To ask you to make my hideous tiles less hideous?

Ok, moving house and need to pick a vinyl floor to counteract the awful brand new tiles in the bathroom. Don’t think can add any colour in to not make it look like a bachelor pad?
Obviously NC as quite, er, distinctive.

I'd just get pale grey - like one of these?

AbsolCatly · 28/04/2019 15:59

Chose a neutral vinyl - maybe a wood effect one(?)

Paint a soft colour of you choice on the walls and have toned towels / mat / blind etc - add a plant to the window sill and you won't notice the tiles as much

Personally I would go with a fuchsia pink for accessories - but that's one of my favourite colours Smile

OhTheTiles · 28/04/2019 15:59

Would just plain make it look worse/colder? But say a dark slate tile look better?

Ideally I like the white subway tiles and industrial/vintage or Victorian/morrocan type tiles. Quite a range!

Another pattern would clash though. The orange might work? Or an orange rug. I wouldn't spend much as you can put savings towards changing tiles.

BuzzPeakWankBobbly · 28/04/2019 16:14

Whatever you do, don't got for an Africa-inspired theme or you'll turn those tiles to Zebras in seconds.

thanksamillion · 28/04/2019 16:16

Have you thought about covering them with tile stickers (also known as decals). They're very easy to do and look ok. I'd never heard of them until a friend did her kitchen and they looked amazing!

m00rfarm · 28/04/2019 16:36

I quite like the tiles.

mondaylisasmile · 28/04/2019 16:46

Those tiles are awful

Tbh plain dark flooring is the only thing that's going to work to tone it down

Wood effect - too many clashing materials
Another pattern - too much on the eye

I'd stick down a soft grey floor of some kind, and probably not tiles so that it's warmed up visually. A good quality, well fitted vinyl is probably your best bet.

Whoever chose them for that space should be shot though! Looks really blokey.

TheWernethWife · 28/04/2019 16:48

Don't cover them up FGS, team them with a plain tile, maybe grey, and then buy lovely colourful towels and accessories.

isabellerossignol · 28/04/2019 16:51

Could you tolerate a brightly coloured floor? Plain orange or pink or something?

I know it's not to everyone's taste but it could really de-bachelor pad it.

OhTheTiles · 28/04/2019 16:57

See I thought a bright orange colour would make it more bachelor pad. They are textured so they won’t take tile stickers. Agree another pattern on the floor is too much.
Ha, at making it zebra.
Anyway to make it look more grown up and less bachelor pad? Maybe they look better when you love there. Or just one wall of the tiles would have been fine.

I'd either go white or light grey, and then brighten it up with towels and accessories. Or go all out and do a bright colour floor in cerise or teal.

bsc · 28/04/2019 17:10

I think orange would be more "Lion King"...
Perhaps stick to something wood/bamboo for the flooring? When on the walls?

OhTheTiles · 28/04/2019 17:11

😂 Lion King

I just need it to not look like it should be furnished with glitter accessories!

Ohyesiam · 28/04/2019 17:13

Paint them. It worked for me.

BuzzPeakWankBobbly · 28/04/2019 17:15

Yes, you can paint them, and with the texture, it'll actually be easier than if they were flat and you were trying to avoid brush strokes showing.

I'd go with plain white. It'll flatten out the weird lines and then you can distract the eye with whatever you do on the upper walls and/or floor.

BalloonSlayer · 28/04/2019 17:15

I quite like them actually (and I don't like animal print but they are not animal print.)

May I ask please, is that a panel of unfrosted glass under the frosted part of the window over the sink?

I am imagining you flashing your knockers whilst brushing your teeth all against the background of zebra tiles.

moreismore · 28/04/2019 17:16

Dark floor, some nice toiletries and a good quality fake orchid or similar. We had not dissimilar brand new tiles when we moved and I hate them a lot less now!

mysteryfairy · 28/04/2019 17:17

inoffensive grey rubber

Won’t make matters any worse at least

thefuriousfuggler · 28/04/2019 17:18

I think they are lovely..........but if you hate it then just go completely OTT maybe with this? www.harveymaria.com/Floor-Range/Pacific-Water

thymeandplaice · 28/04/2019 17:18

I actually reckon it might work with something like this tile effect vinyl. Then I’d go dark green on the walls.

thymeandplaice · 28/04/2019 17:20

Hmmm. Picture fail? It was there when I previewed post!

thymeandplaice · 28/04/2019 17:20

Now I see it. Sorry!

Miscella · 28/04/2019 17:24

If you pair those tiles with grey or black it will only enhance the bachelor pad look. I agree with thymeandplaice- I think that a black and white tile print floor would look good. Then you can pick a colour for the walls and get the same colour towels. You’ve got to work with what you’ve got!
