If you could go back and chose a career all over again, regardless of what qualifications you'd need or commitments you now have what would you chose? And could you still do it?

Midwife, wish I’d known what I wanted to do when I was younger.

BelulahBlanca · 20/04/2019 19:30

Imagineer at Disneyland.

IncognitaIgnorama · 20/04/2019 19:33

News journalist. Or barrister. No to both as too old now to go through the scratching round for work for years after the years of retraining. Grin

DharmaInitiativeLady · 20/04/2019 19:37

Owner of a nursery. I'd be a multi millionaire

catgirl1976 · 20/04/2019 19:37

Barrister. Keep toying with retraining bit I’m too old and tired 😂

scater · 20/04/2019 19:38

I start my pretty much dream job in a couple of months, it's in a charity (which is what I do) it's national and I'll have the chance to make such a difference. I'm v excited 😆

Grumpbum123 · 20/04/2019 19:39

Counsellor

TeaAddict235 · 20/04/2019 19:39

Marketing - the adverts would rock!

Banana770 · 20/04/2019 19:48

I’d have been an archivist and worked with old documents.

I am young enough to retrain but we have kids and a mortgage, my job is stable and mostly school hours, plus I think it would be quite hard to get a job without potentially moving! So I think that ship has sailed!

Chancewouldbeafinethlng · 20/04/2019 19:50

I’d love to be a coroner but have never felt clever enough.

skinnyamericano · 20/04/2019 19:51

Doctor. Didn’t have enough confidence in myself at the time, but wish I’d gone for it and worked my backside off to get there.

IchHabeDurst · 20/04/2019 19:51

A biologist or theatre assistant. Just something that helps others. I'm currently a designer and can't afford to retrain.

BuzzPeakWankBobbly · 20/04/2019 19:55

Judge.
I am frequently in awe of how they come to such thoughtful and well-constructed decisions in all manner of cases.

Or an archaeologist. That was my second career idea before I took the one I did, which is a million miles from it.

EnglishRose13 · 20/04/2019 19:58

Detective.

niceupthedanceagain · 20/04/2019 19:58

Psychologist. Or novelist.
I did retrain as a social worker after many years in an unrelated career. I'm planning on doing an MA in family therapy next. Then I'm going to give it all up and write books in a shed by the sea.

ElloBrian · 20/04/2019 19:59

I really wish I had studied art history. I’m not sure what career it would have led to because there’s quite a few possibilities (in fantasyland) but that would be my starting point. Maybe I’ll do it when I retire.

I would never want to be a barrister - one of my relatives is and I see how hard they work. The money isn’t great compared to the amount of work involved.

Coldilox · 20/04/2019 20:00

Clinical psychologist. I let people talk me out of a psychology degree in favour of a more traditional academic subject (which has been no use whatsoever, although I did enjoy it).

Can’t afford to retrain now.

ElloBrian · 20/04/2019 20:01

I also wish I had worked abroad at a younger age.

Beamur · 20/04/2019 20:01

I thought about teaching but got talked out of it (by a teacher) they were probably right, but I still think about it from time to time.

HoppityChicken · 20/04/2019 20:11

BuzzPeakWankBobbly - archaeologist for me too. Every so often I tell myself it's not too late. Maybe it's not...........

Till lady at Tesco!
Climbed the corporate ladder for years and I'm so done with it

Purplechanges · 20/04/2019 20:15

A singer! I did do it for a very short while (pubs/clubs/in a band) but never truly felt confident I was good enough to do it as a career. Just about to turn 40 and my love of singing has never left me. I truly regret not doing anything more with it. My confidence still isn't strong enough to do anything about it now but love hitting the karaoke when drunk and seeing faces drop Wink

dancemom · 20/04/2019 20:16

Lottery winner Wink

Hippopotas · 20/04/2019 20:18

Osteoarchaeologist and I couldn’t do it now. Very little job security would need a heavy biology background and I’m terrible now with being outdoors and dirty.

QueenoftheBiscuitTin · 20/04/2019 20:21

Biomedical engineer. Don't think I'm smart enough though.
