To ask you to make my hideous tiles less hideous?

Ok, moving house and need to pick a vinyl floor to counteract the awful brand new tiles in the bathroom. Don’t think can add any colour in to not make it look like a bachelor pad?
Obviously NC as quite, er, distinctive.

I would go for a plain white tile floor to balance out the tiles

Mosaic123 · 28/04/2019 17:29

A few suggestions:

Plain white floor with the biggest tiles you can find ?

Or a piece of white vinyl and fairly cheap.

When you can afford it you could remove the tiles from all but the shower area and tile the rest in plain white or grey?

KooMoo · 28/04/2019 17:43

I’d take them off! Start again.

FadedRed · 28/04/2019 17:52

Plain or textured white or pale grey floor, same colour tile paint to walls but leave the interior of the shower as it is. Match the window blind to the walls/floor if you have. Then towels/rug and accessories in any feature colour you like, i’d have a dark aqua or turquoise, or pale grey.

OhTheTiles · 28/04/2019 17:55

@thymeandplaice
I really like that pattern, but didn’t think I could get away with it? I really don’t want it to look like I’m a failed pop star from the 90’s.
@Balloonslayer hmm, I don’t know but it certainly looks like it’s not frosted on the bottom panel!

Silver glitter floor, aqua and bright pink towels etc.

kaytee87 · 28/04/2019 18:01

I'd get a plain, light grey floor and paint the walls bright orange.

OhTheTiles · 28/04/2019 18:09

No to glitter/bright pink/aqua/orange.

My ideal would be white subway tiles and navy walls!

Thinking more along the idea of a retro patterned floor. Like this?

I have tiles like that in my bathrooms but the other tiles are plain. I don't think I'd pair them with another pattern

thymeandplaice · 28/04/2019 18:23

Yes I think it will work and draw the eye more to the floor than the tiles. But I’d go more for the style on the left than the right. The different tile look is probably a bit too busy.

thymeandplaice · 28/04/2019 18:29

Don’t be afraid of mixing patterns. It can work quite well if the scale and colours are right.

foreverhomefornow · 28/04/2019 18:44

I think just a pale grey floor would be fine and nice towels and accessories in white/grey

Hang a towel rail with a big white towel on it to cover them up?!!

picklemepopcorn · 28/04/2019 18:51

Pebble vinyl is nice.

I think mustard yellow would look lovely. Other than that I think plain white might have to do. Good luck!

mellicauli · 28/04/2019 19:49

I would either go white and use plants and mirrors to save the room.
Or black and paint the walls black and embrace the whole dark thing..

MacavityTheDentistsCat · 28/04/2019 20:04

I'd go for a dark floor with a pale mat and then paint the walls apple green.

Saavhi · 28/04/2019 20:12

I would get neutral grey tiles but soften it with fancy accessories.

GiBlues · 28/04/2019 20:14

The mustard yellow idea might be the way to go, obviously toned done from these pictures but you get the idea 💡

I'd paint them. I've had good results painting tiles previously - the trick is to use a foam roller rather than a brush, because you get a better finish. But as your tiles are textured you could use a brush anyway.

BellMcEnd · 28/04/2019 20:26

They wouldn’t be my first choice of tiles but I do think that once you’ve tarted the bathroom up with a nice plant, towels, toiletries etc they won’t look so obvious. As far as floor tiles go what about something like these then paint the walls in a warm contrasting colour?

azulmariposa · 28/04/2019 20:28

Don't get a dark slate. It's a bugger to keep clean as every bit of dust and fluff and water marks.
I'd get a lighter colour, possibly a very pale grey or white.

MagicKingdomDizzy · 28/04/2019 20:31

Tile paint is your friend here! Paint them a plain colour and you could regrout in a different colour too.

Summersunsareglowing · 28/04/2019 20:33

I think that retro patterned floor with those wall tiles will definitely make it look less like a bachelor pad. However, they will also make it look a lot worse than it already is. The wall tiles are truly awful.

The best suggestion so far is GiBlues mustard suggestion.

MumW · 28/04/2019 20:33

It looks very stark and bare at the moment but just putting your wash things in will tone it down but I'd say vinyl, blind, paint and towels that match/co-ordinate. Probably stick with a plain with shades of the same colour. With black and white you can add any colour you like.

Maybe a pot plant on the side or some accessories on the wall.
