To put mint sauce on my roast chicken dinner

AIBU as I dislike lamb so otherwise would not get the pure delight of eating it on a roast. I also eat it with all the bits of a roast - potatoes, Yorkshire, veg and stuffing Grin

My family think I am a revolting heathen

Yes, why not. I like mustard with my chicken.

Treaclepie19 · 05/05/2019 18:42

Nope! Love mint sauce and rarely eat meat so on the veggies it goes 😁

bumtickler · 05/05/2019 18:43

mmmm mint sauce with any gravy dinner!

try adding mint sauce to the gravy jug.....lush

PinkHeart5914 · 05/05/2019 18:43

Doesn’t it overpower the taste of chicken? Chicken is a much lighter taste than lamb.

Who doesn’t like lamb, it’s heaven

kaitlinktm · 05/05/2019 18:44

My son has mint sauce with any roast dinner. I like it with any red meat but perhaps not chicken.

The carveries near us, none of which serve lamb (too expensive I suppose) all offer mint sauce along with the gravies, bread sauce, horseradish sauce etc - lots of people just have a bit of everything.

mclady · 05/05/2019 18:44

I have mustard with chicken and mint sauce with sausage and mash 😋

BlueMerchant · 05/05/2019 18:44

Agree with pp.Mint sauce belongs on any roast.

PookieDo · 05/05/2019 18:44

My DC would kill me dead if I put it in the gravy. The jar is just for meeeee

I find lamb fatty and it smells horrible when it’s cooking and then I don’t want to eat it!

@mclady
I had not thought of having that!
I will now
The minty-er the better I say

I like gravy with battered fish, not sure about mint sauce and chicken personally but it you like it why not?

OldAndWornOut · 05/05/2019 18:48

I can't help feeling a slight frisson of unease at the idea of mint sauce with chicken.

ImTheRealHFella · 05/05/2019 18:48

It's lovely.

Go for it.

No, it doesn't go in that way with chicken. But soften 2/3 oz butter in a pan with crushed garlic, sea salt and black pepper and then add a large handful of chopped mint and chopped parsley and pour over a platter of carved chicken. Serve with asparagus and crisply roasted new potatoes and it is delish.

MrsTerryPratchett · 05/05/2019 18:50

The job of the mint sauce with lamb (like vinegar with a fish supper) is to 'cut' the fat. The acid and the fat interact making the fat more digestible and palatable. Chicken isn't fatty like lamb therefore you are wrong.

I do not like horseradish at all Envy (not envy)

It does kill the taste of chicken a bit but mine was more herbs than any bigger flavour and then I just over power it all with a ton of mint which everyone in my family thinks is horrible

Lamb: mint sauce, redcurrant jelly, leeks in garlic sauce, rich gravy with a dash of red wine.

Beef, yorkshires, horseradish, rich redy winey gravy.

Pork: apple sauce, cider gravy.

Chicken: stuffing, bread sauce, cranberry, white wine gravy, bit of thyme.

Turkey: as for chicken but add cocktail sausages and bacon.

It is the law and it is not negotiable.

OldAndWornOut · 05/05/2019 19:02

Oh I love a bit of cranberry.
Only with chicken, obviously. Smile

ahtellthee · 05/05/2019 19:03

I eat mint sauce with everything 🐽 esp potatoes and gravy

OldAndWornOut · 05/05/2019 19:05

I have Yorkshire pud with chicken.

isseywithcats · 05/05/2019 19:06

why not i like mint sauce on cheese sandwiches and my friend thinks i have weird taste buds

riverislands · 05/05/2019 19:06

My vote is horseradish on all roasts. I use the usual hard. But the best horseradish ever is the one made in Romania, which uses cream or sour cream as its base.

ScreamingValenta · 05/05/2019 19:08

I like apple sauce with chicken.

My sister's DP has mint sauce on everything. I had them round for Christmas dinner once (roast goose) and was asked if I had any mint sauce - fortunately I did.

TheQueef · 05/05/2019 19:08

Jersey Royals are new now so I can't see how not to have mint sauce.

WhoAteMyNuts · 05/05/2019 19:10

Mint sauce on mash is great whatever the meat is Grin
