Harry is a reasonably normal name (even if it wasn't the one on his birth certificate)

I guess that's what they were going for: friendly, approachable, normal.

Thankgoodness1 · 08/05/2019 21:27

Archie? Very disappointing.Sad

Clawdy · 08/05/2019 21:31

Can't believe people are thinking George would be nicknamed Archie. As if Harry wouldn't know that, even if it was true. Just another silly way to attack the couple. Sad.

littlebillie · 08/05/2019 21:32

Harrison - son of Harry. We have a Victorian grandfather called Harrison . Not that usual

NoTheresa · 08/05/2019 21:32

Archie is a great name. Best Royal name for ages.

TheDarkPassenger · 08/05/2019 21:34

I like the name Archie, my friend has an Archie. I’d be the one signing the birth certificate as Archibald though, my kids and my entire family all have ‘sunday’ names, but that’s me.

I do not like the Mountbatten-Windsor but I guess they couldn’t chose that. I would slowly drop the Mountbatten bit before school 😂 but then again I am not a beautiful goddess married to a fucking prince so I guess it’s got fuck all to do with me! Grin

greenlloon · 08/05/2019 21:35

DotForShort · 08/05/2019 21:35

greenlloon, no. But thank you for playing.

Cherrysherbet · 08/05/2019 21:35

Lovely name. I wish them well.

NoTheresa · 08/05/2019 21:35

Is William “normal” or does it have to have a random full stop in to get into that category!? (Willi.am stylee)

quizqueen · 08/05/2019 21:35

dreadful name

Eateneasterchocsalready · 08/05/2019 21:36

I don't like the phrase chavy at all but unfortunately that's the only word that flooded my mind.

However... I can hear her soft American tones talking about arch and George ( Clooney) Etc...

Rather than Uber posh... Archie...

The spiv..
