To ask you to make my hideous tiles less hideous?

Ok, moving house and need to pick a vinyl floor to counteract the awful brand new tiles in the bathroom. Don’t think can add any colour in to not make it look like a bachelor pad?
Obviously NC as quite, er, distinctive.

Primrose yellow walls. Very light grey flooring, probably plank effect vinyl or actual laminate. Bright towels. Bright pedestal & bath/shower mat.

Unicornshopkeeper · 28/04/2019 21:01

I don't hate them either. But I do prefer the tiles you've described as actually liking more

Unicornshopkeeper · 28/04/2019 21:03

I'd go large white floor tiles I think as suggested upthread

CoraCoo · 28/04/2019 21:07

I would have to cover them somehow if I couldn't remove them. I have a mug the same as those tiles and it gives me a headache looking at it!

WhataLovelyPear · 28/04/2019 21:14

I'd go for a dark floor - it will give you an ombre effect as you have pale walls above the tiles. Then I'd had luxurious accessories in mustard, eg. thick bathmat and towels, a big bar of yellow soap, and a plant on the windowsill. Not sure what type of plant though - I'm no good with plants.

EgremontRusset · 28/04/2019 21:15

We have F&B ‘calamine’ on the walls in a grey-tiled and angular bathroom. It really softens it. It’s a slightly grey-based pale pink so it’s not sugary at all.

WhataLovelyPear · 28/04/2019 21:16

Forgot to say, the tiles are not awful. At least they aren't beige floral from the seventies which was my first thought from your title!

Bluntness100 · 28/04/2019 21:22

I think you have to go with it. Don't put another pattern in, so plain flooring, and pick one of the colours in the tiles. Then paint the paint work, a colour in the tiles, likely the paler grey and try and tie the whole thing together.

Cryalot2 · 28/04/2019 21:39

Paint a nice grey all over .

mineofuselessinformation · 28/04/2019 21:47

I'm voting dark grey floor tiles. It will tone all of it down.

Miscella · 28/04/2019 21:51

You can definitely mix patterns as long as you keep the same colour palette - easy in your case - and get the scale right.

Making the floor plain is just going to make your tiles stand out more.....and it really sounds like you don’t want that. Adding a pattern will create contrast and depth to the room so the current tiles won’t look so stark. Add a colour on the walls and with towels and those tiles will look completely different - in a good way!

OhTheTiles · 28/04/2019 22:56

Okay, I have to admit it. The idiot that picked the tiles was me! It’s a new build, and after 5hours of paperwork/decisions I didn’t care and we only got to see a single tile on its own which looked awesome and thought it was just the shower cubicle that was tiled and not the whole bathroom. Whoops. Big whoops.

Still not seen it yet, just been sent the photo before we move in.

Mid to light tone grey floor. Accessorise with green towels, gold decorative items and a nice plant.

BrightlightsSmallvillage · 28/04/2019 23:28

If it were me, I think I would embrace the dark. I think your idea of dark slate floor is good & would paint the walls a dark grey too. It's the piano effect of dark tiles & white walls that I'm not a fan of.

RockinHippy · 28/04/2019 23:44

I'd suggest black slate floor tiles or some sort of industrial looking black rubber flooring. A mid Khaki/olive green, or teal on the walls & maybe dress with mix of charcoal grey & contrast bright coloured towels. Or maybe a zebra print

StoneofDestiny · 29/04/2019 17:35

I'd go for white - then have loud pop of colour in blind/towels/framed prints.

Stifledlife · 29/04/2019 18:04

Dark grey, plain floor. White walls. Red towels and mat.

Dixiechickonhols · 29/04/2019 18:23

Tile paint and choose the floor you want.

MargotLovedTom1 · 29/04/2019 18:48

Ugh I wouldn't have white floor tiles in a bathroom - every rogue pube on the floor will stand out a mile!

I'd go for a dark floor and have aubergine towels and bath mat etc. And definitely a plant.

Dogparty · 29/04/2019 18:53

I’d paint them with Tile paint.

GreenOliveOrBlackOlive · 29/04/2019 19:09

I like the orange or mustard suggestions-embrace it.

I’m a fine one to talk though. I made a bad tile choice in our kitchen that I just couldn’t live with. It lasted a year before it all had to go.

Pinotjo · 29/04/2019 19:20

White tiled floor with a grey bathroom rug, I like the tiles, look lovely

StoneofDestiny · 29/04/2019 19:52

Fuchsia pink towels or mustard towels etc - white floor, job done. Tiles aren’t vile at all 🥂

Thatsnotmyotter · 29/04/2019 19:57

I can see how one on its own probably looked fine but all together they make my eyes hurt a bit! Sorry OP, I’d probably paint them.

Seaweed42 · 29/04/2019 20:01

Don't get a white floor, it'll show every spec of dust. Go for darker if you don't want to be washing the floor every day.
